Thank you to Apple for supporting all the pro users who helped keep Apple alive before the iDevices.

The nail in the coffin for Pro Power Users who need MULTICORE horsepower, big ram, and expandability.

The MacPro was a niche product, but the people who use them are the ones who set the trends that trickle down to normal consumers.

Never thought I'd say this - had a Mac in 1984 (still have sales receipt). But now it looks like it's time for the hackintosh on some box with 16 processor for our work. This is just plain pathetic.

Facebook integration ain't paying the rent for anyone - if facebook even lasts more than a few more years before the next fad pops up.

As for 6k prices - one job pays for 3 machines of the pricepoint in our shop - and these jobs only take us a few weeks. Price isn't the issue - speed is.

No Love For Intel ?

Could it be Apple is departing from intel in it's next mac pro ? Otherwise the new E5 chips were a given right ?

"Here's To The Crazy Ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the
square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have
no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them.
About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the
human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world - are the ones who DO !"

So much for that eh? Let's face it gentlemen, in Apple's eyes we are rebels no longer, we have become outcasts... :(

If Apple was DONE with the Mac Pro's why would they update them?

Probably to get rid of the warehouse of Mac Pro components they still have.

The retina MacBook Pro looks like a nice machine at a great price, but high-end professional needs aren't served by a notebook computer. Plugging in a desk-full of external components to your notebook is not the answer, either. Though I'm sure that will be Apple's official 'solution'.

here's the Mac Pro "team"

I'd like to find the Mac Pro "team" and beat them upside he head with that 5770 card.:mad::mad:

True, but now that they have so much market share and a strong foothold in the entertainment industry for distribution, why would they necessarily need us? Funny though that they spent so much time on getting Final Cut Pro X out, plus continued XSAN support, you'd think they would keep that small, but profitable market happy.

I think the nail in the coffin is that they didn't even have the nerve to update it to USB 3 or add TB. Truly disappointed.

comedy gold

Some of your reactions here are hilarious. Really? This is all that is keeping you from Windows? That seems quite drastic. Because you're a "professional."

What exactly are you using that this new Mac Pro won't hack? My Mac Pro 1,1 still can drive four displays. Are there even that many peripherals using Thunderbolt yet? What software are you using that is too slow for the new Mac Pro? .... that exists on Windows?

I'm sure a few of you have answers for that. I'm sure there are, like, a couple of you that have some actual job making video or something that needs MOAR SPEED now. If you're in that niche, is it really a Thunderbolt peripheral you need? How many PCs even have that?

Seriously, though... if you have $5,000 to throw at a computer, why not get the best mac you can get and then spend the $2,000 or whatever it would take to build an equivalent PC as your workstation (never, I'm sure, to be used for gaming).

I use a MacBook Air 4,2 for most of my work and an iPad for most things away from home or office and the old Mac Pro 1,1 to serve things up. I edit some video a couple of times a year and play with pictures every few months or so. And most of the time that stuff is usually work related.

Other than a bunch of people who think Apple "should" serve this alleged market—who are they?

Mac was the leading computer for "creative professionals" and "education" for many, many years. And those were the **** years. Becoming the mobile, user-end company that also has a toe in *regular* business usage on the desktop and a good grip on it in mobile has made the company successful.

Maybe you folks should have been buying the Power Mac G4 at the time instead of whining about it now.

That's a disgrace - no wonder it didn't even get a mention at the WWDC.
Shame on you Apple.
The fact that it was a 'silent update' is a slight on the whole product range.
You don't give a 2 year old computer a silent update.
Really really poor and I'm very disappointed.

Either would require updates to the MB. Unless they were going to the new processor, they probably didn't see the need. Could it be they are actually just pushing out the old hardware in anticipation of the new? Could be, but that would certainly be an MO change. Then again, we still don't have a long term feel for how Tim's Apple will operate.

Not sure what "MOAR SPEED" is but he's really got us whiners figured out.

Sorry, but I cannot take seriously the post of a person who can't even spell the 4 letter word MORE correctly.

I find it a bit of an insult that the Apple Store have NEW against the Pro.

You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.

No way it should merit a just updated, my guess is they're trying to sell whats left by bunging in a faster CPU, they've not even upgraded the graphics card.

They are the guys marketing Apple

Other than a bunch of people who think Apple "should" serve this alleged market—who are they?

Remember the movie-dudes are the guys that markets Apple. If it was not for all the TV-shows and films, Apple would never have the same market share. For Macs that is. The iPods and iPhones are so Windoze friendly, you dont even need a Mac to set them up. So the only reason Joe Doe gets his Mac, is because the hipsters on TV are using them.

The great thing is: There are Thunderbolt motherboards coming up from other parties, so really great Hackintoshes can be made. No sweat, if Apple wont build great Macs, we do!
