30Gb Photo Still Avilable,Now Only $300.Before Rebate!

The gap between the 20 and 60 is hopefully temporary - there isn't an iPod in the lineup I'd actually buy anymore! My 15 is full, so there's no point in getting a 20; and I won't fill 60 before it's obsolete. 30/40gig would be perfect. Maybe they're waiting on the single-platter 40gig drive.

I think they should have kept the 40 GB for $349. That way, they would still have the $50 increments, and there wouldn't be such a gap between the 20 GB and the 60 GB.
I agree with everyone who says that the shift of the ipod (Photo) from 30Gb to 20Gb is not great. To me, 20Gb is too small, and the 60Gb is too fat.
BUT THE 30GB IPOD PHOTO IS STILL AVAILABLE AT THE ONLINE STORE, NEW, AT A REDUCED PRICE OF $300.00, AND STILL QUALIFIES FOR THE $179.00 REBATE!
THAT'S the one to get, but they won’t last long!!!! Only $30 more for 10 more Gigs! (I WISH I had the money or credit to buy a new Mac . . .)
Just remember, the ipod & Mac (& printer, if you want the additional $100.00 rebate [who wouldn’t?]) must be on the SAME receipt, and apparently can only be purchased from the Apple Store or campus authorized reseller.
Have fun!

Wow, all thoes rumors of iBooks and computer updates were wrong. How shocking!

Apple is good about spaceing updates. They will likely have to burn through as many versions of the PowerPC based chips as they have contracted with IBM. I would guess a lot of updates.

Two weeks and we will see more updates, and then another two weeks, then three, then 1... Apple will do what it can to keep it's name in the press for free.

Does this mean all white iPods are iPod photos?

20 gig 4g 219$

still i think the 219 refurbished price is still a good deal considering the 6gb mini at 149.

My sister just bought a 20GB last week from the apple store. Is there anything she can do to trade it in or anything for a color model? I've never had a problem with buying an apple product near an update, so I don't know if its possible? Anyone else have similar expereince with previous generatons?

Check the return policy - many retailers have 30 day policies as long as you return the item with all of the packaging and nothing is damaged. Try to find that out before going back to the store to avoid being stonewalled if you run into someone uncooperative.

Here's the return policy for the on-line store, so it looks like you may have a 10% open box fee, but you only need be "not satisfied" to return it:

"RETURN & REFUND POLICY
If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a pre-built product, please call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) request within 14 calendar days of the receipt of the product. If the item is returned unopened in the original box, we will exchange it or offer you a refund based on your original method of payment. The product must be returned to the Apple warehouse within 14 calendar days of the issuance of the RMA. All products must be packed in the original, unmarked packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product. A 10% open box fee will be assessed on any opened hardware or accessory. If you purchased your order using an Apple Business Lease, you may be asked to provide a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) for apple to assess the 10% open box restocking fee.

Please note that Apple does not permit the return of or offer refunds for the following products:

Product that is custom configured to your specifications
Opened memory
Opened software*
Electronic software downloads
Personalized iPods
Software Up to Date Program Products (SW upgrades)"

Oh, no! No updates before Sept. 24 !?!?!?!

Based on the update and the rebate they currently have I can guess with some degree of certainty that there is no new Mac products coming until October.

Grrrr.......
Oh, no! No updates before Sept. 24 !?!?!?!

That’s when this promotion ends, and I don’t recall Apple EVER ending this type of promotion without “the good stuff” coming out right at expiration. I don’t know the date of Paris Expo this year, but remember, you must “TAKE POSSESION” of your purchases before the expiration date, so even if something good is announced earlier, Apple will ship it so it will be too late for this year’s “cram n’ jam” promo.
Oh well, buyers will be happy anyway . . .

Personally after my old iPod died when it took a 1 foot fall onto a carpet, I won't be buying any more iPod's until they have a decent shock protection system built in (a bit like the new Sony player). It won't be fool proof I know, but another line of defense for my hundreds of dollars investment would be nice...

I've dropped my 3G iPod onto hard floors from probably about a three foot height a few times now, and it has survived every drop. So either you got a bum machine, you hit it just right, or mine is some sort of super iPod.

Video is just a gimmick and watching video on a 2" screen will never be more than a novelty that's fun about half a time, and Steve Jobs knows it...

