I'm not sure, that's why I was asking for real life experiences. I'm still very tempted, but the Note 6 is also right around the corner...arghhh

You and I are in the same boat. I am searching for the right deal for another Samsung device, whether it's a Note 5 or S7/S7E at the right prices ($400 for Note 5, $500 for S7/S7E.) But I have a pending order for the 5X now and could still try out a Moto X to see if it's good.

Lost OIS and wireless charging in the 6P. Plus I would say the build quality (not aesthetics - quality of parts, QC, etc) was far better in the 6 over 6P. The DAC is way worse in the 6P. And the processor is a dog in heat.

EIS does not make up for OIS. BS. There have been some comparisons around (I believe on Jerry Rig). In 1080p it suffices, but not as good. In 4K it is no question. Not sure the 6P even has EIS in 4K.

Eh, that is disappointing, but minus OIS, the 5X/6P camera still competes with the best, no? Wireless charging is overrated imo. I sold my wireless charger w/ my S7 Edge that I had. It really didn't do much for me. I feel like companies skip corners for no reason nevertheless and Huawei not putting wireless charging is dumbfounding. Samsung gimped their S7/S7E w/ quick charge 2.0 and no Type C charging.

Hmm, interesting. I had initially gravitated to the 6 as I dig the larger screen. Most of the reviews I've seen say the 6p has a better camera than the 6, but they don't really mention OIS. But that's why I solicited personal experiences from you guys. The 6 at under $200 is very tempting, it's still a hell of a phone.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the 6p has a much better camera in every regard over the 6. Ois was just a check mark on the spec sheet.

Nexus 6 Video/Picture:

Cons
  • Slow to focus
  • Could not lock on focus
  • Terrible Jello effect
  • Poor low light
  • Slow to capture
Pros
  • It was better than the previous year
Nexus 6p Video/Picture

Cons
  • Slow when it decides to use HDR (HDR Auto)
  • Can be at times, slow to shoot when initially launched
  • Video is jiggly in 4k with EIS.
Pros
  • Quick to launch
  • Great low light (better than the s7 in regards to quality but not shooting if that makes sense)
  • Good dynamic range
  • Fast to focus and shoot when HDR is not active
  • Video in 1080p is very crisp and EIS does a good job stabilizing

Just wanted to point some things that I find better as a daily driver from the Nexus 6.

Type C: You can find these in every Best Buy now. This article is 3 months old.
Battery: Much improved
Screen: Better accuracy and outdoor visibility
NFC: Moved to the top of the device making mobile payments easier and more practical.
Keyboard: Improved latency
Multitasking: Albeit slight, enough of a speed difference to notice (plenty of YT videos showing this)

Have the option to pick up a 2 month old 64GB mint 6P, with extended 2 yrs Nexus Protect warranty from Google for $400. Seems like a damn good price considering it would cost me $630 after tax now, even with the $50 off deal. I'm feeling the itch to play with Android again, love stock and especially would like to try Android N (this won't be my primary daily driver).

Good deal?

Decent deal. What color? Be weary of black since it chips paint.

Too late...seller made another deal while I was typing and considering it. It was the silver model...thanks for the info regarding the black as that actually would be my preferred color. Same problem with the white (frost)?

Not sure with the White, but from my experience, the black's paint chipped away with moderate usage, so I returned my 6P to Google for a refund since they didn't want to acknowledge faulty manufacturing and fulfill a warranty exchange. Good phone nevertheless. $250 for a 32 GB 5X through Project Fi is available w/ Black as a solid color. My mom has a 16GB one herself and it works well for her. Just make sure to cancel Project Fi's plan after activation to get as close to a pro-rated $30 refund on it in addition to keeping that $250 charge for your Nexus 5X.

I bought the aluminum at launch and had that up til a week ago when I gave it to my brother (he broke his Nexus 6). I now have the gold and I've had no issues at all with the build quality.

Well, broke down and picked up a Frost 64GB 6P...been too long since I dove headfirst into Android. It must be unlocked and stock (or really close to it) and I love me a big phone :D, so this was my best option (and it's over $200 cheaper than my next choice, the HTC 10).

Enjoy. Nice thing about a Nexus is that updates typically improve the experience and N should bridge the gap for many with features vs performance.

Can't argue with that. I picked up an original Nexus 5 for my son to listen to audiobooks and play around with a camera.

Whilst the camera is pretty meh now and the build quality and battery leave a lot to be desired, it flies on Marshmallow with the 801/2GB RAM.

I certainly credit Google for keeping older devices running smooth with major updates.

Let us know what you think!!

And if you just ordered from Google, call them and get $50 back. They just went on sale today:
https://store.google.com/product/nexus_6p?hl=en
I wasn't eligible for the discount - still 649 euros here in Finland via the Google Store. Bought mine for 599.

So far I've been very impressed with the 6P. I love the crispy display, awesome speakers and most of all the clean experience of stock Android. Only thing I have to get used to is the size and the placement of the volume buttons. The buttons itself are a bit too light and can be easily pressed by accident.

Also I'm not too sure about the build quality. I just scuffed the aluminum a bit by accidentally hitting the bottom to the edge of a table. Well, it wasn't really a hit, more like a gentle bump. Nevertheless, it scuffed quite a bit too easily.

