While ATI and Nvidia maybe be pretty close in graphic capabilities I hope Apple sticks with Nvidia. A NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX with 512MB GDDR3 would at least suffice and it only draws 65W.

Now if only they use a HD screen this time around we will be in business. Maybe the iPhone won't cause them to cut back on another great product.

I think there are only 17" HD screens and no 15.4" yet but they could do what they did with the CDs and only update the top to HD.

But with resolution independence there is a higher chance of HD, that's for sure.

mbp keyboard

does anyone know if the new mbp's are going to have a revised keyboard similar to the current mb?

doesn't the macbook pro use 90W total? sounds a bit much. I'd be happy with a 7600 GT

I believe the GPU of our dreams is released in a couple of days. Or at least announced. Radeon Mobility HD 2600XT FTW!

Maybe even with onboard sound and physics processing???

Do you have a source on this? I tried to find anything on google but found nothing :(

I really wanna see what the HD 2600xt is like

How cool whould it be if they came out with colors on the MBP? I would totaly go for the Ipod shuffle orange.

So the nVIDIA Go 7800 GTX 512MB only draws 65W???

Do you realise the Mobility X1600 draws only 17W?

The Radeon (Non Mobility) HD 2600 XT with 256MB GDDR4 VRAM apparrently draws under 80W. I would assume that the Mobile version will have a much, much lower TDP. I don't know what the Radeon (non mobility) X1600 draws, but surely it'd have to be up there over 50? I'm still holding out that the Radeon Mobility HD 2600 will have a TDP of under 25W, but it's just hope, mostly based on the fact it's on a 65nm process. Hopefully Apple will use this awesome card in the MBP...

And my sources for info about Radeon Mobility HD 2600 come from the Inquirer. Apparrently R600 will have onboard sound and physics processing. It seems possible to me that if one of the series has it, they will all have it, ie. RV610, RV630, and mobile variants. But I could be wrong.

PS Something I just found: http://bjorn3d.com/forum/showthread.php?p=74165
If these stats are correct, this card, or at least the non mobility version will be faster than an X1950... *Shock Horror!*

Great even more reason for Apple to push the platform as soon as possible!

I hope everyone that's posting wattage and TDP specifications knows to look for mobile components.

Of course. As stated.

A lot easier than last time I tried to find the TDP of the M X1600. Something tells me that the 17W was jumped on by lots of ppl, so it could be wrong.

Don't know where to find TDP of desktop GPUs though to give some kind of comparison of TDPs of desktop vs mobility X1600. Any help???

This thread is interesting. 19w for a GeForce Go 7900GS? Even underclocked a little, that would be pretty nice...

Anyone know or have a proffessional, experienced take on the price range for the new MBP's? I would like to get one of the new MBP's but I don't know if I can dish out tons of $$$. It may be more sensible and affordable for me to get a MB. When do you see the MB's being updated? Near or around the time of the MBP's? I see LOTS of you talking about the MBP's being updated in May for sure now, but what about the MB's?

Re: price - Apple usually keeps the same prices and just upgrades hardware.

I'd assume the MacBook will be upgraded to Santa Rosa in a similar time-frame to the MBP. Most likely it'll get Intel's new X3000 integrated GPU. It's no substitute for a recent GeForce/Radeon but it's a significant improvement on the GMA945 of the current MacBooks.

I think (based on when things come out, and when things were last updated) MBPs & iMacs June WWDC (of course) and Macbooks July/August.

Not May. Not October. Most likely not September.

Maybe Apple has pushed back the release of Leopard to an unbelievably far back date, so they know with 99.999% certainty that Leopard will be finished by then. Maybe it will end up being finished 2 months early towards the end of July, and the release date will be announced at WWDC. Probably not though, but then we are talking about Steve "Intel chips 6 months before we said we would" Jobs.

What I want most is for iLife '08 to be released at WWDC, along with SR MBPs, which I will buy with the ADC discount, and then they will send me Leopard when it is released. That would probably be the best case realistic scenario for me.

Post no. 512. Unfortunately, it seems likely that the Mobility Radeon HD 2600 will not come with 512MB of VRAM, but will max out at 256MB. Sadness.

How much will the Santa Rosa chip increase the price on the macbooks? Will they suddenly be much more expensive or rise in price?

They won't.

The price of Napa macbooks will decrease. This is usually what happens when things get superceded.

Price of computers will stay roughly the same (give or take a hundred or so)

I would prefer the MacBook keyboards... but only if they're illuminated.

Ditto!

The lighted keys are such an enhancement, I don't know how I used a computer in the past without them. Probably with the lights on.

Anyway, I agree. I've been waiting for the keyboard to be replaced. I prefer the MacBook's keyboard, the keys are more spaced and they feel more solid and responsive than the Powerbook/MacBook Pro. And while we're on the topic of MacBook Pro upgrades, I can't believe you still have to crack open the MBP to switch out the hard drive. Ridiculous. Time make the hard drive as easily removable as it is on the MB.

Those two changes are the only thing I truly want from my next laptop. But I will be buying a MBP after the next upgrades come out. Hopefully they are soon.

Santa Rosa isn't a chip.

It's the Intel code name for the next generation mobile platform that consists of processor (a socket-P Merom), system chipset (northbridge/southbridge) and wifi. Integrated graphics are optional, as is the flash memory tech (codenamed Robson). There's

Santa Rosa replaces the current Napa platform that MacBook and MacBook Pro both use.

Intel and Apple are both very, very quiet on how much Apple pays Intel for anything, but it shouldn't affect the price.

CPU upgrade?

sorry if this has already been answered.....or if its a stupid question....will the santa rosa platform boost CPU speeds....right now on the MB there 1.83 and 2.0...will they be faster than that or stay the same?
