Oregon coast
more fall color...

Up here in the Oregon coastal range we don't get a lot of color in the fall since it's mainly alder and varieties of coniferous trees... but the native vine maple lives in the deep woods, and rewards us with it's lovely contrast to the deep greens of the forest...

Welcome back!

Here's mine for the day. Not strictly photography I know, and I apologise for that. However, I'm quite happy with how my little planet turned out, so please forgive me this time :)

That's very cool! How did you go about doing that?

you produced the colouring with Pol-Filter, right? Or is it clouds that produce moire? anyway, nice effect.

No filters. It's a prismatic effect produced by ice crystals in high clouds. They are noticeable only if you look close to the sun on certain days. Most people don't look up and so miss effects such as these.

I got the idea from Martin C. It's going in a collage on my wall. It's my eye very photoshopped! Thanks to Martin C for the great idea!

1st picture taken with camera set to monochrome

always used to use photoshop to remove colour, but pretty pleased with the results from the 400d when set to monochrome. Mind you, helps when the subject is my cute little Labrador Oscar.

Oregon coast
more from the b/w film archives...

This shot of Willamette Falls, Oregon City, OR was taken a few years ago. It shows tribe members from, I believe, the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs, salmon fishing by dip-netting just below the falls. The tribe used their treaty rights with the U.S. government to fish for the first time in years at this particular location, since the salmon runs were on the decline that year in the Columbia River, and they had not harvested what they needed that year.

No monkey biz. These kinds of ice clouds are fairly common.

That's pretty cool.

What a cool little world...;)

That's very cool! How did you go about doing that?

my brain is hurting looking at it :) fantastic picture and awesome job in photoshop.

Thanks guys. It's not an original idea, and it's surprisingly easy to do. Get yourself a 360* panorama. Resize it so it's a 1x1 ratio. It'll look deformed, but that's good. Rotate it 180*. Apply the polar co-ordinates filter (under distort) and select... rectangular to polar I believe. Voila, that's it.