@lautzki I wouldn't call a scuff a build quality issue. Most finishes will show a mark when another object is rubbed against it too forcefully. Also, the panel at the bottom is just a vinyl overlay, it's not actual aluminum. See the teardown here for that info.

Just had a 6p drop into my hands, very nice phone. I see what people say about scuffing easily coming from a gorilla glass backed Note 5, but a skinomi full body skin should help with that.

Anyone brave enough to run N on it? I'm tempted just to experiment. I still have my Note 5 so I'm not afraid to have a beta OS. But does N run well on it? Any caveats or major bugs?

N isn't bad and it is easy to get. You just sign up for it ans it shows up and an software OTA. Then when you are done you can remove your 6P from the program and they will send the latest image as another OTA. It is really easy program to get a look at N.

Mine arrives today. I'll use MM for a little bit, just get re-acquainted with Android and put the 6P through its paces but as I still have my iPhone, I'll ultimately pop N on it as well, probably after the next release.

I put N on my 6p last night, it's quite smooth. I'm installing all my apps and settings today and will switch over for a bit. Initial feelings is that I much prefer my Note 5. I have grown accustomed to wireless charging. I have a wireless, magnetic charger in my car and when I get in I simply place the phone on the charger, it holds the phone vertically with the magnets and wirelessly charges it, no more fiddling with cables and such. I'm also impressed that both have the same size screen, but the note 5 is quite a bit shorter and a bit narrower. My main gripe is I'm still waiting for marshmallow so I will have to see if it's worth downgrading hardware to the 6p in order to get updates sooner.

Anyone here take the plunge with the new Live cases for the Nexus phones? Think it's a really cool idea but just designed a couple different versions for the 6P--one photo and another based on a place--and they'd 'leave the warehouse' in 5-6 weeks.

Are they really that popular or is this just another example of Google botching yet another new product release?

Is there a way to get a dark theme onto vanilla Android? I would ask the question in both Marshmallow and N, but am more interested in the answer for N. I'm really missing dark themes from my Note.

OK just figured out dark theme, but it's only for google menus such as settings, apps don't follow the dark theme.

I gotta say multi window is pretty sweet in N, everything works as opposed to Samsungs implementation where only some apps work.

Good idea. Its pretty stable for a developer release but not as a daily driver for me.

edit: for some reason my post was incomplete.

You're finding your way before anyone responds, lol. Nice!

Who knows, maybe the dark theme will make it's way throughout the ui.

Received my 6P yesterday and just starting to get reacquainted with it. I realize this is mostly old news since it's been out for 6 months but as a regular iPhone user who hasn't spend significant time on Android (still have Nexus 7 that's the living room media tablet) over the past couple years, thought I'd share my experience from that perspective. My very early first impressions as I slowly start setting it up--literally just things I've immediately noticed so far:

- Feel in hand is nice. It very nearly the same size as my 6s+ so it feel perfectly comfortable to hold. Not a big fan of button placement on right side...would prefer volume on other side but that's just me, and certainly not a big issue.

- Finger print sensor is very quick and love being able to unlock phone with just a touch vs. the home button click on the iPhone BUT, really not a fan of the having it on the back...at all. Smart Lock is a nice way to avoid this inconvenience much of the time but on it's own, don't like the position at all.

- Display seems quite nice--vibrant and bright. Colors may be a touch on the oversaturated side but I honestly don't mind or really notice display differences unless i'm comparing side-by-side and even then, guess I just don't have super high standards. It's nice..my iPhone display seems nice too and can happily live with either one.

- Haven't used the camera yet and probably won't until I spend some serious time getting it configured that way i like, apps installed, etc.

Won't comment on usability much as that's really an Android thing and not really the ideal place for that discussion in this thread but rather something for the iOS vs. Android conversation. I already notice I'm going to have to make some changes to my typical usage and workflow but I never expected it to be the same...that's the point.

I'm also seriously contemplating picking up an Android Wear smartwatch as I realize how much I've come to rely and on and enjoy the functionality offered by my Apple Watch. Initial research on the current crop of devices is leaving me generally unimpressed though.

I have the Huawei watch and have been happy with it so far. The physical design is really where each watch sets itself apart from the others as the internals seem to be similar. I don't see much need for a super-powerful CPU as the watch isn't doing a lot of processing. I get through a day and could get into the next day on a full charge, maybe 36 hours if I don't charge it overnight and that's with a face that keeps the screen on all the time. It's not significantly heavier than the normal watches I had been wearing (I have 2 of these in different colors) and the band is easy to clasp. I also like that the band is easy to remove and change to something different, though I haven't yet bought a different band as the one it came with is pretty nice.

One of my co-workers has a Moto 360 and is a little jealous of my watch, he likes it better. I got mine when Amazon had it on sale for $120 off otherwise I likely wouldn't have gotten it. I have it paired with a Nexus 6P.

On your Nexus 6P comments, for someone that hadn't had a device with a fingerprint sensor before I feel the 6P's was placed in a natural location when holding the phone. I also like that you don't need to click any buttons to activate the phone before it unlocks.
