Just to use only the installer and therefore rule out any possible anomalies on the USB installer / during install, calling data from the USB. As I encountered serious issues that were not easily explained, troubleshooted and/or fixed, I choose to not the copy the OCLP application to the USB.

For me, it was the only way to go and execute the 7th clean installation sequence from scratch beginning to download and install the OCLP application and without the use of Migration Assistant.
It did not cause any issue for me but if that is how it worked for you, I'm also okay with that...

I'll be dual booting OCLP Ventura with and older macOS version... Might upgrade to Sonoma next week once OCLP 1.0 is released...

Hey all, for those working on OCLP, great job and thanks! I currently have Ventura (13.6) running on a 2012 - 15 MacBook Pro - 9,1. The install had some moments, but those were self-inflicted wounds that I eventually figured out. My install seems to be working smoothly.

In any case, I noticed something weird as I was setting up my laptop concerning the Notification Center not displaying text with/in some of the widgets. (ie. Calendar, Upcoming events)

I've known this is an an on going issue that in the scheme of things is not a high priority to fix (nice to have vs. need to have). But it does get pointed out from time to time in this forum.

So here's the weirdness I noticed post install while setting up my laptop:

Apparently if you fire up the Photos App to DL your photos from iCloud the missing text in the widgets mentioned above populates correctly and the missing text appears in the widget.

Screenshot 2023-09-27 at 9.17.18 AM.png

if you quit the Photos app, the text in question disappears:

Screenshot 2023-09-27 at 9.18.36 AM.png

What I've been able to piece together is that the widgets themselves reside in the Package Contents of the app itself.

That there has to be a shared resource that both Photos app and the Calendar and Upcoming Events widgets use?

Any feedback would be welcome. Anyone with more knowledge on this as well.

MBP11,1 (13", 2013): now on Ventura 13.6 on external SSD and on Monterey 12.7 on internal. Both using OCLP 0.6.8 for EFI, 13.6 also for post-install root patch which Monterey doesn't need for this machine.
Sonoma on external SSD to be used when next OCLP is released.
Working very well. Thank you, developers!

imac 14,3 finally upgraded to Ventura 13.06 using OCLP 0.6.8. i think this machine should be well supported as it has discrete Nvidia graphics. i had previously replaced the internal hard drive with a SanDisk SSD, which i also believe is not on any blacklist. this was an upgrade-in-place from catalina (maybe a bad idea?).

i guess there are a handful of patches that need to be done for this machine, and i did apply those. not sure what they really do though. i've built many hackintoshes before and OCLP is so turnkey i don't know what's happening behind the scenes...

despite the compatible hardware, i had one UI lockup with spinning pinwheels in successive applications after trying to move some large messages from my IMAP Inbox to a local disk. had to hard reboot. subsequently firefox's windows were becoming blank - just all one color after display wakeup. sometimes firefox would just crash while the display was asleep. i noticed some flickering down in the left bottom corner of the desktop. on this machine i don't let it sleep when the display blanks, because it runs some software that has to monitor stuff 24/7.

i noticed something strange in System Settings - the screensaver control panel has no icon next to it. for kicks, i went in and reconfigured the screen saver from the one that just prints a word and the apple, to the ventura screen saver. i also reconfigured the idle settings so that the screensaver would come on after a couple minutes, and then after another couple of minutes, the display would sleep. for some reason this seems to have cleared up the problem with firefox. in another thread i noted people talking about disabling the transparency effects in Accessibility, so i did that as well.

while things look OK, i'm left wondering if things are kind of unstable. shouldn't imac 14,3 be kind of a slam dunk? maybe my SSD is causing some problem? anyone else using this kind of machine with ventura?

I noticed that the light sensor doesn't work the same with Ventura as it does Monterey on my iMac. It works, but Monterey typically runs with a dimmer screen, while Ventura is brighter. Other than that, the OS runs smooth and reliably. Could be something with the nightly builds of OCLP I'm using. Will try when the next final release is out and revert the patches, then install them fresh to see if that behavior changes.

I discovered my issue has to do with the latest XCode/Command Line Tool version 15 install. The Linker (ld) is broken and requires additional flags -largs, -Wl, -ld, -ld_classic.

Still installing and testing my other (video) applications in my new macOS Ventura 13.6 clean installation.

- installed graphics card EVGA GTX-680-4GB-FTW flashed with Mac EFI. [florian]

Seems video graphics are glitching in Firefox latest build, my favorite browser.

- f1tv
- twitter
- youtube (search previews)
- ubiquiti login screen
-etc.
Screenshot 2023-09-28 at 09.53.26.png

F1TV in Firefox:

macOS 13.6 - FIREFOX.png

Checked with other browsers to compare:

F1TV in Chrome: no issues

F1TV in Safari: no issues

Is there a fix for this?

Does anyone know if there is a fix in the work for the HD4000 “pages app” issue in Ventura?
Not to my knowledge. The “issue” as I understand it is AVX2 instructions. Older CPU’s do not support AVX2. Apple updated their compiler around the same time 13.2 was released. So now some of their Apps and Libs that have been updated since 13.2 are compiling with AVX2 instructions.

The OCLP team is aware of the issue but I do not know if they can do anything about it.

It was here, or the Sonoma thread that someone reported that Netflix wasn't working on Safari. Just gave Netflix a try on 13.6, and Safari 17, on an iMac 17,1 with the Sept 26th build of Opencore installed with the associated Root Patches, and Netflix played in Safari. Disney+ does not, still get a message that something went wrong with code 83.

