The pricing of the new iPad is great but I didn't think Apple would re-introduce the iPad Air 1 body and screen 3 years later.

I've owned both iPad Air 1 and 2, the screen on the iPad Air 2 is just amazing, huge upgrade from the Air 1. So that's a bit of a shame, other than that this is a great entry level iPad.

I read somewhere that Air2 screen was about 8% darker than Air1. Now we hear that the screen on the new iPad is brighter than on Air2. I wonder how it compares to Air1 in this area. Are they similar or not.

And still waiting for 2gb of ram confirmation...

The education pricing is $299 and the specs and design are perfect for classroom and training. I just ordered 10 to start with. The education and corporate markets are going to buy a lot of these I suspect. We'll just see if it slows the decline in sales.

Appears Education pricing is $309 and not $299 for some reason. lol.

So what is the different?

Some already got theirs today and apparently they are saying it has a "cheap quality" to it compare to previous ipads. Got to pick up mine after work.

It is not a premium model, and that is OK if it results in a price as low as this. I might just pick one up so I am curious about people's real world experience with it. Hopefully it looks and feels just like a faster iPad Air. I have both an Air and a Air 2 and the screen on the 2 is better, but the screen on the Air is good enough for this price point.

Typing on it now. Replaced a third gen iPad (first retina) and it's obviously loads faster. Screen is great. I'm sure plenty will complain that they simply can't use an unlaminated display but it's actually totally possible.

Thanks for the review. Must resist ... don't need another iPad ...

Sounds great. I have a Pro 9.7 and I didn't want a screen downgrade for my backup so I went with Air 2 128GB.

However, I'm sure my dad will be very happy with the 2017 iPad as a replacement to his iPad 3. :D

Night and day. (2017 vs 3)

I can imagine. Although my dad's iPad is still on iOS 6 so his isn't actually doing too badly.

My backup iPad 3 on iOS 8, the lag was so bad I was tempted to use it as a frisbee. Oh well, at least that didn't matter much once the videos start playing on HBONow or Netflix. iOS 9 was an improvement but it was still very slow.

Can anyone take a photo or video showing the screen different between 2017 and pro?

I have been using mine for 2 days, frankly there really isn't much to review about, as it is just an Air 1 with A9, you can expect the exact experience from just looking at the spec sheet, sort of like when the SE launched.

I upgraded from an iPad 3 but also own an iPhone7, so as an iPad it is miles better, but there are obvious features and hardware goodies on the iPhone 7 that the iPad 5 lacks, which you should be able to find on the 9.7 Pro, that is, the laminated + close screen, the ultra thinness, a chip that never chokes etc.

This product is clearly aimed at a shrinking tablet market where customers are increasingly price-aware, especially for those who already own an old tab which never breaks. If it carries anything more than the barebone then you simply won't see Apple price it this low.

So the new one has a better performance than the Air 2, but worse in every other way?

Still tempted by the Air 2 tbh.
