Did you ever run Windows with your Mac Pro? Long story short, MP51.0087.B00 not having microcodes and Windows SecureBoot system makes havoc in the NVRAM part of the BootROM - a lot of Mac Pros bricked with this combo.

If you ever use Windows 10 with your Mac Pro while on MP51.0087.B00, additional steps are needed to repair the BootROM.
[doublepost=1555516314][/doublepost]No, I have never run Windows on any of my Macs. Ever! So, am I ok then? No repair needed?

Thanks

If you never used Windows, you are safe. The corruption is caused by Windows, not macOS.

Next week my Sapphire Pulse RX 580 arrives. Time to upgrade from High Sierra to Mojave. The only problem is, I can't do a clean install because the migration assistent is not compatible with Adobe CS6. And I can't reinstall this software in Mojave because the installer doesn't work in Mojave. In case it goes wrong, what can I do? If my computer hangs on booting, I consider a safe boot and running Etrecheck to find the incompatible extension that is the culprit.
Could this be a solution?
Are there many users here who experienced problems when they upgraded High Sierra to Mojave?

because the installer doesn't work in Mojave.
From my Adobe DVDs, I installed CS6 after upgrading to Mojave. I can verify that AE and PS work, along with Bridge. I believe others have said PP works - dunno about AI. I seem to remember that the installation wasn't smooth - I had to retry one or twice. That could have been media an/or SuperDrive. After all, mine is a 10-year old MP. But it works just fine.

I have upgraded my 4,1 MacPro to Mojave and it was running fine until the latest update to Mojave 10.14.4. My graphics card update is a RADEON RX 560.

Now, when unattended, and I think when attempting to sleep, the computer will crash. The crash log always contains the following the backtrace which I believe is a problem with the power controller.

Kernel Extensions in backtrace:

My boot ROM version is 138.0.0.0.0. I notice that 141.0.0.0.0 is what is mentioned in this thread. Could this be the problem? If so, how do I upgrade the boot ROM?

I updated my MacPro 5,1 with firmware 141.0.0.0.0 from High Sierra 10.13.6 to Mojave 10.14.4 a few days ago. My Samsung EVO 850 SSD installed in an OWC SATA PCI card was converted from HFS+ to APFS. After a few days I have disk problems.
When I ran disk utilty I got this message:
warning: inode_val: object (oid0X111a3) invalid internal-flags (a lot of these)
too many warnings generated: suppressing subsequent ones
I tried to repair in the recovery mode but was unable to unmount the startup SSD.
The I booted from another SSD under High Sierra and tried to repair with Disk Utility and Drive Genius.
But the warnings remained and I couldn't repair the disk.
Now, when I try to boot the Samsung SSD with Mojave, I get a white screen and nothing more.
What can I do to solve this problem?
TIA

This is a known issue with the OneDrive app from Microsoft... It has a bug in it. You need to remove all traces of the app for the inode and bsd error flags to disappear.

The errors are harmless so just ignore them. Not sure about the white screen problem though.

I suggest you open a new thread to see if other members can assist.

Sapphire is the manufacturer, Pulse is the model that you want to buy, AMD RX 580 is the GPU type. Apple do all the tests with this specific video card.

If you live in a country that have the real Sapphire Pulse RX 580, go for it. You will need a dual mini 6-pin to 8-pin cable to power the GPU. Like this one: 18AWG Dual mini 6Pin male to 8Pin male PCI-E Y Splitter Power cables for Mac Pro.

Maybe you live in a country that don't have it on the local market, you can buy one AMD RX 580 from another manufacturer, but it's better to ask if the one that you found locally is compatible.

Some cards, like Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580, a Sapphire model for PC overclockers, have problems when using into a Mac Pro - it's a 2.2 slots wide GPU and uses more power than the Mac Pro specification. Don't buy this one.

I just ordered the Sapphire Pulse RX580 for my 5,1 Mac Pro. Does the cable have to be a dual mini 6 pin to 8pin or can it be a single mini 6pin to 8pin? It's very hard to find the former here in the Netherlands.

can it be a single mini 6pin to 8pin?

NO.

If you already have two mini 6pin to normal 6pin cables, it may be easier for you to buy a standard DUAL 6pin FEMALE to a single 8pin cable. Then you can use these three cables in combination to work as a single dual mini 6pin to single 8pin.

