You can buy cases of bourbon and scotch but beer that is 5% by volume, that's bad for you. I ****ing hate lawmakers that think they know what's best for me. **** them. So that's lost revenue and sales for Virginia because of dumb ass lawmakers.
Hm. I don't want to derail the thread, but here are ways to (theoretically) discourage the purchase of high alcohol beers (while adding to the state's tax take) and that is to slap extra duty on them; that way, everyone is satisfied - the government - or state - gets its take, the health police are happy that their concerns have been heeded to the extent that this product is made less accessible, the public can still buy what they want......
However, I would be curious to learn whether the desire to commercially protect (or favour or support) certain products (perhaps spirits), lingering shades of Prohibition and Puritanism, or - genuine health concerns - were what gave rise to this (underwhelming) piece of legislation.
Is it state wide, or does it merely apply to certain counties within a state? Remind me never to visit Virginia, even if I do manage to visit the US someday. In nay case, I must say that I rather like robust beers.
Well, enjoy your haul.
