Hey,

Thought I'd join this thread again after a year or so hiatus :)

These recent prints of yours are great. The tones, color, everything. Really shows how great film is/can be.

Those 4x6 prints from a quick negative scan at a drug store just don't quite do film justice.

It might just be me, but I find it rude to shoot homeless people like this, without asking permission. ...]

I completley agree and wanted to say something like that. The photog should have approached him, talked to him, got to know his situation, and then asked if you could shoot his photo.

To Seenew and Redrabbit...

I did not approach this guy and talk to him or give him any money. No kittens were harmed in the making of this post.;)

Thanks! And yeah, the exposure latitude and dynamic range in color film is fantastic. Printing it yourself is so much fun, too.

...back to the b/w archives

I happened to read the first post on this thread, so guess it's okay to post an old shot. I took this photo during a 2 day Pacific Rim nations conference at Portland State University in 1996 while working as the photo editor at the Daily Vanguard. I managed to make my way to the podium where the President had just addressed the crowd and took this shot as he walked the fence line shaking hands with the crowd. Scanned from a workprint.

Autumn is already starting in Sweden...finally had a few hours of sun, so I was able to go out and capture some wonderful colors.

Nice photo Silverbird0000.

But one question, how good is your Nikkor 55-200mm lens for leaving backgrounds out-of-focus? Especially when taking portraits.

I ask because I want to get a Nikkor 18-200mm VR, but it isn't very good for this, and would like getting an extra lens which is good for this.

Anyone has any suggestion?

freedom

My friends and I were surfing today and this refugee raft drifted by... it was incredibly well built for styrofoam and tarps tied together on a welded steel frame. Even had a 5hp diesel engine (burnt up.) There were all sorts of ropes that the immigrants must have tied themselves to the raft with, as the seas were 10 feet plus the last few days. We know they made it ashore because the coast guard spray paints the rafts orange when they intervene - I hope they made it... it's been rough surf lately.

Anyways, my buds jumped in for a photo op, I was scrunching down in the shorepound trying to watch out for big breakers and getting salt all over the lens!

Thank you very much! Judging from the last few days I have had with the lens, it has a really nice bokeh. I have not tried any portraits, but I will and i'll let you know. Shots of other things have turn out really nice. I think it is a really great lens, and the VR is awesome. And to boot it's only $250.
