If Google were at all interested in mass selling these, yes, it is a mistake. They're clearly not as the Nexus line continues to be a line geared for developers.

I think the problem with Nexus speculation has to do with the fact the Nexus 6 is based on existing devices. Motorola isn't going to build some special phone with feature its models don't already have. In terms of functionality, I would expect vanilla android with a bigger screen, and 32 gb processor, and no features the Moto X 2G doesn't already have.

It's not a developers only device. It's officially sold at Sprint and T-Mobile. There is no reason to exclude the majority of consumers, which is what will happen here.

If it's as thin as the new iPhones then I'll consider it. If it's thicker then this will be a monster phone.

Here is a comparison of large phones about the same size of the rumored 5.9 Nexus. The 5.9 inch Nexus would be about the same size as the Lumia 1520 which is 6 inches.

It looks like they're not compromising on anything this time around. Great specs. Let's hope the price is still Nexus'ish.

Obviously it's not for developers only, but it is geared towards developers. It's designed to be your standard vanilla android device. It's neither high margin (otherwise they would charge more than $350 for it off contract) nor particularly high quality. Nearly every flagship is better at something or in overall build quality than the Nexus equivalent.

If no Nexus 5 follow up comes out, you'll know I'm right and Google isn't interested in selling boatloads of Nexus devices.

This is ridiculous! 5.9"??? Wtf?

I ordered a Moto X.

My understanding is the first gen Moto X is better because of its size, but you can't argue with what Motorola is doing from and hardware and software standpoint currently.

There's a difference between not trying to sell a boatload and shooting yourself in the foot. A 5.9" phone is a very niche device.

An updated Nexus 5 might make sense. But I question what battery improvements they can offer if this is a spec update and not alterations to their physical hardware. You can offer the Nexus 5 with a better screen, speaker, and camera, but I doubt they can do much to the battery life (unless a new chipset helps in some way). I wouldn't be surprised if the plan with the Nexus 5 is to simply offer a 64 GB variant and lower the price across the board. ($300 for 16 GB, etc.)

Fix the camera and the battery on the Nexus 5 and here you have the perfect device.

LG's contract with Google and Nexus devices is up. Google does 2 year contracts with manufacturers making Nexus devices. So there will be no updated Nexus 5 by LG ( actually Nexus 6, for it being the 6th generation Nexus phone )

Samsung had 2 years = Nexus-S and Galaxy Nexus
LG had 2 years = Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 ( 4th and 5th gen phones )
Asus had 2 years = Nexus tablets in 2012 and 2013

Motorola is the new Nexus phone maker, this year, and next years model
HTC is now the new Nexus tablet maker this year and next years.

I actually think it follows screen size. ie: nexus 7/10. At least that is what they started with the nexus 4. It just happened to be the 4th generation. Same with the n5 and now the n6.

Google abandoned Nexus 10 owners to an increasingly out-of-date tablet with no update which is enough to put me off buying from Google ever again.

Honestly, I am no fanboy. I loved Nexus devices and have Android, WP and iOS for web developer reasons. Nexus 6 is the ugliest smartphone I have ever seen. I loved Nexus 5. But hey, then I will save som money I guess :).

Motorola Shamu aka Nexus 6 full specs leak: 5.2" QHD screen, Snapdragon 805 and Android L
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Moto...D-screen-Snapdragon-805-and-Android-L_id59287

Ok, this is an old rumor from mid August, so I am sure this is outdated, but... ;

The Quad HD 1440p resolution got confirmed in the table, and we even get to know the screen size now - a 5.2" diagonal, which is, thankfully, a far cry from the 5.9" size bandied about before.

I am itching to upgrade my phone, so I really hope something like this comes to fruition.

i'd love a Nexus 6 with 4,7 inches (my limit is 5") as the N4.

i don't want a phablet/tablet.

if it's more than 5", i'll but the Mi4 or... i don't know!.

I was sitting in a cafe today and at the table next to me was a Moto rep. He had the Moto-X (2014) in his hand with a custom back it. Nice phone and great build quality. Anyway he was on the phone talking to someone about getting stock of the Shamu handset by next week for demonstration purposes.

I asked him what size - he said big. Very big. 5.9!
