So either you want an iPod Touch or a Zune.

inputing information on an iPod Classic and Nano would be pointless at this point withe the release of the iPod Touch. ;)

I envision an iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano and iPod Touch. Better yet give the consumer the option to add an external screen to attach to the Shuffle and kill the iPod Nano and Classic line. :p

Input? I didn't say anything about Internet or Safari. The only "input" you'd need to enter would be a 4-digit code so you can pair it up with another iPod or computer. And they already have a 4-digit code input implemented in the lock feature.

And what's wrong with adding some features of the Zune? I think Zune's wi-fi feature is a good idea except Microsoft have ruined it with DRM and all the other crap they do. Just sharing music over wi-fi would be great. Connect to airtunes. Keep it simple.

Are you trying to be crucified? Bono followers know their music. There's a reason U2 is hailed one of the greatest bands of today, and of all time.

Yeah, and I had to put up with studying it in Music - small mercy was the the following band studied was queen.

Im still going to go with the flower power type design, seeing as i have nothing better to do at the moment.... here they are.

Hope fully i did the upload thing right, if not i apologize, i'm new here...

errm no. I'd be seeing an LED backlet apple logo as well as the click whell (if it will still be here) haveing LED lights/ text. This of course can be turned off, and if its on, it will only use 3-5% of the battery since its so small.

I dont care what others say I want a <Digital> FM tuner. Being able to listen to the news in the morning while on the go, and switching over to my tunes in the afternoon. Or even better, Having Sirius Satellite radio on the ipod that, along with all the touch/iphone features would truly make this a feature pack system no other company can beat,

If your woried about the fee, it would eirther be free <less likely> or just take out a small amount every month from your itunes account. If you chose NOT to have it, just stick to plane old FM radio.

I know the whole ipod thing, listen to your own music, radio is old and blah blah blah, its nice to have a choice... a FM tuner would be great, just as long as its a digital tuner.

The Wi-fi sharing is another good feature. Lots of people have ipods, great feature.

Microsoft ruined it because they wanted to show off and be the first to have the wireless sharing, but they didnt know it would take a while for this to catch on. and it never did and never will

it's strange, but I really like the second one. though I don't know if I'd like to carry one of those around me in the wild.

but I will wait and see what comes..you never know if you get surpirsed or disappointed at the end of the (launch) day.

So many people have put their own mockups in place that I can't tell which photos were posted at 9to5. They were apparently legit as Apple's legal eagles have had them pulled. Anybody have links to copies of the pictures that were originally on 9to5?

I would not be surprised to see a customising feature, where buyers can create/upload their own designs.

are we being a little simplistic

Maybe Apple are going to offer a "build to order" iPod.

You get to choose your own photo/image, upload it via the apple store and it ships to you.

Would be great for all those companies who want to give iPod shuffles/nano out as prizes - they could cover them in their logos.

.....leaves to order a playboy nano.

I think i might be in love with you

Now they are pushing cold play.... we might see a cold play ipod.... knowing apple

Let be guess, it'll be ice cube blue or something.

A Coldplay iPod?
Probably will have to be manufactured from recycled macrobiotic lentils and packaged in sack cloth before Gwyn… err Chris Martin would allow it. ;)

It would also refuse to play certain songs because… like… it would be such an invasion of privacy…

I have this feeling that they'll stay with the current nano form factor because of its simplicity. But with a new circuit board and higher-density flash RAM, longer battery life and storage capacity as much as 32 GB could become reality, essentially a 3.5G nano.

(I do NOT think Apple will go to a touchscreen with the next nano, because its small form factor makes it difficult to create a viable touchscreen interface. The form factor of the iPhone/iPod touch makes a true touchscreen interface much more viable.)

But there's a big issue with exterior colors: a lot of 3G iPod nano cases so cover up the case that you really can't tell its case color (I use the Speck Products ToughSkin case and you couldn't tell if it was a blue-case 3G nano unless you see the center button on the Click Wheel control).

Besides, with all the emphasis on "going green," wouldn't it be in Apple's interest to keep its color choices simple? I could see potentially Apple going to like what they did with the 6G iPod classic: silver and black front case colors only.

So, you're saying that the iPod Touch will basically lead to the end for the other iPod lines? I disagree to an extent. Yes, for the average consumer, the Touch is arguably the best purchase. However, as you pointed out, the Touch doesn't have nearly as much capacity as the Classic. Some people like to have their entire 10,000-song library on their iPod. Thus, the Classic is their best choice. As for the Nano, its small size and easy-to-use interface is quite appealing. Also, an 8 GB Nano is $100 less than an 8 GB Touch. Another consideration is that some people just don't want or need all the features that the Touch offers. For example, many people don't spend most of their time in areas with Wi-Fi access. Some people just want a simple music/video player.

Nevertheless, if Apple were to reduce the physical size of the iPod Touch (which would not be easy) and lower its pricetag, then it could hurt the Nano....

Overall, there is some--but not total--overlap amongst the iPod lines. I think this new color scheme is just a way to help distinguish the Nano a bit more.

not to mention the iPod Classic still has better battery life than any other iPod available (40+ hours; for business travelers, of which I'm one, that's a huge advantage), including the phone/touch. I can't see Apple going backwards in terms of capacity offerings with the next refresh to the iPod line. It's still quite cost prohibitive to offer anything more than 16/32GB of SSD space. Look at the 32GB Touch - it's $500. If I'm someone who just wants a reliable music/video player that can hold my entire collection, am I going to spend $500 for 32GB of space (albeit flash) or $349 for almost 4 times as much storage space AND much better battery life? To me, it's a no brainer. I'll take the Classic every time over the Touch. I already have an iPhone, so another touch device doesn't offer me anything more than what I already have...

There is a huge difference between a pattern on a big bulbous iMac vs. a little pocket thingie. The floral-type patterns would be distinctively feminine within the dimensions of an iPod and would, I think, appeal greatly to a certain demographic.

I hope this rumour stays just that. I think if iPods ever became multi-coloured then they would look hideous. That being said, if there's anyone who could make a multi-coloured design look good, it's Apple.
Don't know if its been said, but it appears that the iPod event is 17th-20th Sep, with new products being released on the 17th.

http://uk.apple-expo.com/
Apple is not attending the Paris Expo, as far as I know (and hasn't since 2006). They use a different event to announce new iPods.

I predict that apple will kill off the ipod nano and the ipod classic. I think all new ipods will now be wifi capable and able to connect to itunes store like the ipod touch and iphone.

That must mean the dead of the click wheel, if the wheel dies then expect to see a mini ipod touch replace the nano.
I don't think it will happen for at least a while, for a few reasons.

  1. A click wheel is advantageous over a touchscreen in a number of situations
  2. An iPod touch (as of 2007) commands a significant premium ($100) over an equivalent capacity iPod nano (at least for 8 GB)
  3. Apple just updated/redesigned the click wheel iPod software last year. Would they have done so if the click wheel was going to go soon?
Any realistic color schemes? iTunes 7 UI-themed colors? Silver? Black? Red to orange? Yellow to green? Green to blue? Blue to purple?

Who cares about new iPods? It seems we get 'new' ones every other month. I want a new Mini and I want it now. They can make it multi-color, multi-touch, multi-OS, multi-gender, multi-racial, multi-universal - I DON"T CARE I JUST WANT A NEW MINI.

I'm holding out for a Beatles iPod. Themed with either "Yellow Submarine" or "Strawberry Fields Forever". Of course, it'll probably be "When I'm 64" by the time they get around to releasing the Beatles on iTunes!! :(
