Don't think I was blaming Ventura, but even if I was it's only silly if you already know what's been posted here about the various anomalies I've been experiencing - which I certainly didn't, but certainly appreciate knowing. (And BTW, Catalina Patcher, 10/15/7, formatted likewise APFS from HS, doesn't show any of these anomalies, but, and for whatever reason, it simply won't run Brave or any Chromium browser. Just crashes immediately. Looked all over the place, but haven't found any solution for this).

Since the minimum for Firefox and Brave is now 10.15.7, only reason I'm trying out Ventura is because Firefox will be deprecated by next Sept 2024, and already Brave, my secondary browser is down the drain in HS. Not nostalgic, but have zero interest in any of the new features, whatever they may be, since HS now - and before that, back to Snow Leopard and even earlier - suits my needs quite adequately.

In the meantime, unless it's another HS->Ventura anomaly, would very much appreciate it if anyone has a solution for the very thin Ventura menubar, hardly distinct from the Desktop background, with various items almost too small to read.

Have set it large in Accessibility, but that makes almost no difference.

Both Ventura and HS are using the same Desktop background.

menubar HS: (note, actually appears much thicker in the original).

Turn on Reduce transparency in Accessabilty and see if it helps.

@RK78 I was a bit confused with your statements regarding Firefox and Brave. I'm currently running Monterey on this iMac 17,1 which is the last official supported OS, and have the latest version of Firefox, are you saying Firefox support is going to end when Monterey ends, or are you specifically talking older versions of macOS pre-Big Sur.

No, see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-macos-1012-1013-1014-moving-to-extended-support this only applies to 10.13, 14 and earlier. Current users of Fx from HS are being made to use Firefox ESR until next year (my preference anyway, since I only have to deal with UI changes with lots of CSS modifications only once a year - a lot of once a year pain vs. relatively minor pain at each interim release).

@deeveedee: Not sure why a different screen saver will deal with this, but will give it a try - many thanks if it works...somehow.

@shafez: Your quote seems to be exclusively about the problem running Brave or any Chromium based browser on the Catalina Patcher; are you saying that reducing reducing transparency in Cat will deal with the Brave crashing issue? Or, more maybe more likely that reducing transparency (which I've already tried) will deal with the menubar issue in Ventura?

I admit that it's not intuitive. I accidentally discovered the fix (which works for me on my MBP6,2). I need to select one of the static Ventura screensavers to maximize visibility of the menu bar.

EDIT: Here's the screensaver I selected:

Also, as shafez indicated, I have reduce transparency enabled in my System Settings, but for me, this did not improve menu bar visibility.

@RK78 Thanks, I'm clear now. Yes I was on ESR when I was trying Mojave for a bit as a secondary install to see if I really needed 32-bit support. Anyway, using Monterey, so thanks for confirming what I thought this meant.

is there a way to disable the wifi icon in the menu bar ?
my 4,1 mac pro, does not have a wifi card installed...

I really hate the new system preference pane within MacOS, I really have to get used to it..

Flawless upgrade from 13.6 -> 13.6.1 on my MBP6,2 patched with OCLP 0.6.8.

EDIT: This doesn't happen every time for me, but occasionally Open Core chooses the wrong volume after a reboot during a macOS install. This seems to happen after I have pressed <Ctrl> <Enter> to select a default boot volume in Open Core boot-picker. During the macOS install, Open Core may choose my default Volume when it should choose the "macOS Installer" Volume.

During my upgrade (OTA) from 13.6 -> 13.6.1, OC did not automatically choose the "macOS Installer" and instead chose my default boot Volume. I manually selected "macOS Installer" to override OC's choice.

All three are also available on the Mr. Macintosh site.

FYI do not upgrade to 14.1 yet

It appears that the 14.1 update is causing kernel panics for some people; so (as always) please wait for further information before updating any machines you aren't prepared to break. (The exact problem, or existence of a problem, isn't known yet. Just a reminder!)