So, DRM in Safari, isn't completely broken, it's hit or miss.

iMac 11,1 only upgrade = 500GB SATA SSD + 12GB RAM. Stock GPU and WiFi/BT card.
OCLP Ventura 13.6

Only anomalies (both fixed) are
  • Drop down menu and finder side bar transparencies flash wrong color sometimes. Not too bothersome as they are quite faded colors. Easy fix is to turn down transparencies (turn on System Settings -> Accessibility -> Display -> Reduce Transparency)
  • BT function was lost after PRAM reset. Can recover with an OCLP EFI built on older macOS ( link )
  • WiFi worked with my Gen 6 Airport Extreme but not a ddwrt router. Had to use a USB wifi dongle solution with the ddwrt router.
Other than this, everything seems to function fine and similar UI performance as my 2015 MBP 13 on OCLP Ventura. Watching youtube in Safari and Brave, browsing in Brave, webcam all good.

Other than in Monterey Firewire is broken in Ventura and Sonoma.
1) Is there any workaround to make Firewire work ?
2) Could a Firewire-PCIe card be the solution (Mac Pro 3,1) ?
Thanks !

Fire Wire works on my supported Mac mini 2018 running Sonoma (51/56 MB/s read/write to an SSD connected with FireWire 800 with Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter).
The Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter uses a FireWire OHCI chip 11c1:5901 which is a FW643 [TrueFre] PCIe 1394b Controller.
What kind of FireWire device are you trying to connect? Are you able to test a FireWire mass storage device? Did you try FireWire 400 and 800 ports?
It could be that FireWire still works but not for some classes of devices? I think people are complaining about FireWire audio devices? I don't know how that could get fixed except to make your own driver.

Isn't that something OCLP could do? Have OpenCore inject the kext for you so you don't have to mess with SIP? I have not been following OCLP news.

I posted this question on the Sonoma thread and going to post it here, because I think there was some confusion as to what the question was. I posted it there because I'm using the open core nightly for ventura as well.
The question is: I installed VMware Fusion 13.0.2 on my Ventura drive. I have a professional license I am using Ventura 13.6, and the 28th of Sept nightly of build 0.6.9. I started up My Linux Minut VM and got to the login screen then when it logged into the desktop, the window went black. I've read previous posts about VMware and OCLP, but those were regarding windows. Is there a way to fix the VM video issue? The same VMs and version of Fusion work fine on Monterey, which is apple supported. iMac 17,1. I don't plan on using VMWare a lot in my testing period before making a final choice what to do after Monterey is out of support, because of disk space. However, I just wanted to see if they worked. The VM's start, I get to the login screen, can login but after that when desktop session starts, no video. However, the VM isn't crashed as I hear the cinnamon login sound, and the cursor is correct, but no wallpaper, no icons, or other desktop elements such as the task bar, and icons. So it's partially there, but not all of it.

It’s the same issue as windows guests, a problem with graphic acceleration.
Patched amd drivers in Ventura and Sonoma don’t support acceleration in VMWare fusion.
You can’t try to disable 3D acceleration in your VM settings. It works for windows guest, but you lose performance, transparency effects …

Is there an option to control the GPU directly with the Linux drivers directly, apart from installing Linux directly?
The other question is, will this be fixed in a future release of the patcher, or is this a limitation of macOS going forward?

you can control that in VMWare settings of you Linux guest (in graphics section).

As I am not an OCLP developer, I have no idea if it can be fixed or not. It's working on supported OS for supported Mac, but not with OCLP AMD patched drivers.

I know how to control the setting in VMware, I was just trying to get a feel for if it's worth bothering with a VM beyond Monterey, or just installing Linux directly as then Linux will have full access to the Mac's hardware, and running Linux is something that I want to do. I am just looking at my options based on these conversations going forward and making the choice based on that on how I want to run it.

Perhaps as a test to see how you feel about the Mint performance on the iMac, setup a USB Live install on a SSD in an external 3.0 drive to boot from and give it a whirl. Would give you an idea of whether you want to run it over the long term.

I've got a Mint install on a 2006 MacBook that I still fire up once in a while, and I've also run Mint on 2008 vintage MacBook Pro 4,1 systems. Driver support is good.

Off-topic reply to your post - I'll have to find the thread for this. I installed Anti-X on my old Intel Atom HP Netbook. It turned a piece of crap, unusable NetBook into a pleasant experience. Nice and responsive.

Thanks very much for that answer !
I do have multiple firewire audio interfaces which are needed in my studio.
I will try the reddit solution
and yes this would be something OLCP could implement - hopefully.

Tried the reddit solution and it works !
Tried it with Sonoma, it works though 14.0 is the slowest and most buggy one for me for the last several years.
The beta version was more snappy and ground level things like camera and mic permisson doesn´t work at all now.
Hopefully this will get better the next months.

Read multiple opinions here that Ventura has not many convincing features to upgrade from Monterey, but some said Sonoma is faster and the better Ventura. This is not what I can confirm now, but I have trust in the genius work of the OLCP devs. 👍

It really would help the rest of us on this public thread if you stated what m/c you're talking about. I'm sure you've mentioned it in a prior post. Do you expect us to search back through your posts? Ain't gonna happen.

Put it in your profile signature. Simple etiquette, either state it in every post you make, or put it in your signature once. Thank you.

I don´t expect you to do nothing ! Simple etiquette would be to use some etiquette words one learn very early ...
If I can help you with the same problem just ask nicely and don´t throw orders my way.
This ain´t gonna happen neither !
