Another night shot from my Brighton trip. The night sky certainly makes for an easy distraction-free background.

This is an awesome shot!
_______

One from an outing today, came across some horses with the sun right behind them, so got a nice bit of lens flare! I know lens flares not everyones cup of tea, but i love it!

If its good enough for Abrams I don't see why you can't do it. I like it.

Mine for today. Didn't get out this weekend so had a play with my extension tubes a bit. I prefer the one over in this weeks photo competition thread, but liked the look of this candle holder to. Comments always welcome.

Great sunset in the UK today.

Pity I only ended up taking one shot on my Hasselblad as I was just a fraction too late for the sun.

I should add that this is the iPhone shot! Hasselblad will come when I finish the roll!

If anything...a very small fraction Archie. Great composition and colour. I like that way you've use Flo to block what could have been a clipped highlight and at the same time, added a lot of interest to the shot.

Long time lurker, first time poster! There are some amazing photos in these photo of the day threads!

Recently brought a canon 700d, so thought I'd join in the fun!

Here's one from today, had a trip down to Devon. Any tips and feedback is always welcome, I know I've got a lot to learn!

The exposure is good considering the bright background. I'd have not centered the subject though- the empty space on the left at the top really doesn't balance the composition or provide anything positive to the shot. I'd suggest trying to put your main subjects on the "rules of 3rds" lines until you're comfortable enough to break that rule for good reasons, at least in 1-3 shots of each subject and see what does and doesn't work for what you're shooting.

Checking out the distortion and learning to use my new tilt-shift lens today while the boys attended a geeks day at the local university! This is the end result of three exposures in landscape format, which are shifted to rise and fall, allowing me to get the upper and lower bits in too.

I like anything on a budget! I like the DOF in this from the head to the vase. The quality seams good (at least to my eyes).
I think the flower is past its best though!

Thanks, AF! It was definitely on its last legs when I cut it to bring inside. The focal plane I was playing with was running across the flower and up to a small statuette in the background, which I cropped out.

Camera Club

I see a lot of people posting about how to do different things with their cameras...I joined a local camera club which has a nice mix of professionals and amateurs. I has been a big help with my photography. I used Meetup to find a club locally. This pic is a shout out to my fellow club members.

From a few weeks ago … I hadn't thought about trying this location , having taken it many times in the past , and knowing that , at this time of the year , I'd be shooting into the midday sun . Anyway , it happened that the sun was behind the big building at center , so took some time and played around some before going off to do the business that I really came to Manhattan for .

Giant Sequoias

PHD_1961-L.jpg

I went to see the Giant Sequoias in Mariposa Grove, Yosemite. It's was a humbling experience that's hard to put into perspective through photographs or words.

The largest tree in the grove is the "Grizzly Giant" (not pictured). At approximately 2,000 years old and 8.5 m (28 ft) in diameter at the base, it looks very surreal - like some out of a Spielberg movie.

Two things crossed-off my bucket list in one trip…Yosemite and the Giant Sequoias. :)

A drive by shot from a trip a while ago. There are cools cars to be found on rural highways on sunny days ;)

The combination of primary colors in this shot really stood out for me! Well done! Love it.

----------

Something entirely different from me.

Been a slow couple of weeks, shootingwise, as work has kept me from getting out there too often. But I went down to the beach yesterday to take a go at shooting some action (as opposed to my usual landscapes).

More to come from this session. C&C always welcome. It was my first go at surfing shots. And this was heavily cropped (even the 70-200 was not really up to the task here). But it was fun nevertheless.

I can't even begin to imagine the size of the squirrels!

A bit of action for a change. You should do this stuff more often. You have an eye for it based on this shot.
