I got the same e-mail this morning and I ordered the 3G within the first 10 minutes back in march.
I'm guessing that Apple sent this e-mail to make sure that the pre-order folks don't freak when the world sees the May 7th ship date.
I expect to see movement on the pre=orders this week.

different order numbers
This same email came in at 1:17 PST . . . but take a closer look. Now Apple has assigned an order number which is different than the order acknowledgement number. Maybe it is getting closer to shipping ?

I ordered a 64G 3G this last Friday morning (April 16). Apple pinged my account over the weekend and I received the email this morning saying I was still scheduled for late April.
Must just be the people ordering from today on that are being bumped to May 7.

I haven't received an email either, and i ordered on 3/13 just before noon, the day after reorders started.
My shipping did change from 2Day to Priority, and online my order still shows "Late April.". I am not worried, and as for the email there are tons seeing sent and I am sure that the email servers at Yahoo and the like are having fun sorting out the messages coming all from the same address, haha.
I got the same email for the iPad 3G order I placed on Saturday 4/17. I'm guessing the arrival will be between Friday 4/23 and Friday 4/30. At least it's earlier than May 7th.
At least I'll have my iPad Dock by the 22nd, it will be sitting there mocking me.

Why would Apple ship before their Retail stores even have stock, or deliveries? I.E. have they ever shipped a product before retail even has stock to sell?
If we get before the 7th, how does the Genius Bar handle issues/problems?

They never said release date was may 7th, all they said was that that's when you should expect the ipad to be shipped to you if you order online from today.
Release in Apple Stores will be the same day we get ours delivered, sometime in the next 7 days I assume
I've waiting 5 years plus for this; I can wait another 250 hours. WHen I saw the email this morning, I thought for sure it had shipped from China

I've been tapping into the 3G on my iPhone 3GS through the MyFi app since day one with my iPad WiFi... Flawless... This is the 3G access road iPhone customers should have been offered by AT&T in the first place, perhaps for an additional $5-$10 a month. Let me be the millionth person on here to say that AT&T are out of their minds if they think I'm going to tack an additional $30 a month onto my bill so that my girlfriend and I can sit outside once in a while and watch a selection or two off of Netflix or the ABC player... For how often we have done (or will do) that, it would average out to the cost of a movie date to watch the latest episode of LOST if I give those vampires another $30 a month... No thanks AT&T.

Well good for you
I, as well as hundreds of thousands of people, will be paying AT&T 30 dollars a month so i can enjoy mobile web, email, video and apps anywhere i go, regardless of wether or not my iPhone that only holds 6 horus of light usage charge and 3 hours of tethering can hold up to the task.
Also- I think a month of being able to see movies > paying 20$ tickets to watch one movie.
Just got an email from Apple, no change to my online status, still says "Late April"

Maybe others have not got their letters yet. If this is true that is good news indeed.
My Mar-12 64GB order got an email confirming 'late April'. My Apr-6 and Apr-7 (64 and 32GB) orders haven't gotten any emails yet (but the order status still says 'late April)... but it looks like people who ordered very recently have gotten confirmation/update emails
Shipping Method?
My order I placed a couple weeks ago for 16GB 3G showed the update from Standard shipping to Priority; however, the second order I placed for 32GB 3G this past Friday (after all the shipping methods changed) still shows Standard. But I got the April ship email today for both. You think they will probably send them all the same shipping method anyway?

I haven't got my email yet. I ordered March 28th for the 64GB 3G. Maybe just the recent orders are saying will ship Late April. My order status still says Late April and no charges are pending against my credit card. I've even called the credit card company to let them know of a pending charge and not to block it. Hopefully I get some kind of change on my order status. Like ships this week.

How many hours a day do you think I'm going to be using the iPad / iPhone 3GS combo, if any? And that is my point buddy: for me it would be crazy, I already have an iPhone, so most of the time I will be using that. The (my) iPad will see the need for 3G service 2-3 hours a month, so in my eyes I feel as though a jailbreak-iPhone-piggyback is not "stealing" from AT&T or any other such finger-wavable offense.
