It is not installing for me in Windows XP. I am confused. Click and nothing happens.

Same here on a MBP..then I ran the software update program and it installed fine. The stand alone installation does not seem to work.

Worked for me. I can see why people thought it didn't work...takes like 30 seconds for the stupid dialog to pop up!

I'm a bit irritated because it through off my Nvidia videocard drivers. Took me a couple reboots and fooling around to fix it.

does anyone know - what will happened with the current Boot Camp ?..
still can be used or expired?..:confused:

I don't believe the current bootcamp will expire; the pre-leopard bootcamp expired because it was actually a beta. Also this update is distributed through windows and not os x software update, so it wouldn't affect the bootcamp utility.

Those of you complaining about it not launching. WAIT. It looks like Apple did a half arsed job at doing the whole package, but it will launch, and it will install.

I don't know if it updates the Nvidia drivers. I was using custom drivers before hand. The current date for the drivers is 1/24/2008.

Oh, and the trackpad still sucks in Windows.

I can't believe they haven't fixed the major trackpad issue(s) yet. What the hell is Apple even doing updating Boot Camp w/o fixing such a glaring bug? It's funny how VMware Fusion emulates Vista perfectly, yet the supposed native installation is just horrible.

About Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows Vista 64

This update addresses issues and improves compatibility with Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista running on a Mac computer using Boot Camp. It is highly recommended for all Boot Camp users.

Important: Installation of Boot Camp 2.1 is required before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Update for Vista 64 is not installing. Spent yesterday about an hour with no result... Very frustrating experience. Tried to install from a disk, directly from the site -- no way, Jose.

UPDATED: same story on XP; update can not be installed, neither from the stand along downloded file, nor via the Software update.

Tab Key Broken with 2.1

UK users - even with the keyboard reset back to UK - the Tab key only gives a minus (-) and not a tab function. I can find no way to fix this 'pain in the ass' bug.

:(

Hi,

Anyone has any idea of a workaround or the cause of the problem?

Thanks,

Important: Installation of Boot Camp 2.1 is required before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

It's required to upgrade. Windows works by looking for the first boot partition when installing SP3. Under EFI, no such thing exists as there is no first drive, you just switch between the partitions you want to boot from. Therefore, you need to trick the Windows into thinking the "C:\" drive is the first partition on the disk. However, under BIOS emulation it sees the HFS+ partition as the first drive, and obviously Windows cannot write to it. It's a simple registry key that redirects. The new version includes this key so SP3 can be installed.

running .exe possible solution

Hi,

when you download .exe from the internet in Windows XP and Vista (I think), they are 'blocked' by default by windows XP/Vista as a security measure.

What you have to do is right click over the downloaded apple update and click on Properties.

Under properties you should see a button called 'Unblock', click on this and then on OK.

I've shown an example of what you should see albeit it's for 'K9-webprotection.exe' but you should follow the same process for Bootcamp update.

You should then be able to start the program and hopefully install the Bootcamp update.

Interesting ... I've got two questions

1.) Do the installers of BootCamp 2.1 need BootCamp 2.0 to be installed already or can I install a fresh system with these drivers? Usually I'd say: Of course you can install them on a fresh system but just to be sure.

2.) Can I use the 64bit driver on ANY Mac now (not only the Mac Pro which was until some days ago the only Mac officially supported for Vista X64), so even my MacBook?

Well there is a rumor going around that macrumors covers mac topics that aren't rumors! Mainly because there are so many Mac users here and the information is useful to them!

You heard it here first!