Thank you. I just ordered a dual mini 6pin to 8 pin, 18AWG on Amazon.de

I had to buy another graphics card cause my old ATI Radeaon HD570 crapped out on me just this morning. I had just received my new 2560x1440 BenQ display and had been running powering it with the ATI at that resolution for over a day. I guess it was all to much for my old ATI to take.

So I thought, in getting a new one I might as well make a significant upgrade and have my 5,1 upgradable to Mojave while I'm at it. I am trying to minimize the downtime. I feel quite dismembered as is because I don't have any spare GPU laying around that will keep me up and running untill the new one arrives.

All in all, with the delivery of both GPU and then the connector cable, I should be able to set it back up by this Friday.

I would like to have NVMe support for boot but don't have a metal compatible card. I am not able to update the firmware with the Mojave full installer because I just get a message about all cards need to be metal and filevault need to be turned off. FV is turned off. I only have the GT120 and GTX1080 video cards. Do I have to get a metal card to update my mac pro 5,1 firmware? I'd like a way around this.

There's no end user way around the METAL requirement.

just to let you guys know that my 4.1 upgraded to 5.1 with dual x5690/128gb/macvid card gtx780 6gb as successfully been upgraded to high sierra MP138.00.00 and then to mojave with MP140.00.00
when I did the flash from orignal elcapitan firmware it went straight to firmware updater with progress bar and apple logo, but to go feom 138.00.00 to 140.00.00, I had to do it twice because I left my finger on the start button after the long firmware sound waiting for the progress bar and apple logo, but it shut down the mac.
started over the procedure after a quick reboot, then let the power button go after the long firmware chime, grey screen no progress bar no logo, I let it alone for 2-3 minutes and the mac shut itself and rebouted in HS on the mojave instaler menu.
I dont know if it is because I have the flashed MVC 780 that I didn’t see the firmware upgrade bar during the last firmware update, or if it is a bug because of the restart, but now it works flawlessly.

You can update the firmware with the GTX1080 installed. You have to remove the GT120. It will work. I did it with a GTX980.

I smoothly upgraded my 5,1 to Mojave: clean install on NVME SSD (Samsung SM951) on a Delock PCIe Adapter and a cheap used Asus RX580. Thanks to everybody for their contributions, this thread is a great resource.

Thanks, I actually did try that which led me to assume that my card was not metal capable (now I see in my system profile it is metal capable). Okay I am confused then. File Vault is turned off. I still got the message with the GT120 out of the computer. The message said that file vault needs to be turned off and all cards in the computer must be metal capable. The installer gave me only the option to quit. I am not sure what I did wrong. Did I need to zap the NVRAM after removing the card or something. I am on 10.13.6 (17G65), Mac Pro 4,1 flashed to 5,1 with boot rom MP51.0089.B00. I guess I will try again, maybe with shift key held...?

I don't want to run Mojave because of the apparent lack of a Nvidia web driver for my card. I just want the firmware update to be able to boot from my NVMe. So I hear there was a version of 238 ending in 108 of the Nvidia web driver that would work with 10.13.6 and firmware 140.0.0.0.

BTW, my ignorance led me to purchase a $92 GTX-640 card to replace my GT-120. Oh well.

BootROM version has nothing to do with NVIDIA web drivers, any version will work with any drivers. There no relation whatsoever with BootROM versions and NVIDIA web drivers releases.

Search the thread for reports of people that got the firmware upgraded with GTX 970/980/1070/1080, several people updated with NVIDIA GPUs that need web drivers.

Great! So I tried it again and sure as s. it is allowing me to install. I'm not sure what I did wrong the first time, but am very glad I was looking here so that I pushed on. Thanks for everyones' help. Let's see how it goes...

[Update] It went great! No problem updating firmware and can now startup on NVMe with my cold start to desktop time cut in half. Thanks for all the help!

Apple deliberately crippling cMP becouse they want us to buy only new hardware. My Sapphire RX 580 card was stuck at 300Mhz clock speed on Mojave 10.4.4.
Luxmark reports this too, but is it not only cosmetically? The OpenGL and Metal scores aren't that bad.
