Agreed!!

Are they really moths, not fireflies? I suppose the light is being reflected off the white wings?
Yeah, I suppose that's the back side of a flood light in the bottom of the picture?

I bow to you, seenew, you're the master. :D

I like the curvy shapes that the moth's wings in the very center the most. It's kind of like those long exposure pictures of car headlights, but more interesting because of the shapes.

Yep, it's just moths. They were really bright because the spotlight was huge.
It smelled really bad, too, like burnt hamburgers. You could guess why. :X

Thanks, Annk, gauchogolfer, and gekko513. :)

Great shot. Lovely colours, must be a great cottage. How big is the lake? Almost looks like a Corona ad. What kind of brew is that?

I can't remember exactly, it was either Labatt Honey or just Coors Light... not my favorites but I'll take what's available!

As for the Corona ad, oddly enough I tried taking a picture like that at night but it didn't turn out at all.. it was pretty awful looking as a matter of fact... thanks for the comments though!

corona ad was the first thing i thought. damn marketing. but a great shot. how many beers did you have before you could spare one for the picture. i mean it's still full.....

Thanks! Didn't have to spare any beers for the shot, shortly after taking the pictures the beer was drank and enjoyed... haha

1. Chip, that's really cool, kind of surreal.
2. How well would a Hoya IR filter work on my 350D? (would I even be able to get one for that camera?)
3. Is there something special that makes a fisheye lens a fisheye? Or is it anything that's down that low? (10-15mm?)

Thanks...that is why I posted this particular image from my D5oIR tests.

Pretty much the same way ,but you would not be able to handhold it.

The IR filters for non-converted cameras are availble. But they can be expensive. And hot spot issues can be a problem.

A fish-eye lens is one that can show 180 degrees. They can be full frame or they can be circular.

Hot spot issues?
So would a 10mm lens be fisheye, even if it's not labeled as such? Or does focal length not really have to do with whether or not a lens is a fisheye? Just wanted to know, 'cause I'm looking at the Canon EF-S 10-20mm.

You need to look at this thread:

Looking at 35mm formats it is possible to have a 16mm fish-eye lens with distortion and a 14mm without. In the end it is all about how the lens is designed.

A fisheye has nothing to do with the focal length. A Sigma 10-20 mm lens isn't a fisheye, but a Nikon 10.5 mm fisheye lens is a fisheye. It's just the way it's designed, and the Sigma isn't designed to capture light from 180º.

And although I'm late, I just wanted to say that the moth photo was very cool. :)

And I realize that all the photos I've posted recently are from the same week. :p I just haven't had much time to take photos.

Taken at a dock on the night of July 29, 2006.

To those who are wondering about the car....

Its a side mounted exhaust that some race cars use, if i remember correctly its for one of two reasons, 1 to not burn up the car behind and two it shortens the exhaust pipe lenghth which chnages compression ratio's

Could be wront though

I love to run up the local mountains, especially when the weather turns interesting. This is about 75% of the way to the top of the highest peak, on a gentle, warm, rain-soaked afternoon. On days like this, I have the trails to myself, and it's entrancing to move rhythmically through the fog for three hours. I used about 26 shots and "AutoPano" software to join them.

That's really cool!
Is AutoPano for Mac, or is there some other free pano-assembling software for Tiger?
