I love it, OutThere! What was the cat lying on and in front of since only a slight overexposure were able to white out everything in the background?

Thanks! :)

It was my light grey porch steps and the white porch door, so popping the exposure just a little blew them out entirely.

Perhaps the finest pet photograph I've ever seen. Usually people post up pictures of their dogs or cats they are very uninspired and ... well boring. But this one is a good photo.

^^That is one satisfied looking woman. ;)

Here's one that didn't end up sharp at all, but I like the idea. It wasn't sharp because I had to be very quick to get this photo. The opportunity only lasted for like 4 seconds, and I was in manual mode and couldn't change settings (this night market had variable lighting) quickly, so once i set everything, I quickly raised my camera and just got a shot off before my friend finished with her earrings. Too bad I forgot to adjust the aperture to like f8 rather than at f/2.8 to get greater depth of field.

Oh, and focusing on a mirror was slow as hell using my Sigma. Maybe I should have focused on the mirror frame instead.

No. Right now the mirror looks perfectly focused and the other things around it are focused... but not as clear. If you have focused on the frame it wouldnt have the same effect (I think  )

Yeah - the focal point of a reflected image is the same distance behind the mirror as the subject is in front of it. I think it's a great capture, Abstract - the focus is right, though I agree it could possibly be a bit sharper. But the timing (pose. composition etc.) is very good.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the timing and compositon (luck, I swear), I'd have chucked this photo long ago. :p :D

My Sigma 24-70 mm hunts a lot. I actually thought I would miss the shot because it was too busy trying to focus.

I didn't know that. I always thought it wouldn't be able to focus because the camera used IR for autofocus, and that IR didn't reflect off the mirror like the light would. Or maybe it does reflect from mirrors, much like light, and so it can judge distance from a mirror. If it does, I didn't know that, which is why I said I wished I had focused on the side of the frame so that my lens focused easier.

PS: I just used iPhoto and cranked the sharpness to full. Much better. :D

Eurasian Robin.
A good bit different from the robin found in America, but a robin nonetheless.

Wow, that's incredible.

When and where was the photo taken? (hint hint)

Surfer's Paradise, July 30th 2006. It was taken with my little point and shoot, which doesn't do so well at highest sensitivity (ISO 400).

My colleague wanted to know how you got such a short depth of field in that picture.

I went to a jai-alai match in Biarritz a few weeks ago, and I was trying here to capture some sense of just how fast-paced it is. Pretty tough with my camera equipment, but I think this is the best of that group.

A friend's daughter swimming in Laxsjöen, Sweden, last week. I decreased saturation, increased sharpness and increased contrast in iPhoto. On my screen in iPhoto, it looks really impressionistic. I can't seem to make it big enough here to really give you an impression of that.

Thank you. :) Actually, it was a really warm evening, it's been unseasonably warm over here. She and her brother were amazing subjects. Since I've been away for a while, I'll allow myself to break the rules and post one more from that evening.
