Wild Rose And Wind Belt

Photo taken in a garden on Malta late September 2007.
I don’t know the name of the flower. Is there anyone who knows?
(I wish only that the background would just be a more green and blurry)🙂

A thought on this one. If you cropped it square you could eliminate that almost in focus leaf on the right side. That said I do really like this shot for the lighting on the flower.

Usually considered the to be the section of Highway 550 running from Silverton to Ouray, Colorado. Supposedly cost over a million dollars to build in the 1880s. Others extend that as far south as Durango Colorado, and even as far north as Montrose, CO. Definitely worthy of a few days of your time in the fall.

I know I've talked about the Burmis tree when posting images of other Limber Pines. Here is the actual tree. Note the crutch that helps to keep it standing against some rather ferocious winds which are a trade mark of Southern Alberta. As always best viewed at full resolution.

I know I could just look this up on Google, but it’s just more rewarding to have interaction. What is the Million Dollar Highway?
There is a highway (U.S. 550) that runs from Bernallilo, NM (just north of Albuquerque) to Farmington, Durango, CO, Silverton, Ouray and all the way to Montrose, CO. The 25 mile section of the highway 550 that runs between Silverton. CO to Ouray, CO is a scenic byway that is called the "Million Dollar Highway." (Actually I think the entire stretch from Durango to Telluride should be called that.)

Is it called that due to the value of the land, or the scenery?

It’s called that because it cost a million dollars a mile to build!

I did not know that. I always thought it was because of the million dollar views! But it makes sense.

I believe I’ve been on that highway before, many years ago as a child. My older brother knew he wanted to be a geologist when he was in grade school, and planned our family road trip routes at a rather young age. He managed to take us past many amazing sites.

This is the actual Columbus statue c1892 at Columbus circle during restoration - it's in its original position above 59th Street. During restoration, Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi built an exhibit at the top around the statue: a luxury apartment complete in every detail, including a coffee table with Columbus apparently standing on top of it.
