Finally upgraded to a dslr today. I Have spent the last few months reading reviews, testing cameras and browsing forums and eventually decided to go the Pentax route. Anyway , the sun only came out for a short while so I ran down to the harbour (about 2 miles form my house) and snapped a couple of trial shots, still learning how to use it but so far I love it.

pop-up flash, DIY diffuser, tripod used as monopod

I often use my tripod as a monopod. It seems a great way to stabilise and yet stay mobile. About a month ago I bought a sweet little Slik with a nice ball head, and this combo has been serving me well.

ps: dllavaneras I really like your portrait of Marie. The picture gives me that odd feeling of deja vu...maybe because she has hazel eyes like me, and perhaps she looks like one of my sisters' friends. Nice photo of a very pretty girl. Q: Is she as friendly as she looks?

I really like your pic of a small Coccinelidae! How's the DOF when using that 105mm with the close-up lens?

I really like that portrait as well, it's actually one of my favorites. And yes, she's very nice and friendly :)

Took this shot from a bridge in VT. Under the bridge there were a bunch of people jumping into the water from 15-20 foot rocks. Please Let me know what you think!

Haven't had a chance to get out and shoot anything new lately, so here's one of me from my "365 days" self-portrait Flickr project.

P.S. Freebooter, as always, fantastic!

Always amazed at your pictures. Personally, I like your "bug" shots. Perhaps it's just the macro aspect that I like. Anyway, showed a couple to my daughter and she said "ewwww". Oh well. Have you considered doing any macro shots of other things. Earlier in this thread I saw a macro of a HID headlight that I thought was terrific! Small objects or sometimes ordinary ones when they are shown in detail are fascinating. Please consider branching out in other areas. BTW, I collect quotes. Love your Henry Ford.....I added it to my list:D Cheers

Thanks ever so much!
Did you show your daughter the shy grasshopper?

re: branch out. Well, I've got some macro botanical shots in the mix lately, and when winter hits I anticipate experimenting with interior/studio shots. But really, I've always been an outdoorsman at heart.

Over the precipice

Experimenting with a film canister flash diffuser. I see now my sharpness issues on close focus were my problem not the equipment...

I was at Brands Hatch today watching some amateur racing and practising panning shots.

The attached is probably my favourite. Yes the focus is not perfect but I really like the composition.
