Sunset over the Aegean Sea. This ranks as the most beautiful place I have visited so far. Maybe it was just my timing, but there was never a dull moment, it's like nature and people collided in the most perfect way to create scenery that is awe inspiring, no matter if you look at the unspoiled landscapes or the built up villages.

That's a beautiful shot. You could go there 50 times more and never get that cloud and sea combination. That's what I love about photography. It is just about capturing the moment in the place you are at.

I took it, but shooting landscapes (and especially sunsets and sunrises) in the Cyclades kind of feels like cheating. It's just so beautiful that I feel like even my best efforts to capture it barely scratch the surface. The damn airfare was so expensive from Toronto, you guys in the UK can have it all so much faster and easier, I'm positively jealous.

This is the same location as the previous sunset shot, but from a slightly different point. It's a church at the top of a hill in the middle of a village. A small courtyard of the church is facing west towards the sea, opening up to views like in the photo from yesterday.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, consider Greece as your next destination ;)

Lucky find...

On my way out, I found this little guy sitting on a fence trying to get warm. I ran back inside, grabbed my D700 and fortunately he was still there when I got back. He allowed me to get fairly close, but eventually flew away as I got too close for comfort.

Buzzard

First pic, be kind - trying out the posting procedure.

Not brilliant pic taken quickly on the long end of a 100-400 but I liked the way the setting sun lit up the underside as it soared gracefully overhead.

One thing that sticks out to me straight off is the composition.

You have this large expanse of blue so cropping shouldn’t be that much of an issue (especially if this is currently not cropped).

Depending on what image editor you are using try playing around with different compositional overlays to see what would look good.

Took the lad down to Port Willunga, South Australia, for some landscape captures as he is really interested in this. Also did some shots to show him the reason I don't normally shoot past f/11. This is shot at f/16 and illustrates the degrading of imagery nicely for him. He was quite surprised as to how soft the image gets, considering it's a hallowed "L" series lens! His Lumix mirrorless at f/5.6 - f/8 is much sharper!
