I know but won't it be so much better when it finally comes.

Not if I can't wait that long. I might be forced to get a PC laptop and run Linux rather than wait for the iBooks.

Edit: I guess it should be noted that I'm a bit annoyed by a stupid iPod update neglecting the iBook. As such, I'm posting in an annoyed state of mind.

Well, AC adapter is included.

As well as the crap ClickWheel...

No new iPod for me :(

When can we expect to see 4th gen iPods that aren't just a nice update from the second gen?

The gap between the 20 and 60 is hopefully temporary - there isn't an iPod in the lineup I'd actually buy anymore! My 15 is full, so there's no point in getting a 20; and I won't fill 60 before it's obsolete. 30/40gig would be perfect. Maybe they're waiting on the single-platter 40gig drive.

In the sale section of apple's website, they're selling the 30gb "ipod w/color display" for $329 or for $299 if you can get the education discount. Though if you're anywhere but in the US, I'm not sure this does you any good...

My sister just bought a 20GB last week from the apple store. Is there anything she can do to trade it in or anything for a color model? I've never had a problem with buying an apple product near an update, so I don't know if its possible? Anyone else have similar expereince with previous generatons?

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm in the UK - but I'll be having a look at the UK refurb store when it opens tomorrow morning now you've told me that!

Cheap 4G's in Special Deals

Has anyone else noticed the 20 gig 4G in the "special deals" section for $219 (from the pre-color screen days of course)? I'm thinking very seriously about going for that when I *cough* finally order my ibook.

will this deal work with a highschool student?? how about a elementary school teacher? or is it only for college students?

EDUCATION discount

As I understand it, the same pricing is available for anyone who is at all associated with education or anyone who has no qualms with lying and saying they are ;). If you can't get the price as an high school student or as a teacher then I think it would time for you to become a college student.

They did add a $179 EDU rebate on the iPod's when purchased with most Mac systems. :D

I hear a 60GB iPod calling my name for $190 after rebate.

Or selling the Ipod Mini to get $180-200 off the price of an iBook for myself =)

Errr... gonna sound stupid, but what's so different about these "new" iPods? -- except that I seem to recall there used to be a 30 Gb and 60 Gb choice and now it's 20 and 60...

They have essentially eleminated the monochromatic iPods...and replaced the 30GB with the 20GB to help make the price more attractive.

So in fact, there are no "new" iPods. Just a re-arranging of the line to make the regular iPods more desirable. So in fact, the iPod shuffle 1GB and the iPod 20GB are the best deals right now.

Does anyone remember what the original 60GB iPod photo sold for? Was it $599?

The color screen on the iPod is a must have. Sorry, but the color screen and ability to display your images is a must have. Everyone here seems so upset by it, but an all color line up is the future. The black and white scheme feels like a gameboy compared to a PSP.

The only "new" iPod is a 30 GB iPod Photo with a 20 GB hard drive in it.

upset very upset

I sold my 40gig 4gen ipod about a month ago just because of the revision in knew was coming up. Now im upset that what I want didnt come out 30gig photo w/lowered price. It is nice to see that you can get a 20 gig color now but still what the heck why would apple leave out there midrange its what prob 40% people wanted out of the revision. And i dont think anytime soon that a 30 gig will be realeased because they arnt selling the older model in the refurbished section because of the new thickness to the 20 gig i think they just replaced the hardrives in the old 30's and wal-lah new 20's. I think im just going to bight the bullet and go out to target or somewhere they would take stuff of shelves after a revision and pick me up a 30 photo.. I just think 60 gig photo for 399.99 is a good price but it would be alittle more ideal if they still had the 30 gig at 349.99. And does anyone know if apple is still going to have the studen 15% discount? Id like to take them up on the new offer but dont have the funds.

No, the discount is for high school students as well. K-12 includes highschool.

yes, but it says K-12 teacher or staff member, not student. if your saying the EDU discount is for High school kids then yea thats right...but i need to know if the "student union" deal for the iPod mini is for high school kids. Which are you talking about?

5g

i'd call em 5g iPods. theres not much further they can go now, unless its video but he always said people dont have the content on their computers, so i guess from now on they'll just get cheaper and more hhd space.

as an owner of a 30GB iPod Photo, i always knew they would drop the 'photo' tag and it would just become the next iPod, but i cant understand why theyve dropped the 30GB version. its perfect, the 20GB isnt enough, and the 60GB is too thick. im well happy with mine tho so its alright.

Shuffle Sounds Much Better; New Low Price!

MacSA said:
.....just noticed they dropped the price of the 1Gb shuffle... down to £88 in the UK.
US Edu price for the 1Gb shuffle has been reduced to a SWEET, almost irresistible $119.!!!
And although it’s limited in capacity and functionality, and is not part of this promotion, it has one major advantage.
It SOUNDS GOOD!
In fact, in my opinion, it’s the only player (Sorry, all ye millions of ipodders upon whose toes I am about to heavily tred) that is even LISTENABLE.
I had been mystified by the entire ipod phenomenon, because of the elevator-music, instantly depressing sound --- no deep bass, or crisp highs. But THE SHUFFLE HAS BOTH! I thought I must have been mistaken after first hearing them the day they debuted at my local Apple Store, but confirmation - and explanation - soon came from PC Magazine’s series of rave reviews.
Their initial positive review included a call to an Apple exec., who DISMISSED the idea of better sound, replying, “Prove it!” Within a week or two, PC Mag had done just that, publishing tests of most popular players’ (Apple and other brands) ability to reproduce square waves (I’ve forgotten the mHz). The SHUFFLE was the ONLY one that could! But the truest test is at any Apple Store: just put on the headphones and compare!
I had previously assumed that mediocre sound was due to compression losses, and that Apple lossless would help. But PC Mag says that the great fidelity improvement is due to the shuffle’s being the only player with a push-pull amplifier stage.
PLEASE Apple --- PUT THIS CIRCUIT IN ALL PODS!!! (I want photo- and large HD capabilities; and actually prefer the “large” ipod’s size & feel.)

Well, all I know is that it allowed me to select my school, and it asked me if I was a student or faculty member of that high school. They may have changed it since I bought my iBook.
