Thanks very much! Nothing too complicated - the details just to refer to the printing setup.

Ilford Pearl 11x8.5 (The brand of paper, its texture and size)
LPL C7700 Enlarger (The enlarger used)
140Mag (Grade 4) 0 Yellow/ 0 Blue (Filter Mixing. The more Magenta, the higher the contrast, the more yellow, the greater amount of midtones)
Elevation 33.5 (Height of Enlarging Head. Gives Idea to the degree of Enlargement)
9secs Overall Paper exposure, with 4sec central dodge (The amount of time the paper was exposed to light. I had to dodge the main content, (give less light) other wise it would have been too dark.

Basically all that stuff is a guide for me when i want to print images exactly the way i did before. Good to know all the film stuff, as it gives you an understanding where all the PS techniques come from :).

Glad you liked it. Heres another.

Similar set up, just a little less dodging, mainly up the arm.

Bleached, and then sepia toned. No digital manip. :)

^^Beautiful photography, but IMHO the subject matter is a bit much considering we have minors here. No offense meant.

Amazing shot again, your photos have a certain kubrick feeling to them!

And thanks for the explanation, it doesn't feel good using PS every day for like, half of my life and not knowing where some tools came from. Time for a good book.

Anyway here is my photo of the day. Taken yesterday morning in my backyard. And i promise not to post any more spiders pics for a while!! :D

Thanks for the feedback! Amazing shot of the spider. I have never thought to reverse a 50mm, upon a macro, what's your experiences using this setup? Very interesting!

As with the tools - yeah, it made me smile, when I first realised exactly why Adobe used a hand and the wand for the burn and dodge tools! I find now, i cna actually be more creative in the darkroom, than on PS, at least when it comes to b&w.

I reverse the 50mm prime upon my 18-55 kit lens as i don't have a real macro yet. This gives me 1.1-1 magnification which is great but a bit difficult to focus as the DOF is tiny as you can see in the photo, the spider was a few mm's.

The other bad thing is that you have to be about 1cm from your subject to focus correctly and this is the biggest challenge with bugs. But I'll be getting the EF 100mm macro in about a month or so, and the working distance of that will seem like heaven!

I don't know if a real macro lens will give the same or more DOF as this setup since i've never used one. But when reversing i've found that the f-stop doesn't change the DOF much, even at f22 the spider was not completely in focus.

I'll also get a coupler and reverse the 50mm on the 100mm macro which will take me to 2:1 and hopefully have an acceptable working distance too.
