how does it drive? ever drive a benz? if so, any comparisons?

I've never drove a benz (except a really old benz that was the size of a tank), but this car is really fun to drive. Compared to all the Japanese cars I've had and driven in the past, Bimmers make you feel like you're one with the road. The handling is real solid.

I'm just wondering because I noticed the other day that lots of the people that own large vehicles don't use them for their intended use.

What exactly happened "the other day"? Did someone have a large vehicle that they were using as a CPR practice doll? Or perhaps for chopping serrano peppers? Maybe they were using the vehicle to 3-hole punch a report or spread Grey Poupon on some dark pumpernickel with no seeds?

I'm guessing that someone was driving the vehicle, which is its intended use.

I drive a vehicle many would consider large (Ford Expedition), what exactly is its intended use? Because when I bought it, my intention was to drive it.

Lol. My money's on the CPR dummy.

This truck can also tow 9,000 pounds, so it comes in quite handy whenever we move and we can hook up a large trailer or at the very least tow my wife's car.

Do you move house often? I mean, why not hire a removal van for a week and do it that way rather than putting up with terrible MPG every journey?

Besides it's use as a pickup, the thing is huge and it's the only vehicle I've owned that I truly fit comfortably in. (I'm 6'4" 290 lbs).

You should try the new Smart Fortwo. Brian Cooley from CNet.com is very tall and he said he fits comfortably in it.

That is very true. You also need to take into consideration that many people, who can afford to use 2-3 times the gas of an economy car, choose to do so because these big vehicles are much safer than most tiny cars in a collision.

Well that's debatable. Your car is much more likely to roll over, for example and also, if there were less people driving around in giant vehicles then there would be less accidents where a small car is badly damaged.

1. I move often enough, as I'm still in college. As far as the moving van goes, are you Kidding?? Have you ever used one? This summer we moved across the country and I couldn't find a trailer big enough for ALL our stuff/storage unit, etc, so I rented a 24' truck. It was a diesel, and it STILL only got 7 mpg. SEVEN. And diesel was averaging $4.70/gallon. On the freeway, even pulling a decent sized trailer, my Titan gets 12-13 mpg. 16-19 unloaded.

2. No thanks. I have a truck.

3. Well, it might be debatable, but not with you.

Have a good night.

Actually, it's more like 12 mpg, haha. (City). But even before the lift and the heavy 35" tires it only got 13 mpg. You don't buy a truck for the mileage.

So you like to destroy the environment so you can occasionally haul something.

Thank you! Well said. Having grown up on a dairy farm in Idaho, I can attest to the truthfulness of that statement.

While I don't tow or haul stuff every day, it still comes in handy more than you would think. Last week I was able to help a friend haul a new bed he'd just bought. The week before that I helped some people from my church move some stuff. Recently my wife bought a desk (already assembled) and it was ridiculously easy to load it up in the back of the truck and take it home. This truck can also tow 9,000 pounds, so it comes in quite handy whenever we move and we can hook up a large trailer or at the very least tow my wife's car.

Besides it's use as a pickup, the thing is huge and it's the only vehicle I've owned that I truly fit comfortably in. (I'm 6'4" 290 lbs). In addition to that, this thing can MOVE. It's no 370z or BMW M3, but for a truck she's quick, and a blast to drive.

I'm also 6'4" and both my GTR and eventual Jetta TDI have plenty of room and the TDI gets up to 41MPG officially with some getting higher MPGs and how often are you towing 9000lbs.

Thank you! I do take very good care of it, less the occasional mud slingin'. :D It's a 2004 model, and most people think it's only a year or two old.

That is very true. You also need to take into consideration that many people, who can afford to use 2-3 times the gas of an economy car, choose to do so because these big vehicles are much safer than most tiny cars in a collision.

That's exactly the analogy that I was going to use. I mean sure, I could get along without quite this much truck but like many of you have probably dreamed of owning some luxury car, I always wanted to own a big lifted truck, and I finally do. I've paid it off completely on my own, and I plan to drive it for years to come.

The Jetta ranked as good in both front and side impact collisions. Your Titan ranked as good in front impact collisions and poor on side impacts w/o airbags.

Um, yes. I love that this has turned into a gas mileage discussion. The thread is about posting pics of your vehicle. I did. Suck it.

Good for you. And, to answer your question, almost never. OH DAMN, I BETTER GO SELL MY TRUCK BECAUSE I DON'T TOW/HAUL STUFF EVERY DAY.

The Jetta ranked as good in both front and side impact collisions. Your Titan ranked as good in front impact collisions and poor on side impacts w/o airbags....

I just think it's funny that you actually took the time to look that up. Enjoy your Jetta. I wouldn't mind owning a TDI someday. For now, I'm just loving the hell out of my truck. I'd be an idiot to sell it, as it's paid off and is only costing me the price of insurance and gas. I barely ever drive 1,000 miles/month. I'm not going to worry about gas unless it gets much over $5/gallon, at which point I'll buy a beater for $2K and keep my kickass truck.

You should try the new Smart Fortwo. Brian Cooley from CNet.com is very tall and he said he fits comfortably in it.

This is like saying, "Buy Nike shoes because so-and-so has big feet and he says they're comfortable." Everyone is different. I'm only 6'-3" and I have NEVER, since reaching adulthood, sat in a car where my head doesn't rub the headliner inside. NEVER. The ONLY passenger vehicles I can ride in without rubbing my head on the ceiling are (1) full-size trucks, (2) vans, or (3) anything with the seat laying down.

