I will install a nvme also but for the other sata ssd: I want to make them faster. I need speed for music production…
In that case I'd go for NVMe and never look back...I need speed for music production…
So if I want to install a sata3 card on pcie and a nvme pcie card (normal 1500mb/s) I could go for a normal 20$ card on Amazon? I wouldn’t need an expensive sonnet… or a raid card to get 6200mb/s…In that case I'd go for NVMe and never look back...
You don't want to go cheap with the card.So if I want to install a sata3 card on pcie and a nvme pcie card (normal 1500mb/s) I could go for a normal 20$ card on Amazon? I wouldn’t need an expensive sonnet… or a raid card to get 6200mb/s…
Mac goes sleep normally, but sometimes can do cold boot instead of normal wake and give me the KP log. Sleep duration doesn't matter: can run into KP right away, can wake up normally after many hours.3rd party NVMe controller. PCI link down. Delete IO submission queue.
Ok i understand. i didnt know that nvme can get hot... But the icy box is with a good cooling. Amazon rewievs said.You don't want to go cheap with the card.
You need one with decent cooling.
Refer page 1.
A decent heatsink is sufficient.One thing i wanted to ask.. i know i could connect a fan for the nvme on top but wouldnt it be always on 100percent fan speed? sorry for my english
Yes, since about 12 years ago.cMP could also install a 2½" FF SSD, like a Samsung 870 Eco. That just plugs in like a regular HHD into one of the drive bays with an adapter like this:
ORICO 2.5 SSD SATA to 3.5 Hard Drive Adapter Internal Drive Bay Converter Mounting Bracket Caddy Tray for 7 / 9.5 / 12.5mm 2.5 inch HDD / SSD with SATA III Interface(1125SS)

Another option to use 2.5" drives in cMP bays if you happen to own a 3D printer :cMP could also install a 2½" FF SSD, like a Samsung 870 Eco. That just plugs in like a regular HHD into one of the drive bays with an adapter like this:

Welcome!Late to the party I know but that's the story of my life!
Adding a 12-Core 2010 Mac Pro to my 'collection' and I know I will end up reading this thread from start to finish but in the meantime I would like to ask a question first if I may?
Am thinking of installing a Samsung 970 EVO Plus on a Silverstone PCIe->NVMe M.2 adaptor as a boot/system drive and have seen that later Samsung drives are now compatible. I also have some spare 850/860/870 standard SSD's kicking around and plan to install them in the drive bays using the OWC Mount Pro which look cool. My questions are as follows;
1. Is this combination a good choice?
2. How does it rank up there for reliability/performance etc. or would I be advised to look at something else instead?
3. Is there a preference for which slot the adaptor card is fitted into? Wouldn't waste the only x16 slot left after fitting the graphics card but does either of the two x4 slots have a priority or might be better suited to a boot drive?
4. Would this combo run OK under 10.13.6 High Sierra? Asking because my oldest iMac is stuck on High Sierra and I would like to keep them on the same OS if possible. Unless there's a huge advantage in 10.14-> of course!
End of questions...
Thanks & kind regards,

Personally I'm not sure about the quality of this Silverstone card.... and without a heatsink you may cook your blade.The Silverstone card looks like this and so has a single blade but no heatsink it would seem;

Which means additional costs or... buy a quality product for the same price.
An all time favorite is the Aquacomputer m2 KRYO (EVO).
Enjoy the classic Mac Pro , IMHO a milestone in the history of (Mac) computers : )
Please read the first post of this thread.Thanks for the reply and the welcome KMP,
1 & 2. Yeah the SSD's are all EVO's so I should be good to go then. ?
3 & 4. I'll cast my eye over it when I get round to getting hands-on. I have designed/built many PC's over the years and have been into Mac since 2011 so looking forward to opening up that gorgeous chassis and having a play!

I've already ploughed through the first few pages in this thread but sometimes I start from the newest post and work backwards as things evolve over time.
I need to go take a look at the GPU thread now...
Thanks again.

Thanks for taking the time to reply tsialex.Please read the first post of this thread.
Btw, without a heatsink you will overheat your 970EVO+ to the point of voiding the warranty the first time you install macOS on it.
