When are we going to see some hands-on?

I want to see what that screen looks like out of curiosity, thats about it

Same for me!
I want to see if that non-laminated screen is a big deal.

Also, I'm curious about benchmarks. I wonder if the A9 will be much powerful than the A8X.
Overall, I prefer the Air 2. And if I see it at a great discount, I'll buy it.

Have you ever seen an iPad before the Air 2? Of course it's a personal preference, but I think the display on my iPad mini 2 is just fine. I'm sure laminated is better, but honestly I think to majority of people it's not a big deal.

I think Apple is very smart to divide the iPad into the consumer and prosumer lines. I would not be surprised to see the iPhone follow suite, especially with all the rumors about 2 different iPhone lines.

Agreed. The target market isn't gonna care about the lack of laminated display. They'll just be happy with the $329 price point for a full-size iPad.

What is special about laminated display? More readable under sunlight?

Great that a relatively fast, no frills iPad is cheaper. So what if some of the specs are nearly three years old - that's par for the course with entry level tech.

People forget that the Pro iPads are ridiculously expensive to most middle of the road, middle earners. £300 is a good sweet spot for a decent quality tablet.

I'd really love Apple to bring back something like the old plastic MacBook too for, say, £649. No need to compete with £299 supermarket laptops but the stratospheric pricing on Apple's lineup is getting silly.

For me, less reflectivity so it's better for brightly lit environments both indoors and outdoors. Also, it's nice not have the loud, hollow tapping noise from the Air.

I've seen two offers in email of discounts on this new IPad $25 from Best Buy and $10 from Adorama), and it hasn't hit the stores yet. First time I've seen an Apple product discounted before it's on the shelves in the B&M shops.

Best Buy Canada: "There's a new iPad?"

The new iPads are already open for walkin sales in Hong Kong Apple Stores, and I grabed myself a silver wifi 128GB.

I upgraded from an iPad 3 so it's hard to tell how the screen is different from the Airs and Pros. But since mine has white bazel, there is indeed a clearly visible black "frame" below the surface glass flushing against the actual LCD down below. The screen inside looks like embedded 1mm down, not that it bothers me but it may for others.

It came with iOS 10.3 out of factory btw, surprisingly quickly so.

That's not really a surprise. 10.3 has gone public. I would be far more surprised if they were shipping newly released iPads that needed an upgrade right out of the box.

Look like hk is where people really can buy this ipad first in the world.

The Apple Store here in Sydney is already selling the new iPad. 128GB Space Grey sold out within an hour, but I grabbed a 33GB Silver.

All up, it's like an upgraded iPad Air 1. Slightly faster than the Air 2, and for the money pretty great.

Also interesting, they are still selling and advertising the mini 4 in 32GB, even though online is now only 128GB...

Boulder, CO store has them.

What's the rush?

You think this will be sold out for the next 1-1.5 months?! That there will be a mad scramble?

Sure, some people will get one right away...flip side also applies ie. some won't.

Really? I seem to recall mine coming with the newest OS. I'm sure the 7s/8/edition will ship with iOS 11. Even my iPad mini 4 came with the just days old iOS 9.
I mean iPhones that should come with x.0, but need x.01 immediately upon activation.

The pricing of the new iPad is great but I didn't think Apple would re-introduce the iPad Air 1 body and screen 3 years later.

I've owned both iPad Air 1 and 2, the screen on the iPad Air 2 is just amazing, huge upgrade from the Air 1. So that's a bit of a shame, other than that this is a great entry level iPad.

Happens sometimes. I remember I had to update my iPhone 7 straight out of the box suggesting they were building stock for a long time...
