It's a nice photo, but the flash kinda takes away from it. But I personally dislike flash in pretty much any photo.

I do kind of agree with you. When I got home the flash on the wheat was stronger than I though it would be. Not sure I could have done it without the flash though. I'm pretty new to photography and don't really know of any other way I could have got this photo without something to light the foreground. Without the flash I would have had a wheat silhouette.

Well, you've captured some of the chaos of big city life, if only by firing off the camera almost at random. But saying you're "no photographer", then posting half a dozen pix, is like saying you can't play guitar, yet still struggling through every damn verse of 'House of the Rising Sun'... ;)

Going for a more natural look than usual. "No editing blah blah blah look at me " Nah just kidding. Just thought I'd get some practice in before I use up my film.

Tree Removal

I was walking to class today and I walked past this pretty neat looking house on Benefit Street. Anyways, there was a leafless tree spread across the right side of the picture. I spent some time removing the branch. This is my first time doing anything like this, let me know what you think or if its obvious. Thanks for looking!

I think the lighting (from the flash) makes that photo. You couldn't have gotten that lighting balance without it.

Could the flash be stopped down a little, maybe, but I think you could tone down the wheat a little without too much difficulty in Photoshop.

I really like the image, really nice composition and really good eye for the scene.

Thanks Pete!

Here is another photo from the same shoot that uses the same technique.

Wherever I hang my hat...

It's a snapshot... in that you didn't give too much thought about composition. Maybe moving round to get a less cluttered background (or homing in to put the background out of focus). Move in to get a portrait... or move back to put a figure in a context. This is kind of in the middle (chopping a bit of shoe off)...

With the lad already a couple of feet off the ground, I'd have gone for a close-up (head 'n' shoulders), 'cos that avoids 'looking down' when photographing kids.

Skyler: great name...
