A quick change to a few elements here makes the overall UX much better (for me at least)

Thinner weight on the time, and darker style notifications.

I don't use Touch ID or a passcode either. I am the only one who ever uses my phone. My question is how easy is it to unlock while your phone is in your pocket. With slide to unlock it was never an issue. My issue with having to only press the home button to unlock it, how many things will get deleted or how many phone calls will be made. The slide to unlock feature needs to be an option for the people that don't use passcodes.

Hate to break it to you, but you're really in the minority here not wanting to use the security features and Apple isn't going to spend the resources to accommodate people who want to leave their phones insecure. You're free to buy other phones if you want.

I'm annoyed by the new behavior where opening the cover on an iPad displays not the Passcode screen, but the lock screen. Getting to the Passcode entry now requires the extra step of pressing the Home button.

It defeats the "smart" aspect of having a smart cover, unless you want to live dangerously and not set a passcode.

WTF were they thinking?

What settings are you changing to get the darker notification setting?

I think i kinda like it as well, but i'm not finding it. Maybe it's because it's way past my bedtime..
Spent the last 3+ hours teaching my dad how to use an iPhone.. he got my mom's old iPhone 6 today when my mom's 7+ arrived. So have been going though settings all day adjusting things to make it easier for them both.

My mom initially hated that Apple removed the slide to unlock part that everyone is bitching about. Took her about an hour to realize it's actually for the better, she's already used to the new home button. People just need to calm down and actually use some of the changes... you get used to it quickly.

It's not a setting. I designed that myself. Wishing Apple did the same or at least gave us a choice!

Dude, that's a MASSIVE improvement. Apple NEED to give us dark mode on the iPhone, and incorporate dark notifications EXACTLY as you have illustrated.

Apple, are you READING this?!?!!!

I have to agree with OP. I still haven't upgraded to iOS 10, and that's mostly because of the slide-to-unlock being gone. I have very small hands, so being able to slide my thumb across the screen from wherever my hand is resting is important. No matter if I press the side/wake up button or the home button, I can slide my thumb on the screen from that position.

I tried the fingerprint setting (resting my fingerprint on the home button to unlock) and it was miserable. It didn't always recognize my fingerprint. And I only get to save five fingerprints. So now I have to remember to use specific fingers each time. Ugh.

Concerning security issues - there are a great deal of people who simply don't need to lock their phones for whatever reason. Leave it at that.

Just out of curiosity, would you typically use something other than a thumb or maybe the index finger to operate the home button?

When I tried to use the fingerprint scanner, I found myself pressing the home button with various fingers, just whatever was closest. Once that was my left middle finger, which wasn't programmed.

But what I'm saying is that normally/typically how you interact with the home button?

This is obviously a subjective matter. I rather like both the new lock screen. And especially the new control centre.

In the past 2 years with my iPhone 6 the only time i've used "slide to unlock" was after an update cause I knew Touch ID wasn't going to work. or when My hands were cold/damp/etc also knowing Touch ID wasn't going to be effective.

Beyond that, I always use Touch ID. So this change meant pretty much nothing to me.

Now.. My mother could never get Touch ID to work consistently with her. We went to the Apple store to see if there was some issue with her iPhone, Touch ID works fine. The Genius Bar guy explained that *some* people that use Lotion a lot, like my mom, or tend to have cold hands/fingers, Touch ID doesn't work as good if at all.
My mom has Arthritis and has weak blood flow in her hands so her hands/fingers are almost always cold.
If she warms her hands up, Touch ID works. Pain to do for a simple unlock.. So she never uses Touch ID, but still has a passcode.

This change made her mad, but now that she had no other choice with her iPhone 7 Plus... she adapted to the change quickly. (in less than a day) Now she likes the change cause it's actually LESS movement/action to unlock the iPhone.

IMO too many people are just having a Knee Jerk reaction and refuse to "learn" the new way. Most of us that use Touch ID anyway... probably never even noticed.

I tried it out for a day in preparation of iOS 10, and I really didn't like it. It worked for me most of the time, but when it didn't, it was very frustrating. Mostly because there is no aggressive action I can take to try again. When slide-to-unlock doesn't work the first time, I can quickly slide again. Which I'd rather do than passively lay my finger down. I understand that's just in my head (feeling like I'm in control and doing something vs. feeling like I'm passive and doing nothing), but that's just how I feel.

At the end of the day, Apple should give people choices, not just remove options *they* think are useless.

You can press the home button and get the passcode entry screen as you would if you swiped.

People have a huge problem with my OPINION in the other thread about this change. God forbid someone doesn't like something & people have a problem with that. This is the problem with people these days, everyone gets offended & no one respects other's opinions.

I wasn't aware that it's mandatory to accept changes that make something harder for that person.

I guess I didn't get the reference to "passively" laying the finger down, which I thought was in regards to using TouchID (which can only exist if a passcode has been set up as well). If no passcode or TouchID is being used, then the same action of simply pressing the home button should unlock the phone.

we're about as in the minority as you are one of those people who cares TOO MUCH what others do. If we lose info/data because we choose not to use touchid then that's OUR problem, not yours or apples. Who are you to tell someone what to do with their phone? I mean really you're the type of person that gives iphone users a bad name.

Yes, if your finger is laying perfectly on the button. But that's not always the case.

To be fair, these forums are always this way after a launch. Many users just get tired of countless rants about some feature that was removed, not removed, tweaked, or forgotten. Unfortunately, this seems to lead to the kneejerk reaction of "Get over it, mine works fine".

Also consider that complaining on a Apple-centric hobbyist forum is not likely to have any positive impact in the best of scenarios. Consider that while your issue may be 100% valid, it is probably surrounded by 12 Samsung user troll bait posts.

That being said, it definitely doesn't offend me if people do not use a Passcode. I didn't until Touch ID came out, and I am a Network Administrator/Engineer lol.
