It's a shell game pure and simple. Really not sure what to do at this point. I'm kinda shell shocked. Didn't see this coming at all. Wow. . . .

I like how they call it "New" because of lower price.

You feeling the love?

I've been waiting a year for updated Mac Pros. I will not be purchasing an Apple computer any time in the foreseeable future. I'll reconsider my options, and will most probably have to (reluctantly) switch to Windows.

They didn't update the iMac, Mac Mini, or AppleTV. Are those "game over" as well?

The Apple TV was released only 4 months ago. The Mac mini is a niche product with below average gross margin and the iMac benefits the littlest from the new intel processors. These lines had less pressing needs of a refresh than the mac pro. Hence why I made that statement. The Mac pro is getting the iPod classic treatment

The prices haven't dropped at all.

The dual X5650 is still $4999 (like it was 2 years ago) & they are offering a new lower spec model (I'm thinking it's just the E5645) for $3799.

This is a shambles. Surely it would have been better to just do nothing?
It's better than nothing. Instead of $2500 for 3 year old processor, it's $2500 for a 1.5 year old processor!

Windows 8, here I come. Oh well, Mac was terrible for gaming anyway.

they dropped the single 6 core by $700 which is the system I wanted. but I mean......Sata 2....No usb 3.....no thunderbolt.....its almost worth it to give up the extra 2 cores and get an imac....whenever the hell they release those.

Hmmm... I agree with you. :(

'Daw.

Too bad. This means i'll be building another PC workstation after all, not a mac. Not that i really mind, but i feel for those of you who have been on a mac workstation for a decade and now must leave.

Easy choice for me. Moving on!

This is so so so so sad. I'm really tempted to send some hate mail to Tim Cook about all of this, but I'm sure that won't serve any purpose at all.

A big ******* YOU to all the people who needs more than a laptop and a big mess of cables and adapters to keep doing what a nice tower can do without any mess.

I'm just grateful I didn't have the money to order the new Mac Pro, or I would be burning it and sending the pics to all @apple.com addresses I could find.

Oh, I'm really mad about this.

Lol

I suppose this is a result my 2 year old mac pro is now only second in the line up. I'm still shocked though, let's hope this is just to shift some stock including graphics cards.

I'm looking at a LINUX render node next, quad socket AMD.

Maxed out a new MBP and it is $3,778.00. Is this any sort of alternative? I wonder how that will bench compared to my 2010 pro.

2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
768GB Flash Storage

I'm surprised a third party hasn't released a Thunderbolt expansion card for the Mac Pro yet. Now that there's no new Mac Pro with Thunderbolt there will be a bigger market for it.

Don't we have USB 3.0 adapters for the Mac Pro already on the market?

No wonder Tim Cook went RUNNING for stage right so quickly. Had he even attempted to run these specs by the audience they would have had to call the cops.

If Apple was DONE with the Mac Pro's why would they update them? I agree, its a lame update, hardly what I'd call an update at all, but if they were no longer interested in the Mac Pro line, don't you think it would make sense to say we are discontinuing them? I am holding out hope that there will be a major Mac Pro update, the 'Next Gen' Mac Pro, sometime this year.
