i think you have your dates mixed up...or maybe I do?

WWDC is the 11-15...you wrote something about the 5th...monday(if he's talking about this monday as the keynote) is the 4th.

someone clear this up, please :)

New MacBook Pros are coming on June 5th (Tues). Whether they are santa-rosa remains unknown.

The keynote part of WWDC is Monday the 11th. But there's a rumor that the MBP will be released in two days (Tuesday the 5th). The thing that's bugging me is, if the new MBP IS announced in two days, shouldn't I wait until WWDC because they may announce that anyone who buys a Mac after WWDC will get a coupon for a free copy of Leopard? But the problem is, if I do wait, how long will I have to wait for my new Mac to ship as a result of being behind a huge backlog of orders?

ook, thanks for clearing that up. i'll go put all my money in the bank tomorrow then just in case! what is all intailed in the back to school promotion? being a college student, i'd like to know if I would get any deals with the MBP.

From what I've heard about the promotion, it seems that starting June 5, Apple will offer a $179 (or maybe now it's $199?) rebate towards a new iPod to anybody who buys a Mac and an iPod within a certain period of time from each other. So I'm going to buy a new MBP and an iPod nano (probably 4GB, if that's the rebate they offer) and then sell the iPod to help pay for the MBP.

Is everyone here going to order it right when it comes out or wait until WWDC just in case?

How much of a delay does this cause if I did order after June 11 instead of after June 5? Would I have to wait several weeks? I've asked this in several places but still haven't seen an answer.

Nobody can answer because nobody knows. Sometimes Apple releases a product and its widely available, other times there's a long wait, especially if you're just a little late to the party. You should probably just assume some kind of wait to be on the safe side - like 3-4 weeks or so, but maybe you'll be lucky and its shipped the next day.

3-4 weeks!!! Holy God... Hopefully the default configuration will be suitable for me, cause in that case I'll just go to an Apple store and buy it there...

EDIT: You can't get custom config's at an Apple store can you?

So, all these potential shipping delays everyone is talking about. Based on past experience, how likely is it that an Apple retailer will be out of stock? I'm planning on going after WWDC, but could be convinced to go this week.

All this is assuming the rumours are true of course... :D

I'm gonna wait till WWDC just incase, plus my interest free credit card hasn't come yet so I can't buy tomorrow... if they are updated tomorrow.

What do you mean apple retailer? Are you trying to say an Apple store or an Apple reseller? There is no such thing as an Apple retailer.

Assuming he means an Apple store, what do you think? Will they be in stock or out of stock?

I live in Boston, so I'm hopefully going to run up to a New Hampshire Apple store to get my MBP, as I'll save over $100 because NH has no sales tax :D

ok assuming it is an apple store, I see no reason for a significant delay. these are anecdotal posts by just a couple people. the delay is likely tied to the potential release tomorrow or next week. Also a large consideration people need to take note of and always, i mean always, forget to include in posts is whether they have added any optional features which automatically extends the delivery time between 2-3 days. I really wouldn't worry too much about this, if you do see a delay I would be surprised if it were anything more than 5 business days.

good luck on your trip to NH, I hope it works out for ya.

I just came across something interesting. The previous comment about not paying taxes made me think to go look at Del. stores which are close to me. There is a message up on the only store in Del. that says it is closed for remodeling from June 4 -June 10. Now, in no way am I saying this is conclusive evidence of MBPs arriving at WWDC and not June 5, but it is interesting to note that an Apple store would be closed during the release of any product, especially in a state where many many people travel to for deals. Again this really is not earth shattering, but it is interesting.

This is definitely encouraging to hear. Hopefully I won't need to customize it at all, so I can just go to NH and pick it up.

EDIT: Wait, when you talk about a delay, do you mean a delay in Apple getting the laptops shipped to their stores, or a delay in Apple shipping it to me if I order it online?

Not really much information on the possible new MacBook Pro's?

Everything is always rumors until it actually comes out.

Is it worth the risk to drive a little over an hour to an Apple store at a major mall to get one of the new MBP's, assuming they come out tomorrow? I just hope they don't run out of stock, as it would be a total waste of a trip. Would it be in my best interest to call and beg them to hold me one?

MacMall or Amazon

Did anyone order a new macbook from MacMall or Amazon when they came out two weeks ago? Did they ship right away or was there a delay?

Do they often run out of newly updated computers like that? I was just planning on going to my store after work, but if they're gonna run out maybe I'll go during lunch.

I donno... but I'm gonna do it just to be on the safe side. Either way I'm calling in advance just to make sure they have it so I don't waste my time driving there to find out they don't have one.

True, but I am getting the feeling that the possible MacBook Pro release tomorrow is surrounded in more secrecy than as was the case with the last MacBook release. We still have no 'confirmed' specs while we did have that with the last MacBook release since about the Friday before...

Could it hence be that the update is bigger than anticipated?

Yeah, mines only 15 min away so its not a big deal for me. I can see how it would be to drive an hour...

or smaller and crappier with no LED (which would ruin my tuesday big time) and they don't want anyone whining if they released such a crappy update at WWDC
