There is something to ordering a product online. The excitement to knowing it'll arrive soon, the nervousness of will it ship on time, excitement in tracking where it is on that shipping journey, finding a way to keep yourself sane til the delivery truck arrives, and then the excitement of getting it.

I am well aware that sounds really dumb but it's fun for me. It feels good that others here are in the same boat I am with their enthusiasm.

Again I am aware how dumb I sound but thanks for the geek support.

Btw is it Friday yet? ;) I know that day I will be up early, walking around the house so I don't fall asleep and miss the delivery guy. Last year I was at work when my iMac was delivered, I called the guy and told him I would pay him if he came back later in the day to drop it off. Felt so good to have my iMac.

Erm, they won't ship until the 29th or 30th

The ipad won't ship until the 29th or the 30th. Apple never said that we would get them on the 30th did they? The email says " shipped by ". I relied on macrumors for info about arrival, but after seeing no change in status, along with the writting in the email, it looks like the general population has it all wrong.

Edit: press release says "delivered by" though. I guess we have to wait and see.

They did say it. It was in their official press release: "will be delivered to US customers who’ve pre-ordered on Friday, April 30."

So lets just hope that this does not happen to anyone on Friday. My iPad case has been in Hong Kong for days as you can see. Finally called up to see what in the devil is going on and apparently it's being held up in customs or something. I thought it would clear customs in Anchorage. I'm not too sure what they were exactly talking about. Anyways it's bizarre. Never seen anything do this before.... but I could care less - as long as it's not my 3G sitting in hong kong for days! I'd be so mad!!!

My power pack/cord did the same thing -- seem to be stuck in Hong Kong but lo and behold the doorbell rings and there is FedEx with a package.

Went back to the tracking site (which I had checked that morning) and all of a sudden there is Anchorage, Memphis, etc. etc. Some kind of FedEx data backlog.

Now I wasn't all the anxious for the power cord, but I was supposed to be leaving on 2 week trip to Europe (damn Volcano!) and didn't want it to sit on the patio all that time...

I am not aware that any email says "shipped by" the 30th, but only shipped in or by "late April," and a few days later they established a firm date and said "delivered to...by April 30."

So unless they are late, the units must be in our hands (those who pre-ordered) on the 30th.

I went to the Apple Store in Bridgeport Village just outside Portland, OR yesterday and they had a giant sign out frontvthat said 3g + Wifi go on sale Friday, April 30th at 5. I ended up canceling my 32gig as I'm going down there at 9 on Friday morning and am gonna hang out all day. Regardless, 85% of us will have our desired iPad between Noon and 5 Friday. Anyone who doesn't get there's will have it bright and early Saturday. Stop worrying about what Fed Ex is saying, they are usually terribly inaccurate in the local tracking of their parcells. It's coming. Just be patient.

Yeah not dumb at all. I'm on board. I actually took off the day from work this Friday. It'll be a good day to catch up on house work for the wife, but at the same time she called me out saying she knew it was to be at home waiting!!!

I called apple because I was concerned about the previous 3 charges (for the full amount of 878.74 )dropping off, and I wanted to confirm that my Ipad would in fact be delivered on 4/30.

I spoke with a Rep. whom advised that Apple does not want us to know where they are shipping from yet. She further advised that the Ipad would indeed be delivered on time. (I guess it means that the Ipads are being warehoused in the states).

And last but not least, that the shipping notifications would begin going out sometime on Wed. through Thurs. and that they will not post any other charges until my Ipad has shipped. Yay ! :D:D

Like a kid at Christmas!

Yeah I called my bank last night cause the charge for the iPad disappeared and I was worried for a sec but the lady said that companies have been known to do that to make sure the money is there. It should reappear soon and go right through with no trouble.

About iPads being in the States: That does make sense seeing as we haven't gotten notices yet. Though to be fair my iPhone 3GS shipped from China on 6/17 and I got it 2 days later on 6/19 so given that example it would ship tomorrow. So I would expect a shipping email either later today or during the night seeing as China is 12 hours ahead of us.

They get paid to handle this.

But do they get paid enough?

Apple has clearly said that the iPads will be delivered on April 30th. Why are people phoning and asking about the delivery before then?

If they don't show up on the 30th sure, call and bitch all you want. What is the point of calling before then though?

because it's a big race to be the first person on Macrumors to say, my 3G is here, ohh my god Fed Ex and Apple love me best, ohh my god!!

Please explain to me the logic of phoning to check on the shipment of a product that Apple has said will be delivered on the 30th, when it is only the 27th today.

Well typically shipments take time to travel...teleportation is still in Beta testing. So some of us who threw down 7,8,900 bucks to see an iPad by the end of April are both a little perturbed and excited by the prospect of it arriving on time. Apple has no history at all of pushing back dates at the last minute. Ask any internation iPad buyer, they'll tell you how dependable Apple timelines are! :apple: ;)

Cuz you know when someone's credit card gets charged but then the charge falls off, cuz that hasn't happened to anyone here EVER, it's important to call cuz this multi-billion dollar company that is known for doing things better than 90% of the other companies in the ENTIRE world may have dropped the ball on this one very important and special order!!! They are probably so busy that they have yet to figure out where it will ship from and which shipper they are going to use so we better call and ask them, you know, just to give them a little nudge--wink, wink. Just pretend you are calling about something else--they won't mind! Also, they need to be checked on, because their very manual system of stacking hand-written orders on a table until they are ready to ship is susceptible to one being blown off by the air conditioning system and you know it may fly off the table and land behind a file cabinet never to be seen again...and you know that is going to be an order belonging to someone here so everyone should call now!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Just wait until the carrier is announced. During the Wifi launch, there was one guy here who called UPS about 10 times a day. And posted about the conversation which each successive rep. I still don't remember why he felt it was necessary (he already had his tracking data and delivery date like the rest of us), but my sympathy does go out to all those CSRs.

Interesting

I preordered my 3G the day they let the ship date slip to "Ships by May 7th." I went to my bank website and found this today... did everyone see the charge appear today? I think this is only an authorization though.
