Mail is not working properly for me in Beta5. It appears to be working, and does not crash, but I noticed that at some point after while new mail that I am sending or email that I am replying to do not actually get sent and do not show up in sent mail. When I try to close mail, it does not close and eventually requires a force quit. Once I force quit, then it will then start to load new messages that have come in since the bug started happening. I then need to recompose and send the new emails in question.
Working OK here - although I did notice it doing some maintenance the first time I ran it after updating.

Caveat as usual for backup in case of data loss but trying rebuilding your Envelope Index.

why would it be a bug? it's just the way apple has configured opening system settings..
Read your post quoted below just after posting mine.
Yes, it makes sense; perhaps it's the expected behaviour as you describe similar to how it opens to 'General' in iPadOS. Empty right-hand column won't look neat, I guess. iOS doesn't have two-pane view, thus defaulting to no particular option is fine.
yes, it does that. perhaps apple believes that that's what most people use the most? either way, easy enough to go to what you want. a small thing, but would be nice to be able to set a default of our own. am sure others here would prefer it start at wifi, or passwords, for example.

so, you're agreeing that it's just set up that way and not a bug? otherwise, not sure what you're getting at...

I am not hearing that but I am hearing it when I send an iMessage. It has a popping sound almost like a speaker is blown. Other sounds and audio seem ok. I assume it's not hardware related but sounds similar to your issue.
that's definetly it, it happens with other sounds too, but that was the best way I was able to replicate it. I believe it's not hardware either but I'm kinda worried

When opening the Settings app, does the "Appearance" section display by default for everyone? It just seems weird to me, since opening Settings app on iOS defaults to "General" instead - which seems a bit more intuitive.
Yeah, but I still prefer the old style Settings layout. I find this one less intuitive and harder to navigate.

I agree with xgman - I do not like the new format for System Settings. I simply do not think it is a proper OS worthy. It works on a Smar Device, but macOS is so past that... It looks childish, simplistic, and just generally too small for what it is.

i've tried nearly every option in osx and then mac os, but don't need most of it; i need my apps to work. when i'm done in, say, calendar, i 'command-h" it. i switch between apps with the app switcher (there's a redundant sentence!)

i think apple sometimes provides too many gimmicky things, and i imagine that most people never use most of those things (only forum ppl here and 4 guys at a tech site).

but i'd rather have things i don't use but could if i wanted, than not.

It's a bug/feature(?). I've filed a report but it'd be good if others did too.

Here's my report/fix/description:
Prior to Ventura, I have "Displays have separate Spaces" in Mission Control turned off because when I'm connected to multiple monitors, I don't want multiple menu bars in each screen.

When it's off, I can still cycle through windows in any application with multiple windows open, either via cmd-` (backtick), and/or, in Finder, via the Window > Cycle Through Windows menu.

But in Ventura, if it's off, I can't cycle through windows, period. The only way I can get window cycling functionality is to turn it on, which is not ideal/desirable.

Is anyone else having problems "detaching" tabs from a Safari window in PB3 (this worked fine previously)?

1. Go to any Safari window containing multiple tabs. This is reproducable with both "regular" windows and tab group windows.

2. Try to drag/detach a tab from the window. You'll see the mini-version of the tab being dragged, but once you release the mouse/trackpad button, instead of the tab "expanding" to its own window, it stays "miniaturized" in the location where you released the button.

Meanwhile, the original tab remains in place, but the new window never actually expands.
Even worse, the "ghost" tabs remain in front of all applications.

great find, and yes, that works. but it does seem like a bug; we should be able to, as always, switch thru open windows in any app with command `

anyway, reported it (twice). since i never use mission control, this is a good workaround, so thank u for that

There must be something new in the Mail code. When I updated to this beta, I would get a kernel panic every time I attempted to open an individual message. Took 3 restarts to make that stop.

Are you sure it's not the delayed-send feature which allows you to "un-send" a message for 10 seconds or so?

Same here since public beta 1.
Had performed a "Erase all contents and settings" while on public beta 2. A lot of other bugs disappeared, but this one persists.
There's definitely been changes. There's a new toggle in settings to disable the currently-rather-random "follow-up" feature, for example.

I've taken advantage of disabling that for the moment as it's definitely the buggiest bit of Ventura for me, and until you can remove the follow-up reminder I've decided not to mess with it.

Today, started getting crash/reboots when system is put to sleep and also with locked screen.
I just started having this issue with the latest beta.... did your's resolve or is it still doing it? Mine just started doing it...

I'm having tons of issues with apple id and id settings in this beta. That and notifications settings. I've had to reinstall from recover 3 times. What a mess.

i don't know if this has been mentioned by anyone else? i use messages on my mac a lot, but on the current beta, i cannot paste web addresses in (works on my iphone in ios 16). nothing pastes in the window. everything else (text, images) works. 'paste' is greyed out..

anyone?
Yes... same here..... argggghhhh.... I have latest public beta

First, I did not resolve it. Within a couple of days, my new Mac arrived so I have not yet loaded it with Ventura and retired my M1 Mini (for sale).

Is anyone else having issues with Time Machine?

TM worked perfectly for me from the 1st beta, but now (beta 5) fails to complete any backup. I have even started again with a new TM backup. And problem persists with backups to both USB disk and network connected Mac. My install is in VMware Fusion and that may be a contributing factor.

No, backups completing fine here. You could try Time Machine Mechanic to inspect the logs and see what's going on?