A novelty for you, maybe. Please don't speak as if you speak for everybody.

so how certain are we that the iBook won't get an update anytime soon. I have been waiting patiently for a week :) (i know not that long). I was hoping for a speed boost, but I also can't wait. I guess I'll wait for July 7th, if not then, I'm gonna buy.

I also don't know what to do regarding the iPod offer. I really would rather have a shuffle (smaller, cooler), but a free iPod mini is a free iPod mini. maybe i should just sell the mini on ebay, and get a free $200 or so.

The color screen on the iPod is a must have. Sorry, but the color screen and ability to display your images is a must have. Everyone here seems so upset by it, but an all color line up is the future. The black and white scheme feels like a gameboy compared to a PSP.

Actually, funny enough, I almost like the b&w screen better. It has a nice "classic" feel to it. The color screens feel almost too fancy to me, which doesn't make a lot of sense, because I'm the type that would prefer a PSP to a GameBoy. *heh* But then again, the old GameBoy also had a nice feel to it. Maybe it's the sort of mesh of old and new, where you have the high technology of the iPod mixed in with a more retro screen.

FM?

Can't they fit a tiny little FM receiver in their with a wire antenna wrapped around the inner perimeter of the case?

My desire to have a good little portable FM radio was driven home by being in Wash, DC on Sept. 11, 2001. I had to walk home from my law firm's office down at the foot of Wisconsin on K street. It took me a little over an hour and man how I wished I had an FM radio to find out what was happening. This lead to me getting a set of wireless headphones for my motorola phone that incorporated an FM band. I'd still like to see basic FM broadcast functionality incorporated into iPods. That way, if you have your iPod, you'd have a link to current news and information be it on severe weather or big national news.

Does anyone remember what the original 60GB iPod photo sold for? Was it $599?

yeah and the 40GB was $499. i happend to be at my local apple store the day they came out. i almost bought the 60GB but was talked out of it by a friend. i'm glad they did. is there anybody here who bought those early iPod Photos? i'm just curious what you think of the update and the $200 price cut.

When they make a minor adjustment like this one, it signals a bigger change on the horizon.

- Bluetooth/WiFi combo chips (like the ones Intel is developing)
- Video iTunes/iPod
- 80/100GB Micro Drives

I bought the original 40GB iPP brand new the day 2nd Gen iPP's were released. Paid less than $400 after rebate. It came with Firewire/video cables and a Dock (something the 2nd and 3rd Gens don't include). Overall, I feel like I got a great bargain, even with the new models/price points.

you got a great deal. i somehow forgot about the dock. like someone posted earlier here the people who got the 40GB on discount look really smart right now. in hindsight now i don't think many people paid the full $599/$499 for the first ones.

i spoke too soon

I guess it works out for everyone Apple has the 30 gig photo's on their sale page for 329.99 not too bad just wonder if i can use my student discount on them or is the student discont not valid since they have the student union going on? anyone have any insight on it

So...is this the 5G iPods?

Are these new iPods the 5th generation ones? I really hope not because it seemed like the 5G ones were going to have something different that had not been seen before on the iPod.
I hope this is just a merge of the iPod and iPod photo and not the new generation of iPods.
I hope the announcement on July 7 will be about the new 5G iPods.

iPod Shuffle Price Drop

For Education:

iPod Shuffle 1gig is only $119 now, not the previous $139 or so.

:(

But YAY for the iPod color screens :)

The older 30GByte iPod photo is $299 to students from Apple's Sale site.

On apple website

"All New iPods".

yeah, right.

why did apple bother? OK its good that apple have got colour across the board for the regular iPods but how about some innovation.

Products cannot stay static ( and I don't care what sales figures were until now) otherwise competitors will catch up. Apple must innovate more. Podcasting was a good addition but any iPod can do that.

i don't understand why they got rid of the 30gig.
i thought for sure they would be getting rid of the
20gig and intorduce a price drop.
this would lead the way to the 5G video 'pods. :) :)

Wow. Not even on the front page yet. Lazy web admins....
yeah, the news here has been SLOoow lately. hopefully it will pick up soon.

Excellent move by Apple. This now merges and simplifies the product line, effectively lowers the price of the iPod photo, and upgrades the iPod with color screens. Well done!

I'm thinking there's going to be a vPod or something to fill the $499 pricepoint that is now lacking from the line.

And what's this with the new Shuffle prices? I see no correlating update on Apple's site. So much for upgraded shuffles :(
