The entire system feels slower. Especially Safari. Safari is awful. Lag...lag...lag... Switching from one screen to another is dreadfully slow and generates a beach ball which it never did under Mavericks.

I'm fine with the feature and UI changes but the slowness is ridiculous.

Cheers,

Finder displays the original install language (which for me was Korean) for: Desktop, Download, Music, Movies, Photos. Even though I changed the primary language back to English, the sidebar reflects as Korean.

Screenshot Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9gqrwrtdmxu7ck6/Screen Shot 2014-10-23 at 1.49.21 PM.png?dl=0

The file open dialog box reflects everything in English and not Korean. Seems to be only Finder.

Same here. And relaunching finder or restarting the machine doesn't solve it.

Have you tried removing and re-adding the items in the Finder preferences (see image)? That did the trick for me.

Anyone else unable to change User name / Account name under Users & Groups? Just a blank area now? (blurred areas intentional btw :))

Had this on the Public Betas and now on a fresh, clean install.

EDIT: Scrap that, here's the fix for anyone interested :) http://www.dargadgetz.com/how-to-change-your-profile-username-in-os-x-yosemite/

Amazing. Now to change something as trivial as a name, you have to mess with advanced settings that could potentially break your account. :(

Wifi Issue

Hi, since I upgraded to Yosemite on my Macbook Pro late 2011, my wifi has been having issues. It shows connected to 5ghz, but when trying to browse in Safari or Firefox, it stops in the progress bar and won't connect. I have to restart my laptop in order to get it to connect again. Should I go back to Mavericks? I never had this issue on Mavericks. I have a Belkin N450 DB Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router, F9K1105 v2

Plus, I bought the iPhone 6 and it is also having connection issues for 5ghz. It wants to keep switching back to 2.4ghz. Any advice?

Cheers,

I had this issue. I cleared all caches and reset permissions. And it seemed to resolve the issue, you might want to check Activity Monitor and see if there are any apps that might not be playing well with Yosemite I had 2 apps that were just bogging down my system, once I got rid of them, things were alot snappier. Also I disabled transparency seemed to make things more responsive.

Just my 2cents.:apple:

Cache on all my browsers, correct? And where might I disable transparency?

You have to Clear extensions cache, system application cache, and user application cache. As for transparency just go to System Preferences > then Accessibility > then Display there your should be able to tweak it to your liking. (click on the box that says reduce transparency) As to clear caches I use OSx86Tools to do it, just Google it and the download link will come up for it. Enjoy.

Finder Issue

I've been having an issue with Finder. Icon text is either a garbled mess or blacked out like below. Also, sometimes icons don't show up at all. Force quitting Finder will fix the issue, but it comes back at random times. Very annoying.

Incredibly slow an unresponsive UI after system has been running for a while. I've disabled transparency and that seemed to result in a very minor improvement. However, the system is still near unusable after it's been up for a while. The only consistent way I've found to resolve the issue is to reboot the machine (which I don't want to do so frequently !). This is on a Mid 2012 15" rMBP; 2.6GHz core i7 and 16GB of RAM. I never experienced this type of slow, unresponsive and unusable UI in Mavericks. I really hope Apple is able to fix this.

Same here. I am running a Mid 2013 15" rMBP; 2.7 GHz core i7 and 16GB RAM. This machine was blazing fast on Mavericks and is grinding to a complete halt on Yosemite if I don't restart every 12-24 hours. Reducing transparency does not fix it either.

This is in addition to the very frustrating bug - menubar redraws every time I switch between displays, and produces a noticeable 3-4 second delay before switching focus to the new display.

Yosemite features are nice (particularly SMS from computer), but they are not worth the annoying lag that severely impedes workflow. I wish I hadn't upgraded.

Says it's from 2008. Is that right?

I think that's a general law of computer software: Later versions take more time to run, if you don't update the hardware.

I bought a used MacBook made in late 2009 last August, and I've updated the OS twice since then (from some animal to Mavericks to Yosemite). I'm doubting whether I should upgrade to 10.11 or 11.0 when it comes out, even if the hardware can take it.

(One last comment. Shouldn't OSX be pronounced "Austin"? Forgive me if this joke has been made a hundred times already ...)

If you upgraded from Mavericks, I'd suggest doing a clean install.
If you didn't then I would post feedback about your issue directly with Apple.
Artifacts in graphics are related to either a hardware issue or a kext isn't settling right. Most of the time these issues get resolved with a clean install. I would still report them to Apple, so that when .1 comes out they can include a fix when they roll that update. When kernel_task was killing my memory back on Beta 4 I reported the **** out if it, now the issue is non-existent.

