[Merged] iPad 3G Ship Rumors

Should I order my 3G iPad through Apple today or should I wait to see when the Apple Store reservations pop up? Apple's website states the iPad 3G as shipping by May 7th and don't know if that means I would be like a second or third tier on the shipping time because of waiting so long to pre order or what. Basically what is the fastest way to get my hands on a 3G iPad at this point? Thanks!

someone suggested earlier in this forum, order online and (when) the in-store stock is released, you can cancel the online order (so you can get in on the 7 May shipment but change your mind if need be). So if the shipment goes out and you have had no luck with your local stores then you are sure to get one in the mail. Remember you can cancel online anytime (without penalty) if you do so before shipping prep starts. Sounds good to me. Good Luck to you!

Same here. I have a trip planned for May 1st so ordering online is out of the question... I will be taking my chance at the store if the stores happen to hold inventory before May 1st.
 
Now it says SHIPS BY MAY 7th? WTF?

Apple has updated there 3g ship status on there page to Ships by May 7th....

What is this? A game????

Is it listed as "Pending" or as a completed transaction, though? Mine has been "Pending" since I placed the order April 13th.

I also received an email that confirmed late April ship. :D

EDIT: But they didn't charge my card. :(
 
Some of us have received the e-mails saying our 3gs will be shipped by late April.

It's unclear whether the May 7th shipping date applies to everyone, or does that date apply to any who places an order from this point on? It is not totally unreasonable to expect Apple to do a staggered rollout of the 3g units. Take care of the customers who pre-ordered their units and get their units shipped by late April. Those customers who place orders from this point forward would have their units shipped no later than May 7th.

Just a guess...

You're assuming that there's going to be an actual "launch day" as there was for the wifi. I haven't seen any evidence that that's actually going to happen. There is no reservation for in-store pickup, no announced "launch day", and the 3G will be going up for shipment within the next 11 days.

My guess is that buying in-store from Apple or Best Buy is going to be a "Wii-like" hit-or-miss proposition for weeks yet. I'll bet online ordering from Apple is the best bet. I think I'd be surprised if anyone would be able to just walk into an Apple store and walk out with a 3D before that date.
 
credit card just charged for AppleCare

I just checked my Visa account, and I have now been charged for the AppleCare protection plan for the iPad. So now I have A.P.P., case, stand, VGA cable... all I need is the bleepin iPad!!

Apple is being cagey because they know if they provide absolute specifics and something happens to change the date, then customers will lose their freakin minds. Just look at a few of the posts in this thread where the shipping date changed from late April to May 7th. What's that a week difference? You would have thought the world was coming to an end....:D

And yes...I'm one of those customers patiently waiting for a 3g unit.
 
Alright, so I preordered my 32GB 3G on Friday; got the email this morning, and within the past two hours my shipping went from standard to priority. Glad I made it into this shipping cycle.

That is a good guess. I have read earlier posts where someone ordered yesterday and their order online says "end of April" and someone else posted that they ordered today and got "May 7" note. Here is a copy of the letter apple sent to me this morning. I preordered my ipad 3g at 9:15 on 12 March.

To Our Valued Apple Customer:


Thank you for your recent order of the magical and revolutionary
iPad 3G.

We would like to confirm that your order will be shipped in late
April as communicated at the time you placed your order. You will
receive a confirmation notice when your order has shipped.

If it will help folks figure out when/if they should be receiving emails, here's my info:

Ordered IPAD WI-FI + 3G 64GB-USA @ Mar 12, 2010 at 1:48 PM EDT

Received email from Apple: Apr 19, 2010 @ 6:22 AM EDT

Ordered both the wifi and 3G version on the first day of preorder (3/12). I had both the initial pending transactions dropped back in March. This is a new pending charge and is similar to when my wifi version was getting ready to ship for the 4/3 launch.

FYI. I ordered my iPad through my company's business account at Apple (no corporate discount on iPads yet by the way). Today I received this email from Apple:
