The "minor bug fixes" still doesn't include the iPhone Address Book problem. Why is this so hard to fix to date? I'm sorry to say but someone there in Magellan is incapable of knowing how to fix it. My ratings for the latest version will be reviewed in the iTunes store and the same low star will apply.

Thanks for the heads up! Will give it a try this morning ;)

No problem! Please let us know how you like it and if you can post a review on iTunes, it would be great! :D

Hi LeonPro,

Yes, we realized that the "minor bug fixes" does not include the iPhone address book problem. We wanted to make sure it works well before we release it. However, we will escalate this issue for our 2.0 update.

Thank you,
Maggie

love the app, love the UI... it's always gotten me "there" even when i make detours, it reroutes me pretty fast.... (here it comes) but please get the "street", "north", "south" "east" "west" fixed.... sometime it will take abbreviations: St, N, S, E, W etc in my contacts addresses sometime it wants them spelled out... total crap shoot....... i never know how to enter an address in my contacts..... (the other gps programs seem take spelled out or abbreviations)

LOVE THE APP, BUT PLEASE TELL DEV GUYS TO FIX

thanks Magellan!!

I purchased Navigon some months back, tried TomTom the worst GPS ever in my opinion at least for the iPhone. In my area it wasn't accurate. Now, trying Magellan and very impressed so far. Navigon and Magellan are "spot on", but Magellan POI is much better than Navigon's. Many posters report that Navigon runs slow on their iPhone G3, but it runs great, smooth on my phone. I don't play music, I have a radio/CD player in my TL. Navigon and Magellan do take longer to load than DumDum, but if TomTom can't get me where I need to go, it's "worthless". Anyway nuff said....

My question is, the $20.00 iPhone mount that I bought at BestBuy and a USB charger to keep my iPhone charged, what are the advantages of buying Magellan 's Premium Car Kit, besides the speaker? I don't lose my GPS signal, I can hear it well and it stays charged.

Hi MagnumJoe,

I am glad that you like our App!

Some advantages of purchasing the Magellan's Premium Car Kit compare to a regular mount are:

  • Enhanced GPS signal
  • AUX output enables navigation to be heard through your car stereo
  • Accommodates skins/cases (if your mount doesn't already)
  • Bluetooth hands-free calling, so you can just your the Premium Car Kit instead of a headset
  • In-car charging
  • And if you own an iPod Touch, it can also be transform into a GPS navigator! :D

If you have any more questions, please let me know!

Thanks,
Maggie

Feedback on the car kit and the last Magellan software update

Maggie,

I like the car kit with some exceptions.

*Its well built easy to insert and remove the phone.

The main thing I hate is the speaker is not loud enough for hands free calling.

When version 2 comes out will their be an exchange program or update available to resolve this? For hands free calling its useless to me.

The other problem if you use your phone as a phone and your connected to the kit via B.T. and select Iphone speaker and place the phone to your ear it still has the selection buttons active and sometimes toggles to another speaker option.

As far as the last Magellan software update it seems the program crashes on my 3GS quite often. I noticed several others have reported the same in the reviews.

Thanks,

Rad

so, I'm getting my first iPhone G3 S today. what makes this/these "apps" better than the "maps" app already installed on the phone? Don't they do the same thing, give you directions?

I believe what you are talking about is the Google Maps app that comes with the iphone. Google Maps actually requires Cell phone coverage to download maps and gives you a blue dot on the map showing your location.

The Magellan, Navigon, and TomTom GPS apps are actual GPS applications that offer Turn by turn and other features that aren't included in the Google Maps.

You could use Google Maps to get around but it doesn't offer the true GPS power any others.

Maggie any comment?

Is their any resolutions or hot patches planned for the app crashing and going to the apple logo?

Who do I need to email/ talk too about the hands free issues with the car kit?

Thanks,

Rad

This was the version release I was hoping to hear from Magellan. Sadly, it came from TomTom today:

"TomTom on Monday released an update to its self-titled navigation app for the iPhone. Version 1.3 brings a number of improvements, including Google search for finding points of interest or other information. Users can now view real-time traffic information or use pinch gestures to control the zoom level on the navigation map. "

Hi LeonPro,

Don't worry, we realized that and we have something prepared. Sorry, I can't say much ;)

I was just wondering, since it is ten days later, is there anything more you can tell us? Or at least give us some idea of how long it will take to see a new update?

Navigon just keeps getting better and better with each and every update. Hint, hint. I put Magellan in the foreground when the Car Kit came out. But the app hasn't improved. The car kit has flaws. Both have promises of changes. But where??? Yawn. Seriously. It's not funny anymore.

I have a question re: the Car Kit that I'm hoping somebody can answer. Does anyone know if the included mount can be removed so that the holder can be mounted directly to a universal bracket? I have a Panavise bracket in my car that has a mounting plate with holes and slots for various adaptors so that you can attach Garmin units, T-slots, etc. directly to the bracket.

Is there anyway to do that with this holder or are you stuck with the swivel mounting system that's included? Thanks!

James

Car Kit

Maggie,

I purchased your car kit and it's a great piece of work. Any possibility of future versions coming with arms that extend a little further to accomodate larger phone cases? This would also allow one to use a modified dock extender to reach recessed ports if you didn't feel like incorporating an adjustable one on the dock itself.

I have to agree with you, I've been holding off until I find out if the current design will handle the next iPhone (which I am planning on buying).
