Samsung 840 Pro SSD speed drop 80%

I am using Macbook Pro 15" early 2011. I've just upgrade to Yosemite from Mavericks, and found out that the write/read speed to Samsung 840 Pro SSD has drop to about 80M/s from where about 500M/s in Mavericks. Has anyone experienced the same?:(

Do you have TRIM enabled on it?

I noticed some windows lack rounded window corners like the copy windows. Also the right bottom corner of Finder windows isn't rounded. I remember this exact bug being present in a OS X Lion DP as well.

I have to admit, I kinda like the copy window without rounded corners. Looks more modern.

2013 iMac won't wake from sleep after machine is left for a few hours. Thought I'd fixed it with a SMC/PRAM reset but the problem returned. Have tried disabling powernap to see if that resolves the issue.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem. For some reason safari will froze my whole system from time to time.

Guess it's time to switch to chrome.

Been using only Chrome for the whole day now and no crashes so far. Seems like Safari has some sort of problem.

Hi Sandbox
I actually didn't change anything, but I checked the info. about the SSD as:

Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series:

Capacity: 128.04 GB (128,035,676,160 bytes)
Model: Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series
Removable Media: No
Detachable Drive: No
BSD Name: disk0
Medium Type: Solid State
TRIM Support: No
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
S.M.A.R.T. status: Verified

Am I suppose to do something about it?

Did you have TRIM enabled on your non-Yosemite installation?

Check this link out to enable it in Yosemite. It may help with your storage space problem and file garbage collection.

Yosemite SSD TRIM Fix for Low Read/Write Speed

Hi Sandbox again,

You have solved my problem, Greatly appreciated!!
I did a little research on enabling TRIM without using a 3rd party app and like to share with everyone here.

TRIM for SSD has to be enabled after updated to a newer OS, here is the way without using 3rd party tools:

This method has been tested on Macbook Pro OSX Yosemite v10.10

NOTE: Apply these steps ONLY after updated to OSX Yosemite, otherwise it may encounter boot problems

1. Open Terminal

2. Copy and Paste this and press Enter key:

sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

(If password asked, enter password and press Enter key, although sometimes the password does not show up when you're typing.)

3. Reboot your Mac

4. Open Terminal

5. Copy and Paste this exactly as the way it is and press Enter key :

sudo cp \
/System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage \
/System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage.original

6. Copy and Paste this exactly as the way it is and press Enter key :

sudo perl -p0777i -e 's@((?:Rotational|WakeKey\x0a)\x00{1,20})APPLE SSD(\x00{1,20}[QMT])@$1\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00$2@' \
/System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage

7. Copy and Paste:

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/

8. Reboot and Done!

Check "About This Mac" -> "System Report" ->"SATA" -> Click on Your SSD and "TRIM Support" should now shown "Yes".

Minor Tearing/Ghosting in Network Prefs

I see this if I click on the Network icon in System Prefs and then on the Advanced button. Anyone else?

So my menu bar notification center icon glitches on my profile and it doesn't work at all - cannot click on it. I created a new user profile to test it out and notification center works properly in that account. That means there is something specific in my regular profile that is causing this issue. Viewing the screen recording I captured, would anyone have an idea of how I could correct this?

I got the same when I choose both the "802.1X" tab and the "TCP/IP" tabs, but what's odd for me: dragging to select the screenshot area *wiped clean the second 'overlaid' image*... (wow.. a self-denying bug!)

OH-BY-THE-WAY: Finally got a wifi network while in Yosemite... without doing anything different.

I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro with Mavericks 10.9.4, and I'm running Yosemite Public Beta on an external FW drive.

In Yosemite, Airport looks and looks and looks for a network, but never finds one.

When I boot back into Mavericks, I can see networks and connect fine.

I *would * have reported via Feedback Assistant, but that only runs under 10.10, needs an internet connection, so how do I report?

Anyone know what to do?

You can save your report as a draft and submit it from 10.9. That is, if it will somehow sync without an Internet connection...

That's a good suggestion, but how would I send the draft in 10.9? Feedback Assistant will only run under 10.10. (I know, I tried to launch FeedbackAssistant.app from 10.9.4, and it said it needed 10.10 to run).

The only things I've noticed so far are visual glitches in various system preferences panes and when logging of. When I log off, rather than it fading to a black screen, it's like it 'freezes' before it fully fades out and I can still see my background.

On a 2009 27 inch iMac used the beta for a bit and found the "infrared" for the Apple remote stopped working. Hope it's a bug. Downgraded back to Mavericks. Anyone else have the sane issue?
