Fantastic shot Mr Doylem, once again you have timed your shot to perfection for the light.
(I was very impressed with your site)
Here's one of Arran that I took from the Irvine shore yesterday evening.
Thanks, Steamie. Do you get across to Arran much? It was such a fun trip, a couple of weeks ago, and very relaxing.
Wild Boar Fell...
All the great landscapes in this thread got me thinking about what makes someone like a photo. There's the technical stuff making sure it's exposed and lit propery, and of course framing, but with landscapes I started to wonder if it's just a matter of the level of "strangeness" to a particular viewer. For example, I live in Michigan. We have lots of pretty woods and trees and streams and whatnot, but looking at shots of that sort of environment sort of bores me, even if it's a great picture, because I see that everyday. It's mundane to me.
But even a mediocre shot of a desertscape, or some mountains, or the ocean are all wonderous and beautiful, which I think is because I don't see them all the time. It takes me away to a different place. Maybe someone who lives in Arizona is transported away to the woods of Michigan with a photograph and that's enjoyable for them.
Dunno, just idle thoughts. Maybe the key to being a successful photographer is to get shown in galleries in far off places - bring your home to them, don't travel around bringing strange places back home with you.

Couldn't agree more. I find it very difficult to take pictures of my home city (Toronto), because it is all so familiar to me; I have trouble seeing the uniqueness of my city, whereas I can take pictures in other cities all day long and never tire of it.
Kevin, i just had to stop and say that you have refined your skill as a photographer so much that you could do this for a living. I went through your ENTIRE flickr portfolio and saw how your skill evolved, beginning with a rebel xti and some pringle cans. You are a true inspiration to me.

I agree 100% with Carlos, you should be doing this full time, your photostream just gets better and better all the time
Marvelous night for a moon dance...
