Me too, then I thunked it was an old Singer sewing machine, then it clicked that it is a car!

It is indeed a car.
Retail park....and the only thing that took my fancy was a baked potato & beans.
Not as dramatic as some of the examples in your link, but I took an iPhone pic of the setup for two images I shared last month. For the first image I placed a black cloth on the ground to cover up the blue tarp and firewood to make the background black without distracting elements. For the second I used a wider angle lens and shot closer to the ground (and the subject) to take the tarp/firewood out of the composition (hiding them behind the subject).
The lighting setup and exposure was the same for both--main light coming from the flash through the umbrella with the lens stopped down to f/16 to both increase the plane of sharpness around the subject (i.e. depth of field) and to diminish the effects of the ambient light on the background.

That would be the shot that makes National Geographic!
It's actually a Fulmar. With it's thick heavy body, it does look a bit like a penguin - in my shot anyway. Fulmars are sea birds that resemble gulls.

Just a fly in the garden. I was actually there photographing leaves in the sunlight when he landed in front of me.
