What does imac "Peripherals" mean? What peripherals? Mouse? Keyboard? Seems kind of odd to say that as opposed to just imac. Anyway, it is sold old probably doesn't mean much at this point.
Updated iMac peripherals DVT (2018)

Updated iMac peripherals DVT (2018)

He was talking about 12 months from the time of the post so from 2017-2018, some of the stuff he mentioned has happened such as the iPhone X (didn’t have under the screen finger print scanner) iPhone 8, the HomePod and mote recerntly the 32GB option for the 15” MacBook Pro only. Other stuff is yet to be confirmed or not, iMac design, the iMac peripherals DVT (2018) that he mentions and so on.

saw this just now:

Mac users have an even longer wait for new iMacs and MacBook Pro models using 'Cannon Lake' chips, after Intel confirmed the 10-nanometer processors aiming for high-end computers won't arrive any sooner than the 2019 holiday shopping period.

Saw that article as well. Wonder if that they will just forgo any update to the iMac and wait for that or put something in the middle to hold people over.

Specifically:

For Apple specifically, this means that 2019 Macs could finally be the ones to adopt the 10nm Cannon Lake processors. The most likely candidates would include the iMac and MacBook Pro. Again, however, it’s possible it might not be until 2020 until Apple is able to make the switch.

Are these the chips that everyone was expecting the new iMacs to have?
I'm at the point I need to make a decision about a new machine. I was holding out for a new iMac.

No, Cannon Lake chips are 10 nm chips slated for 2019.

The new 27" iMacs are expected to have 6-core Coffee Lake, built on 14 nm. These chips are already out.

Awesome, thanks! Now if they would just announce the damn things I could relax a bit. LOL!!

A thread named "2019 iMacs" might created.
Comments about how 10nm chips plus 2019 iMacs will be should appear.
But the first task now is the 2018 iMacs being announced.

Hahahaha. You really think that when the new iMacs are announced it's going to get quieter around here???

No, no, no, I was talking about me relaxing.

I have a late 2012 model that's on it's last legs. I do freelance graphic design on the side so I need to make a decision very soon. Do I stick it out and hope Apple releases something soon before my machines goes up in flames or suck it up and buy a year-old+ machine? Hence the tension. LOL

WAIT!

Don't hold me responsible though if your 2012 iMac goes up in flames and burns down your home...

For this moment, I'd wait.
If the iMacs not be announced any little bit during Sep. event, I might turn to the 2018 MBP first to get a BtS discounts.
Hopefully, we would see more info soon.

I pulled the trigger after WWDC, because I figured it would be another six months and I couldn't take working with my 2007 iMac any longer. I'm glad I did. My theory is that you only get at most a one year reprieve from fawning over new machines. Even if they release a 2018 this October, and you buy one, as soon as people start talking abut the 2019 and 10 cores you'll be right back in these threads. That being said, IF I had waited until now I'd probably stick it out a little longer...

Yup 14nm maybe max 6 core and if they reduce to 10nm then more core will put like 10 core. BUT do remind not all core work same time. Im waiting os to be matured separate core per service.

Nah, I've never been one that needs the latest and greatest every time there's an update. I get the best I can buy at the time and hang on to it as long as it still works. My phone and iPad are a both a few models back and I have no intention of updating yet. They both still do what I need them to do.

I'm actually still happy with the 2012 iMac but the drive is failing (original 1TB Fusion if you can believe that!). Pretty sure the HD side of it is almost done but the SSD part is whats keeping me going. I know I could drop a new SSD in there and get more life out of it but its time. Plus, it makes no sense to spend a few hundred bucks putting in a new SSD if they come out with a new one next week. And buying an external with a few adapters doesn't make much sense either. (USB2 and Firewire 800 ports). I just have no interest in spending 3 grand on a "new" machine that's over a year old already.

I have the money ready, if they just announce it, i'll buy it.
Apple has got to be reading these forums. LISTEN TO US. PLEASE.

OTOH, SSD's are getting cheaper and cheaper, and adding a new SSD, and maxing out the RAM at 32GB if you haven't already done so, may give your 2012 a bigger boost than you think. :)

I have a feeling something is coming. I've been looking on B and H's site, and most 2017 non-pro models have been backordered.

But B&H won't generally won't show "backordered" unless they know they're coming in. You'd see "discontinued" or the item won't be for sale at all.

If Apple have got something to show off, ie different hardware or updates worthy of an announcement we will see it during either the September event OR they will hold a separate Mac event for October.

It's also worth noting tho that when Apple updated the MacBook Pro's they didn't update the non-touch bar models nor did they update the 12" MacBook, maybe it's because those chips aren't ready? OR it could be that they are holding out for an event, the MacBook Pro 2018 updates were worthy of a keynote announcement (True Tone, new 3rd gen keyboard, new GPu from Blackmagic and the T2 chip, new speakers) so it could be that the September and October keynotes are going to be packed with announcements as it is:

September - iPhone's (3 new models) Apple Watch Series 4, iPad |Pro redesign, AirPods update, Airpower Mat

October - iMac (new design or at least a "significant display-performance upgrade") 12" MacBook and a new 13" MacBook

OR Apple could cram all of that into the September event.

I have 24GB RAM already in it. Any suggestions for a kit to replace the internal SSD? I know OWC has 2 different drive kits (Extreme Pro and Electra). I'm sure Crucial and a few others probably have them too. I'd be looking at a 1GB drive.

If you're looking at OWC and Crucial drives you can't go wrong.
OWC had the famous High Sierra bug. Their firmware didn't indicate the drive was an SSD, and instead indicated the drive was a spinning platter drive for some reason. Thus, macOS High Sierra wouldn't convert it to APFS.

Personally, for this sort of stuff, I consider OWC a second tier brand.

Oh yes, I forgot about that. Yeah, I agree that relegates them to second tier. At least for a while.
