This was a scenario for one of the Mindful Photography groups in regards to how -even though this scene is probably 20 metres in length- you can actually (almost) achieve focus throughout it at the wide open end of the aperture, because of being a few metres away from the focal point of the first grass on the left. Those on the little M43 sensors achieved focus throughout at f/4.5, the APSC sensor bodies got the same results as me, as I was using one of them for this session.

You might be right there mate... It took 20mins to walk there
Why does this come to mind as to the possible reason it took so long to get there? Must have been the fifth beer, Ken! ;)

Stagger, crawl, roll...

Another owl from the streets of Auckland. This one has a nice camera.

There are 47 of these dotted around Auckland, so I have may more to find and photograph. They are to be auctioned off to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation, so all for a good cause. https://www.thebighoot.co.nz/

The city of Baltimore has done this twice in the past, place sculptures around the city for some period of time and then later auction them off to raise funds. In 2001 it was fish and in 2005 crabs (this part of the world being known for blue crabs in particular). I read recently the powers that be are considering doing it again but with birds the next time around (local professional teams are the Orioles [baseball] and the Ravens [American football] and there is the Edgar Allan Poe connection). Anyway, here is a shot of one of the auctioned off crabs but it is not nearly as nice as your owls.

Is there a particular connection between owls and Auckland?

We had owls in Birmingham. I'm not sure why.

Unfortunately not! Someone (a pair of artists) just thought it would be a cool idea, again for fundraising.

I find the inclusion of human arms a bit weird, but that's just me. It's an interesting idea for fundraising, and obviously very effective.

Each crab were definitely unique outside of the shape of the body. This being Baltimore that weird thing is considered somewhat normal around here and hence some of the oddball pictures I've posted here the last couple of years. I have to admit I kinda like it. (Hmm, does this make me a little weird too? Wait, don't any of you answer that!)

I like. Which software?

Thanks, AFB. I bought some B&W presets from Gavin Seim (http://seimeffects.com/silver) several years ago and he has upgraded them since. They are presets for Lr, but they give you the ability to adjust and change the various applicatios he uses such as the radial and gradient filters, etc. You can keep adding on, like layers, various applications to the photo. It's very flexible. I had NIK SE Pro and used it for years but I am very happy with this. Who knows when the new NIK Collection will be released by DxO.

Interestingly, I also use these presets from Gavin Seim in Lightroom, and my post above was edited using the latest version, as a base to start with and then further tweaks to refine it! :D

I was listing some stuff on Ebay this evening, with mostly just standard product shots. I managed to get what I thought was a really neat photo of the pentaprism on the camera.

Nikon D200, f/16. Flash via a couple Norman strobes on a 1250 pack and fired through 36" white shoot-through umbrellas.

No, I don’t know why they chose owls. You would think they might have chosen kiwi, or another native bird. We do have a native owl, the Morepork, so perhaps that is where the inspiration came from?

Yet a third Nor'easter is about to hit my area in less than 3 weeks. I guess it's payback for the 70 degree weather we had 3 weeks ago. Last weeks Nor'easter, (on Wednesday night) I lost power at 12:30am and had to get to a hotel as I have medical devices that require electricity. Didn't get power back until Friday night. Lots of trees and poles came down due to the heavy snow. Now, I'm getting ready to go back to another hotel. Over a foot of snow is expected with near blizzard conditions at times. I really wish I could stay home and take pictures. But I've got to put my health first. I will say that when my husband I and came home Thursday morning just to get extra medical stuff and snacks, it was really pretty with all the snow on the trees. I wanted to snap some photos, but the house was freezing! And I was living on no sleep as we didn't get settled in our room until 4am.

I thought I'd post this photo today as to what is coming tomorrow. Maybe I will be able to snap a few photos at the hotel if I can...will see how my breathing is.

Wavy snow.

Hmm, I have been looking at this one, and if I had taken it, I would be happy with it but as you have set such a high standard for your recent work, I feel the there is no obvious subject it is just not coming across to me. I don't know, no offence and this is not a dig for the stagger video... :)

Just, not one of your best my friend.
