The only thing I do not like about it is that if you watch a video, like youtube, and close it the play video screen is there instead of the wallpaper. I have not found a way to stop this but there may be.

I have a blinding hatred for every instance of it on the new OS. From the lock, to Music, to News....absolute eyesore. I guess people who have Zoomed view won't care, since their UI already looks atrocious, but man...

the bold typeface in news and music is awful. ios looked so clean from 7-9 when they used thin typefaces to highlight the high ppi of the screens, now they are going back to hideous bold fonts. wtf?

Is there a way to prevent text messages from being interacted with on the lock screen? even with a password and touch ID you can still interact with it if you haven't used to them

As in being able to reply to them? Or something else?

Geez, people get worked up about everything that Apple does. Give it a rest already. OP - not having a passcode is reckless and not smart.

People use things in different ways and when things change (potentially without any particular obvious benefit/reason) people would certainly feel like expressing themselves about it, especially in places that are there for those kinds of discussions (among other types of discussions as well). Has been happening for ages for all kinds of things really.

i try to use the home button as little as possible which is why I miss having activator. now it takes 2 presses to unlock. more you use the home button the faster it wears out, which is why on my 5s the home button still felt brand new because of activator

No, your 5S home button still felt brand new because of the TouchID sensor, which brought along with it a greatly improved quality home button. There have not been any issues with these buttons "wearing out" ever since. Great article yesterday about it over at Daring Fireball.

Yes, even if the device is locked people can reply to them
If you disable reply with message from the TouchID and Passcode section of settings that should stop it. Alternatively, disabling message preview would stop it as well.

No need to be rude.

If the gentleman lives on a farm with only his wife and without another living soul around for 30 miles there is no reason for him to use a passcode or Touch ID like those of us who live in a crowded city or sleep in a college dorm or work in an office packed with cubicles.

And that said, swiping to unlock the phone prevents accidental wake-ups. Not only in a pocket but if he puts his phone in a backpack or a glove compartment where it might brush up against something or have something heavy lean into it. Would kill his battery life very quickly. Not to mention that in certain situations its just easier to have a large surface to swipe as opposed to a tiny button.

If you enable assistive touch, you will rarely need to use the physical home button.

Problem is that this works with iMessage but not with WhatsApp and other apps. It's crazy that there is no option to prevent any interaction with notifications (reply to messages / delete emails etc) without the phone being unlocked.

Any options related to that from within the app?

No. Apple just allows full access to all widgets even in locked state (it is called a "lockscreen" after all ...) per default now and there is apparently no way to change that other than for messages / Siri / Apple Pay. That's a big step backwards on security / privacy compared to iOS 9.

Well, access to widgets from the lock screen can be disabled. That part of it is like it was before iOS 10.

How? You can not show any notifications on the lock screen but how can you show them but not allow access to the underlying widgets (as in iOS9)?

Are you talking about widgets as in those you see when you swipe to the left of the home screen or in Notification Center, or are you talking about rich notifications (when you 3D Touch a notification or swipe it to the left and use the "View" action)?

The notficaxtions on the screen. You don't have to he view panel on the left, you can jut interact with all of the notifications on the screen even if the iPad or phone is locked.

Right. You were mentioning widgets, which refers to those things in the panel on the left, which is basically what I was replying about.

Yeah, I think that the hunt for quick replies has made that part more open. On Android I can see the messages (say from Messenger) but I cannot do anyting (other than mute them) without putting in my pass code to unlock. In iOS 10 (in Messenger) I can thumbs up and mute without unlocking, but to send a message or view reply requires an unlock.