Time Machine incorrect space requiremnts

In Yosemite, first occasion on which Time Machine runs after my photos disk has been mounted; TMs required space calculation includes data already backed up not just the delta. However, when it runs the backup it only copies the delta.

Why is this important?

A. If the incorrect calculation is more that the free space on the TM drive then it will start deleting backups - so all my Mavericks backups were destroyed:mad:
B. TM won't auto-delete the most recent backup, so if the incorrect calculation plus the size of the latest pre-existing backup is greater than the size of the TM volume then you have to initialise the TM disk and start again - goodbye backups and I'm now into day three of rebuilding the first backup under Yosemite:(

How about this for arithmetic...

247KB of files to back up - 450GB required:eek:; only 30MB actually backed up - the 30MB is correct

My list of issues

Thought I'd share my list of issues. I have done two installs. The first is on my Mac Pro in which I did a full format then clean install, and the 2nd to my MBA in which I just did an upgrade. They share very similar issues despite the different install type and hardware.

Network:
Both have an identical network issue. My SO and I share the computer and each have a user account. Both accounts persistently drop the network connection which can be revived either by switching to the other user account or a full reboot. The MBA does it over WiFi but my Mac Pro only has ethernet. The behavior is similar enough between the two of them that'd it appears safe to call it the same issue. I know that WiFi complaints abound for 10.10, but it appears to affect eth as well, at least for me. I have tried all of the solutions around the internet (kill BT, eliminate the sys configs folder, make a network location, numerous terminal commands) to no avail. My assumption is that it is related to the multiple accounts…

Preferences:
Random preferences are not persistent when switching between accounts or on reboot. I.e., on the Mac Pro, any time I switch back to my account, I have to reset the mouse scrolling preference away from natural scroll. On each log-in, it goes back.

On the MBA, the default printer will not remain a default on either account. Set a default, switch user, come back, no default.

I have repaired permissions on multiple occasions and each time it finds a permission error related to the print drivers. Perhaps only coincidentally, the only software update that App Store has found since upgrade to 10.10 was on print drivers. Perhaps related…

I think my next plan will be to wipe both and reinstall with only a single user account. Lame.

Any thoughts from anybody?? Hurray for early adopting!!

tl;dr: i have network issues and preferences issues. similar issues on a clean install to a mac pro w/o wifi as to an MBA with wifi. multiple user accounts as the culprit is my working hypothesis. any thoughts appreciated.

Safari Private Window: Facebook Login Session

I'm facing a bug with revamped private browsing of Safari 8.0 on Yosemite appstore build. In private window the facebook login in only valid in the tab that you have logged in. When you open another facebook link using "Open in other private tab" it asks you to login again in new tab? Is it a bug?

This happened with an upgrade from Mavericks and again with a clean install. It's just so random that I can't peg what's causing it. I have reported the issue to Apple. Hopefully, they can figure out whats wrong.

Some of having slowness try the free program EtreCheck and tun it. If some thing turns up read try to manually delete it or update it. Don't worry because in will display the path to the incompatible item to delete, etc.

I had similar problems too on an upgrade install. I didn't get the blacked out names as you have, but the garbled text and the missing icons were a major pain in the ass. Once the garbled text showed up, it didn't let me navigate to any other folder unless I force quit. Between this and the battery life/heat, I had to go back to Mavericks. Going to wait for the next update before I even think of upgrading.

Yep, pretty much the same thing. I'm very much considering going back to Mavericks until there's an update.

There are processes running that constantly take up >75% CPU usage. The culprits are "fseventsd" and "launchd". Once, they stopped and my Late 2011 MacBook Pro was fin, but since yesterday they are running and my fans are on full speed constantly. My Wi-Fi connection also drops every five minutes requiring me to turn Wi-Fi off/on to get the connection back

I have to keep entering my passwords on sites I belong to everyday, my screen saver images are all blurry, Copy and pasting images no longer work like Mavericks previously I could just copy a photo and paste to emails but not anymore which is a real inconvienence.

Did a clean install and the issue is gone. Thank you everyone who tested it and advised about a clean install.

Now if only the cursor delay bug was gone :(

I had crazy bad delay/slowness with the magic mouse and my mid 2012 MacBook Pro, i use Magic Prefs to speed it up a bit. Works great for me, and I'm also running 10.10 :)

Also on Mavericks you could be listening to music or watching a video and a FaceTime call comes in or Skype call and the music or video would automatically mute so you could answer the calls but not anymore you have to flip to the window and mute or pause manually.

I have been using a Mac now for just 4 years but this is the worst OSX I have experienced, all the other releases and upgrades have been great.

Very disappointed Apple you should slow down and go back to quality assurance and stop rushing everything.
