So ... found myself in southern Utah last week ; be prepared for some crappy landscapes .

That's a good shot. I think it may need a bit of post-processing due to the altitude, but a great composition.

Here's one I took in May 2011 of Dead Horse Point

Canon EOS 7D, 24mm, f/20, 1/13th sec. ISO 100 on a tripod. Shot was taken at sunset, and we drove like hell to get there from Moab before the sun dropped below the horizon!

A bit too windy on this one for my liking. Still what do you think?

In the spirit of offering constructive criticism, it looks nice, but a bit uninteresting. Perhaps if you lightened the dark trees or somehow emphasized the sky the photo would have a bit more interest. There's no color or bright spot that would attract the eye or serve as the subject of the photo.

Crappy eh? I wish I took "crappy" photos like this:rolleyes:. I also wish I could find myself in maybe Montana or Wyoming..some day. Beautiful shot. Can't wait to see more. Cheers

Thanks ... I was also at DHP the night before I took this shot having done the run down from Salt Lake City airport and before checking into where I was staying in Moab . Unfortunately there was big time haze in the lowlands at both the Point and Canyonlands , was unhappy with almost anything I took that night . Still had the haze a bit in the A.M. as you can see,
but it was a doable situation . Really wanted to get the 'red rocks' , but it wasn't going to happen at Canyonlands for me.

First outing with the M. The build and image quality is just incredible for the price. However the lack of a viewfinder is something I'm not sure I can get used to, which is a shame.

OK, I'll bite. Here's my contribution from a picture I took in 2011 at sunrise

So I checked another item off of my geologists bucket list - I went into a magma chamber under a volcano in Iceland! The small hole at the top is the neck that we descended through. The color of the rocks is from alteration.

I found out about this place just the other day when a friend told me about it. It immediately went on my bucket list too; awesome that you've done it!

'Nother pile of rocks . Taken midday near the Shafer Trail overlook in Canyonlands N.P.
The road down below is Shafer Trail,or maybe part of White Rim Road , and it snakes it's way up the mesa through a series of hairpin turns . You don't want to drive it in your rented Chevy .

Someoldguy - captures the desolation of these desert places beautifully. Composition somewhat reminded me of this pano from the Grand Canyon from 2007 on my Canon 30D. Comments always welcomed.
