@cdf So I take it this is the problem?

It does appear that device renaming or remapping is not working as my boot SSD also shows up as an external, rather than internal, device. I did follow the steps of fetching the PCI 'name' of the SATA III card with gfxutil and embedding it in config.plist. Any thoughts as to why this particular aspect of OpenCore isn't working as expected? And is there any alternative method that might work? (I think you mentioned "rebuild-device-tree".)

Perhaps a bad burn (or bad disk). Note that the burn process can take a few minutes, and is only over when you see "Burn completed successfully".
This might be not a real problem. I get the very same error message with my rescue CD after inserting it while running macOS but it is perfectly working on boot pressing the C button. Usually I just eject the CD after using it.

Not sure - I did get the "Burn Successful" message. I'll try again. Thanks

Yes, that's the problem. Check with kextstat that Lilu and WhateverGreen are actually loaded and confirm the presence of the -wegtree boot-arg.

I wonder if Windows 11 will still suffer from the occasional hang at the Windows loading screen... If you could keep us posted, that would be great.
Since it has been quite a long time since the last posts about Windows 11 and Microsoft has released the system officially, it is clear that all the new requirements are purely limitations of the installer and updater and at least for now it does not affect the normal operation of the system. I've been using 11 for some time now and compared to Windows 10 I haven't noticed a single bug or regression.

The original Windows 7 drivers for Mac Pro 5.1 for Bluetooth, Magic Mouse and that silly Vista like looking Realtek HD installer work great. Did not tested WSL nor Android apps as I do not have use for that on cMP.

Rufus allows you to create an installer with registry keys that bypasses the requirements check included, but I think since we have to write the WIM to disk manually, it's useless anyway.

I think it is stable to put Windows 11 in the main tutorial. With the understanding that Microsoft may actually require the missing hardware in a future feature pack, of course

post-install issue with BS 11.6.1 on cMP 5,1 w/ATI 5770 stock GPU

I disabled SIP but every time I try to do "apply the Post-Install Volume patches" choose #3, I get an error.
"amfi" error???
I had this issue a couple months ago and I think I just re-installed BS 11.6.1 right over the top again but I can't remember.
I have moved on to Monterey but this is for a work Mac I'm working on.
The post install patch work perfect in Monterey but won't patch in BS 11.6.1.
Any help would be appreciated.

Does Win11 install differently from Win10 we are perfectly able to install from a Rufus-created USB using OC?

@cdf - Big Sur booted with OpenCore. I haven't had a chance to try and create another Rescue CD and may not be able to do that until tomorrow.
That's fine. Big Sur booted with OpenCore was the test setup for the creating the CD. This is how the CD should appear in Finder:

I wonder if there are differences to account for depending on what media is used. I've been testing this with a DVD+RW...

Steps from original post are completely sufficient. You need NTFS EFI driver if booting from USB installer created by Rufus. I used that because I had this flash drive at hand. Initial Windows Setup window with "Install now" button should appear on every computer without any modification though as those CPU, TPM 2.0 checks happen later? So you should be able to open CMD and write image even without that. Effectively, everything about the installation is exactly the same as with 10

Yes. Provided that you have the right hardware, everything you need is explained in post #1.

OK, I think I recall installing Win10 using an ExFAT-formatted USB (or was it FAT32?), showed up in OC bootpicker and it went like a breeze from there. If it's NTFS this time this shouldn't be any harder.

Instead of creating an OC Recovery CD...I simply took a small thumb drive and formatted it as GPT/APFS with no operating system of any kind. Then I took my regular OpenCore EFI volume and copied its EFI folder to the thumb drive's EFI volume. As simple as that.

So, how do I use it? Easy. Whenever something worth considering (like a new OC release, or the recent introduction of SurPlus) appears, I make all the relevant changes (including an edited/improved version of config.plist) in the thumb drive's EFI volume and then I boot my computer (I happen to have a Mac-flashed GPU) selecting the thumb drive EFI boot.

I got the CD going, which is good and found a CDRW which is better. I tried to do the thumbdrive and it doesn't seem to be working. my GPU isn't mac-flashed so I have no display on boot, I did try to arrow right and hit enter to no avail. I'm kinda SOL on this option aren't I?

Have you tried holding alt/option @ boot? Right @ chime, try holding alt/option -- see if that toggles/brings up the thumbdrive... I know it's a long shot, but worth a try?

Automated tool for updating OpenCore:

Guys, kind of a noob here. Go easy.
cMP 4,1 -> 5,1. bootrom 144.0
Dual CPU
GT640
970 Evo Plus NVMe

On Mojave 10.14.6. Trying to upgrade to BigSur. I've got OpenCore installed, booted to the EFI partition.

Do I need SurPlus and do I need to make all of these edits to the Config.plist? Or am I overthinking this?

Yes, you do need SurPlus and have to add the appropriate edits to the Config.plist. Honestly if it seems too much, the easist thing to do is use Martin's pre-configured package. Its just a matter of drag and drop and he has tutorial videos. You can find his link at the way beginning of the guide.

Sorry, now I'm really confused. I already followed Martin's pre-configured package.
