Alright drove 35 miles to Malibu and back to Downtown LA, so 70 miles total.

-Voice stutter is still a problem

-Music stutter is still a problem

-Still slow on the 3G in general (not 3GS)

-Ipod integration is still horrific, I'll get into an accident trying to switch songs one day - it's very frustrating.

-Route turn by turn is necessary but also slow to load, took ten seconds. IMO, this should be one button away on the map.

I liked the Google integration though..

...but you can't add features and streamline an app to make it run smoother, and it's evident that this is fantastic for everyone but 3G owners. Luckily, I'll have a 4G phone in July (or whenever it comes out).

Anyone else having trouble with podcasts not showing up? I get the podcast option in the ipod function, but when I click it none of my podcasts show.

I don't know if or how in-app purchases are updated, but they need to do something with traffic- it's horrible. It often picks routes that put you in even more, worse traffic. I've even bit the bullet and followed it's traffic reroute when I had little doubt it would be worse, just to make sure. And regarding the traffic add-on's contribution to the estimated time of arrival, it truly is a joke. I sometimes end up leaving Navigon, firing up the built-in Maps app to find out when I'm likely to arrive, then reopen Navigon.

Hey those of you having problems with the Google search, give it a try now, leave the where field bank and see if it's working now.

works now, very nice ... it needs distance and direction indicators (arrow) to make it complete

yes, but not sure they are supposed to (although i have not idea why they wouldn't) ... the new feature mention Music and Audio Book ...

It's been very helpful to me ... what city/town are you using it? And as always, navigator plus using your brain is the most optimal route ...

Anyone here having any issues with re-adding the traffic to this update after they do a clean install? I just want to make sure before I delete it off of my phone.

I did not have any problems re-adding the traffic when going from 1.2 to 1.3....FWIW. I just had to 're-purchase' the add on. You really don't have any confirmation that it is a 're-purchase' before you do it. There's only a message that you've purchased it before, but only after you've done all the steps and it is ready to download. This is why I keep the iTunes receipts for some of the larger purchase apps and all music/videos/content.

I didn't have to do this purchase for 1.3 to 1.4. I made sure I had enough room before I started the upgrade that I would not have to completely re-install. If you can, just delete some content that's easily re-sync'd (like videos).

HTH.

One tiny feature I found this morning: When the GPS signal is not strong enough to position you on the map (red bar at the top) it displays an accuracy message. Something like, "Accuracy: 47m". Nice touch.

I'm also digging the "audiobook" setting. When I'm listening to podcasts and the voice begins speaking, it pauses the audio but when it starts playing the audio again it skips back a little bit to sort of repeat the last thing you heard.

My feeling about Navigon in general is that its features are excellent, but the poor performance on the 3G makes it near unusable. This update hasn't helped in that area at all. :(

Used 1.4 again this morning... the voice stuttering problem is definitely still there. Everything is fine for a while, then I get to an exit ramp and it starts this:

"In half a mile, at exit 6B for ............ take the ramp right."

Then it does the same thing when I reach the exit - cutting out the important information.

Usually after that the voice just stops altogether and I have to close Navigon and launch it again.

This is on a 3G of course, but really its unacceptable.

Sebby/comatose81 - i know it shouldn't make a difference, but just curious how much free space you have on yor 3G? and are you using music during nav?

I was not playing music this morning on my way to work. I have about 1.5GB available on my phone - I have the 8GB model. I am jailbroken and have things like iRealQuickSMS and LockInfo running, so they may be contributing.

I can attest to Navigon being very slow on the 3G iphone, including the latest update. It's borderline unusable, you pretty much need a 3GS to use it. Latest update is a bit quicker though. My iphone was not jailbroken and was not playing music, and had been rebooted before launching.

You should not even begin to complain without disclosing this jailbreak information every single time. It's no wonder you have problems. There is a reason Apple does not allow user apps to run in the background.

Navigon runs just fine on my wife's 3G. She uses it all the time and has never complained about slow performance. It's not as smooth as on my 3GS, but I didn't expect it to be either.

Okay, this is what I thought - it's a 3G thing, not really specific to my phone. Certain aspects of it are unusable in my opinion - trying to start up the iPod (i.e., pick songs, etc) is a joke right now and I don't even bother. As a straight navigation app only, it works well, occasional reboot to start the voice again notwithstanding.

Mail, iPod, and Safari can run in the background while Navigon is running... they use a helluva lot more memory than either of the JB apps I mentioned.

Actually, it's kind of funny because if I have my Mail app set to fetch data on a schedule, my phone will try to kill the Mail app when Navigon is open. Interesting since Navigon must have struck a deal with Apple to let their app run with a high priority. Usually its the third-party apps that get killed if memory runs low.

3G (16 gigs) 8 gigs still available.

NOT Jailbroken ever

Navigon 1.4

STILL HAS PROBLEMS

-Voice stutter is still a problem

-Music stutter is still a problem

-Still slow on the 3G in general (not 3GS)

-Ipod integration is still horrific, I'll get into an accident trying to switch songs one day - it's very frustrating.

-Route turn by turn is necessary but also slow to load, took ten seconds. IMO, this should be one button away on the map.

Does she have Traffic service?

I completely understand that the 3G performance, on average, is horrible and unreasonable; however, there are people who aren't experiencing these issues and are reporting a good experience ... i gotta assume the variable is in the features turned on/off, amount of disc space, use of traffic or not, use of iPod or not, etc ...

I loaded Navigon 1.4 on my old 3G w/o SIM card (so no traffic or Google) and turned off iPod integration ... it is working w/o menu lag or voice lag, in fact, it's pretty good minus the data/music capability.

Probably not acceptable to dumb down the feature set (Navigon should really fix this!), but it would be nice to know the feature setup that works fine for 3G people who don't want to spend more on a second nav app like TT or M.

Just trying to help

I have three iphones in the household. My old 3G, my wife's 3G and my new 3GS.

Both 3G units exhibit the same crippling slowdowns. Both have only about 10 MB of music on there, Navigon and nothing else. These 16GB units are pretty much empty.

On a fresh hard reboot, never having launched mail or safari and not playing any music I will still get:

* Slow startup time (I don't really care about this)

* Impossibly slow button presses, especially when trying to enter an address

* Stuttering and cutouts in voice instructions

* Forget about trying to play music.

Bottom line is on the 3GS this app is the best thing ever. On the 3G it is borderline unusable, unless you have the patience of a saint. I've tried everything from Gokivo to AT&T Navigator, TomTom etc... none of them are nearly this slow on the 3G. I think Navigon is using just a smidgen too much power for the 3G to handle. I wish they would just come out and put some kind of a disclaimer on the App Page like many other apps do to warn 3G users.

The first version of Navigon to come out ran fine but with 1.2 things started getting slow.

... they're forgetting about the people who got them 23% of the mobile nav market

... feature crazed ... and useability is suffering (gotta balance the two)

... so will market share if they're not careful ... lot of new 3G being sold these days

Home

I noticed that whenever I install an updated version I always lose my preferences like 'Home' and 'Favorites'

With 1.4 however I noticed that when I update the 'Home' location, it doesn't save it. It remembers it as long as I have Navigon open, but when I close it and relaunch, the Home location is gone, and I have to retype it.

Anyone else have the same issue, or am I alone in this?

same for me wondering where it went.

Mine isn't jailbroken and Navigon is very, very slow on my 3G.
