I have no idea how to answer your question... but wanted you to know that you are noticed. I would imagine that the 500 just has one more or double the platters of the 250. I do not see why that would make it any louder... but you did just double the things that could go wrong with a drive...

Backup, backup, backup... in all things computer related backup... then there is no issue... :D
 
faster shipping?

The salesman told me it wouldn't get here any sooner even if I paid extra. Mine not due until 9/26 here in CA...

Aww, thanks. Someone noticed me! LOL, I should change my name to KissOfDeath. Two platters? Didn't know ANY HDs were like that...I thought they all had one.

I believe they can increase the density of the platter to hold more data or add platters... no clue which costs more...

Perhaps www.anandtech.com or toms hardware site can better answer your noise or quietness questions... :cool:
 
Anchorage update

The puppy departed Anchorage at 2:47pm... I can only hope by air... lol
Called support and they said it could be delivered tomorrow but more likely Friday... fingers crossed...:D
 
Hmm... I was waiting for my order to be shipped from China. Instead, my order was shipped from "Union City, CA." I am assuming the CA is referring to California and not Canada... hopefully, since I live in California :)

At any rate, to anyone who ordered a 20" C2D iMac that was built-to-order: I ordered mine on August 31 (it was upgraded to a C2D by Apple). It was expected to ship on Sept. 14 and instead it shipped a day early on the 13th. Hopefully that will help anyone sitting in front of the refresh page.

Soon I will no longer be eagerly awaiting my first Mac :p
 
According to the customer service rep, mine is shipping Sept 16, but online it says Sept 15. Mine is a replacement for an eMac I shipped into them. No tracking number yet. It's being built now I guess, although it's the standard 17" 2 ghz model with an included external modem (they have to give you part for par the same features); including the modem classifies it as CTO (BTO).

I'm so excited! So many firsts for me: first Intel mac, first Mac with iSight, first Mac that can do ripple effect on Dashboard, first desktop with LCD, first computer with 1 GB ram!

lol.......i need to think of doing something with all that power besides watching the dashboard ripple effect,

I do enjoy iMovie a lot, so I'll continue with that (this is an upgrade to iLife 06 for me from 05), and with the power of the iMac I can move on to FC Express....need to find out more about it first, but seems like it might be a logical step eventually.
 
WOO! It's In Chicago!... Arrived in the city 22 minutes ago...

Of course, I don't have it YET... hmmmmmm... someone just give me an Address, so I can go pick that sucker up!
 
Gahh, my iMac is at the Raleigh FedEx facility just BEGGING to get on a truck and goto my house but yet it looks like it'll be there till tomorrow! Blast!

EDIT: Whoa! On FedEx truck for delivery! So thats from Shanghai, to Anchorage, to Indianapolis, to Raleigh, to my doorstep in 2 days..... with free delivery?

I love FedEx.
 
Ordered the 24" on Tuesday, sold my G5 2.3 Ghz (23" LCD) on Wednesday so now without a Mac.

I went with everything but wireless:

IMAC 24/2.16 CTO
2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GT w/256
500GB Serial ATA Drive
SuperDrive 8X (DVDR-DL/CD-RW)

I played around with a 2.1Ghz/1GB Ram 24" in the Apple store yesterday and it was great. Downloaded Unreal and played it for a bit, worked great.

Hoping mine ships sooner rather than later.

Drat

When it left Alaska I thought is would come right to Las Vegas, but nnooooo it had to go to Indiana... so it will not be here until 10:30 Friday... I feel like a junky in need of a fix bad... bad I tell you... Congrats to all who got theirs already... We really need some good pictures current photos leave me wanting more... oh well... tomorrow is not just another but the day...:)

I'm in Chicago too! Well, not quite, the western suburbs, but my iMac is also being delivered today. It went from Chicago to Hillside and is on a truck for deliver. I'm at class right now and have been refreshing my FedEx tracking page about every minute, lol.
 
Has anyone in the UK received their shiny new iMac yet? My BTO 20" was ordered on the 6th and currently says shipping tomorrow with an eta of tuesday. Anyone think it could come by the weekend? :D
 
AHH! My wife has the camera!

Alright, so.. of course... I raced home during lunch to set up my new 24"-er.... HA (The cab driver actually told me he was jealous... hahah)

This thing is SOOOO much quieter than my Quicksilver G4... AND the screen appears like it's twice as bright as my old 20" LCD.... It's hard to tell if my old LCD has just deteriorated over time (is that possible?) or the new iMac screen is THAT much better?

Un-freakin-believable...

Everything is so fluid and smooth... I.am.in.love...

Must remember to tell my wife to bring home the camera...