You can name all kinds of cars you want, my head hits the ceiling in Crown Victorias, Chrysler 300's, Impalas, and several other big cars - I know because these are common taxis and I ride in them frequently when I travel out of town for business. Some minivans are taller inside, but I didn't want a minivan, I wanted a truck. And I didn't want a bed, so I bought an SUV.

If this were a thread on which computer to buy, it wouldn't be near this much of a holy war. If you buy the vehicle you like and can afford, you'll be fine. I like my truck - if you like something different, that's fine. Some people really could stand to weigh in once with their opinion and let it go.

Well that's debatable. Your car is much more likely to roll over, for example and also, if there were less people driving around in giant vehicles then there would be less accidents where a small car is badly damaged.

Sounds to me like you're advocating that everyone should drive the same size vehicle. Maybe we should all drive the same color vehicle as well, no? By the same manufacturer? We have different choices available to us because people like, need, or want different things. Same with clothes, houses, computers, music - people have different tastes.

I'm just wondering what you decision process was when you were buying the vehicle.

I imagine something like this:

"Hey I like that car!" Cha-ching!

He bought the car he wanted, get over it dude, I bet he bought it second hand. Buying a car second hand does far less damage than buying a new Jetta does to the environment.

I'm not so much a Nissan fan but I really do like your truck!

and who cares what others say, it's your money. Spend it however you want.

Very nice Titan, looks good. Those real beadlocks on them?

How do you like those tires? My friend has them on his 07 Wrangler and they make the vehicle sound like a small airplane taking off. Haha

And to the hater: Some of us involve ourselves in hobbies that utilize our vehicles. Brax obviously goes offroading in his, I enjoy offroading in my Jeep. It allows me to get out into nature, the go down the "road less traveled" and go to places that 90% of the population will never see. I have no issue getting to the store when we have a foot of snow on the ground, I know I'll win if I get in an accident with most cars and will fare decent with other SUVs. Vehicles are bought depending on what you intend to do with them, as said above. Obviously, we all plan to drive our vehicles, but some do more.

Hah. I thought, "Gee, if I buy this truck I might be able to piss off some V-dub owner on a computer forum! SOLD!!"

Go take a shower, get some granola, drive that lil' Jetta to the nearest tree-hugger convention (or better yet, ride a bicycle), and have a nice time.

Thank you, sir. I did, in fact, buy it 2nd hand. Saved several thousand bucks and she only had 12K miles on 'er. Only has 34K now, and it's 5 yrs old.

Thanks! I wasn't much of a Nissan fan either. I test drove my top 3 truck choices, and completely fell in love with the Titan. Now I'm a big fan. I could buy only Nissan/Infiniti vehicles and be totally happy. Unfortunately, The Titan will be an endangered animal after next year...
Very nice Titan, looks good. Those real beadlocks on them?

Thank you. Nope, not real beadlocks. Those aren't street-legal and require far too much maintenance for my situation. Mine are the ProComp 8128's. I got them used as well at a really good price.

How do you like those tires? My friend has them on his 07 Wrangler and they make the vehicle sound like a small airplane taking off. Haha

Lol. I LOVE the tires. They sound Exactly like a small airplane flying overhead, but I actually kind of like it. If I had to commute for a hours at a time I probably wouldn't like it so much, but it suits my situation perfectly. We got some crazy snow about a week after the tires were on and they handled it like a dream. Haven't had the time to go offroad much, but I'm sure they'll do amazing!

i know my next vehicle will be a truck.....

i have ran into too many situations where a truck has been a lifesaver

cars cant do jack ****.

buy a table/bookshelf/any larger item at say home depot or even something at a yard sale? good luck loading that into a car
need to haul stuff to the dump? good luck with a car
need to move things to storage? once again, have fun
need to lay down mulch or some other landscaping work?
need to tow a trailer?
need to pull friends cars out of snowbanks?
need to post signs?
need to move some bikes?
need a place to sleep? yes i have done that with a topper
going skiing with alot of friends and need a vehicle to place equipment?
going hunting/fishing? where you put the equipment, animals?

the list is endless why a truck is so much more useful than a car

these situations come up way to often that it makes a truck more than worthwhile

Yeah, I blame Nissan's lack of advertising. They advertise the Altima & it does great. Toyota advertised the crap out of the new Tundra and it's done pretty well too. I think over the past 5 yrs I've seen 2 Titan commercials. I can't watch TV without seeing iPhone commercials at every single break...

At least the merger with the Dodge Ram seems to be off the table.

It's a problem with public perception. Most people seem to think the Nissan Titan is way expensive compared to the leading domestics. Not so, when you compare similarly equipped models. Exactly like apple vs PC. You can build a barebones Ford (pc) for much cheaper than the average Titan, but when similar models are compared the Titan is cheaper. I was kicking myself soon after buying my used '04, when I could have paid just an extra 1-2k and gotten a brand new '06 with the incentives they had going on at the time. Also, Consumer Reports hates the Titan, mainly because of the brake problems and a few rear differential failures on the early models. I have an '04 model and haven't had any problems besides the brakes, and those were replaced for free along with free rotors at 18K miles.
Rant ended...lol.

To save my post, I'll throw up a pic of my wife's car. This should make the truck haters a little less hostile maybe?

Heres my current vehicle, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. Got it for a great price a couple years ago. Always been into jeeps, I sell Jeep parts and such on the side for extra money, so I know them inside and out and can easily fix them. Thinking of a 2" lift and some larger tires, but going back to a masters program so will have to put that on hold.

Great car, easy to work on, very dependable.
