Cannot open Chrome after installing Yosemite

I installed Yosemite on my iMac and now Chrome crashes upon opening. The browser appears very briefly then it closes and the 'Browser quit unexpectedly' window appears (beginning of error detail below in case it is of any help). I tried setting 'Show scroll bars' to Always and it did not help, also uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome more than once. Thanks for any advice.

Edit: Other programs that are crashing on opening: MS Word 2008, MS Word 2011, TextWrangler, Spotify. I even got an error that the error reporting program quit unexpectedly.

Crashes (unexpected quits) of Google Chrome 38.0.2125.111 on Yosemite

Cannot open Chrome after installing Yosemite

I wondered whether an update was appropriate, 38.0.2125.111 is current.

Your post includes not enough from the crash report to guess a cause.

For a bug that may require more detailed analysis, I suggest seeking (or starting) a separate topic with a suitable subject line. Maybe similar to the subject of this post.

First, though, see whether the crashes are reproducible when OS X is started in safe mode.

I issued these bugs:
  • My Touchpad 4 fingers gestures suddenly stop working
  • Suddenly Sleep, Restart and Shutdown options stop working (I have to shut it down from power button  )
  • Some Apps freeze's and Force Quite can't quite them, and its not showing on Activity monitor or "top" command, but they appear as running on Dock (Also, I have to shutdown my mac from power button )
  • Set As Desktop Picture not working
  • Drag & Drop in Safari Bookmarks Editor sometimes stops working
    EDIT:
  • Automatic update disabled in System Preferences but "softwareupdated" process keeps consuming my internet

My Machine: MBP 13' Late 2011, i5 2.4

Safe mode - Word, TextWrangler ok. Chrome different behavior.

Thank you for your advice. The other apps came up ok in safe mode. Chrome came up but the initial page kept flashing. I applied the stable channel update to Chrome. It still crashed in regular mode - I saved error output and will post separately as you suggested. In safe mode Chrome 38.0.2125.111 comes up, but any webpage refreshes several times when accessed.

Some apps are not properly auto-quitting.

For example: If I use TextEdit or Preview, then simply close text file / image file (close without Command-Q or Menu Bar > Quit) the apps don't auto-quit as they properly should. This usually causes noticeable performance degradation issues [beach balls] when trying to use different apps (especially Safari) immediately after "closing" those and I think few other apps that also exhibit similar auto-quitting error behavior.

Force Quit shows TextEdit + Preview open, but clearly see in the Dock they are definitely not actually in use.

Yosemite Graphic Glitch

Hey ya'll,

I'm using a early 2011 15" Macbook Pro, Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB

Last November I had something replaced because my system would randomly shut off and 25% of the time I booted up in Bootcamp to run windows the screen would be all over the place kind of Like the pic I posted below.

Everythings been gravy until I downloaded Yosemite. Now my whole comp runs slower and when I open up my laptop 1 of 3 things happen

1 - It works normally
2 - Screens black for about 30 secs with working cursor then I'm prompted to the login screen
3 - Screens black for about 30 secs with working cursor then the screen is all glitched (see pic)

Odd thing is only the BG img is messed up and not the login field or the profile img.

Anyone else having this problem?

I only have about 2 weeks left on my warranty, i'm taking it in regardless for a diagnosis. But as a game developer I can't part with my machine for too long, last time it was 3 weeks. I'm not sure if its time to pull the trigger on a new machine.

I know there's a class lawsuit being filed against Apple for issues regarding the logic board, but I'm not sure if this is the case with my laptop.

Thanks in advance

Cheers,

Bugs beyond compare

I downloaded OS X Yosemite about week ago and now my mid-2011 iMac is practically incapable of being used I am now using a mid-2007 Macbook which (thankfully) isn't compatible with this new OS X or I'd be in major trouble. It lags severally after about a half hour of use after restart. Finder is constantly not responding to the point that I have to manually shut down (press and hold down button) and leave off for a few hours before I can use it again only to come across the same issues. I have also tried checking for updates but also to no avail. It is taking DAYS to empty out my trash can. For example I've been trying to empty a grand total of 69 items from my trash bin... Several hours later I've still got 68 items left to remove... It isn't compatible with Java yet so I can not do my online classwork... Since I go to school online this is VERY bad. I'm starting to wish I stayed with Maverick. At least it worked better than this. If anyone has found any fixes for these issues please let me know. And if not hopefully these issues will be resolved with the next OS X update.

Hi,

no offense here, the problem is your computer, not Yosemite.

I suggest you install and run "Maintenance" (for Yosemite).
Use all the default options + check the "Trash" tick box if you need.

Then restart (first boot will be slower because some cache files were deleted).
Use the computer for say 5 to 10 mn, then restart, see how it goes, and please report back.

For info how much RAM do you have, and how much free space on your disk ?

(Maintenance will check the disk, repair the permissions, clear caches, empty the trash, etc..)

I'm having the exact same thing, and when looking around it appears others do too. I don't think that it is radeongate as like you, it is only the background login screen that is the problem. Its liveable but still a little worrying,

Yes!

Is anyone else getting their whole computer crashing when browsing via Safari?

Had it happen to me twice now. Sent off the crash reports to Apple, but I think i'll file a bug too. This happened twice when I only had three tabs open (all static pages, no video)

I can't tell if it's related to safari attempting to produce a notification or the usual problem of trying to load flash and the thing hangs and requires a power cycle to the machine responsive again.

Real problem, really needs to be fixed.

Mail/keychain password issues

… Unless I reboot periodically MAIL will not remember the CORRECT passwords from the key chain and keep repeatedly asking me for passwords I already know are correct.

Now this problem is complicated by the fact that often its an issue with AOL or Yahoo servers, but REALLY, can no one figure this out and make it work 24/7?

If you're security wise like me, you have different passwords for various email accounts, so this bug is truly maddening to me and worse in Yosemite than in Mavericks. I've even seen this bug in Leopard, but it got better, and like many things with Apple, then got worse again. :(

First use Keychain Access to verify the chain.

Then seek any duplicates.

Whilst you're there, consider deleting any expired certificates.

Every software upgrade shouldn't require this, ESPECIALLY when I'm just RE-ENTERING the same valid passwords.

Keychain Access works fine, once again multiple reboots, repair disk permissions, blah blah blah.

It just should not be necessary.

I find it a little hard to believe that it is the computer. It never had problems like that before. The problems only started to occur AFTER the install for the new OS.

And I have 4 GB Ram and more than half of my 1TB HD freed up.

I will say that I did some stuff with the Disk Utility and it works a little better now. So I still stand by that it isn't the computer. I haven't done too much with it since I fixed some things through disk utility but I'll use it later to see if things are really fixed or not.

I have Yosemite installed on several disks/partitions, both by clean install and by upgrade.

I do not have the problems you have.

Did you use "Maintenance" ?

Yes it shows.
I got it fixed somehow. Lol. I don't know how I did it. I copied the drive in Disk Utility because I was trying to Restore if that would do anything. It did!

Video sharing

Video sharing problems have been covered, but one problem I think has not.

I have the original first edition iPad and that receives shared video OK, EXCEPT the icon for the video is not the correct one for the Title displayed underneath it which links to the correct video whereas the icon does not.

I also have an iPadAir 2. No icons, but generally nothing at all - same on the iPhone 5

Apple TV works fine. Thank God something does:confused:
