Thanks guys.

No idea how much it has set me back, just pretty consistently upgraded over the past few years. Most I've overclocked is just under 3.2, but that ran too hot for my liking.

The 4870 is a good card, but it runs far too hot and loud (As is the ATi way) :(

Edit: Very similar spec machine would cost around $2750AUD.

Well, I've just spent almost the entire night working on my rig and have nothing to show for it... the problem was, I couldn't get OS X to work on my 150GB Raptor, so I tried to install it to the RAID ports, the DVD drive ports, etc etc with all sorts of different BIOS settings.

Bleargh.

Also, my dad complained my room was getting too hot, so I downclocked her from 3.6GHz to 2.4GHz.

So bright, my eyes, they burn!;)

I just hope I don't drool on my components too much and short anything out! Big problem is had, I am trying to source chipset blocks and as far as I can tell: there are NONE for the Bloodrage, and the stock doesn't have tapped fitting holes, it just has attached barbs, blegh.

@November: Nice rig, but Noctuas went out of popularity months ago:p
Can tell those Brown/Cream fans anywhere though.

How cool does your entire thing run? I mean, it can't be THAT cool seeing as how all of your fans are blocked by your huge Heatsink/Fan thing.

Plus you overclocked it!

I left my camera at work so this is just a general shot of the system. When I bring my camera home I can take interior shots. I'm also going to be upgrading soon.

PJPC.JPG

Case: Lian-Li PC-V350B (it's not that shiny IRL)
Mobo: Abit AN-M2HD (MicroATX)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
RAM: 2GB PC2-6400 RAM (going to upgrade to 8GB soon)
GPU: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB
OS: Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackelope" (going to reload with 64-bit ver. with 8GB upgrade)
VMWare Server 2.01: XP Home 32-bit

I used VMWare Converter to convert my previous XP installation into a virtual machine that i'm now running on top of Ubuntu. I'm slowly weening myself off of PC gaming, but keeping the XP install around for old games that I still love, at least until I get things sorted out with DosBox and Wine.

That's almost completely wrong. :D

It prolly idles in the 20s Celsius. I have mine overclocked way higher on a worse heatsink and it idles around 28 at 9x400MHz.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?:eek::eek::eek::eek:

28?. Wow, if I just leave my computer not in sleep mode, most it goes to is about 39. When all I'm doing is iTunes and Firefox, it goes to about 42-43.
I'm running my Core2Duo stock. Its a E4500 at 2.2Ghz (Not overclocked). My case is a Xion Solaris.

(All those temps are my processor ones I think, they're the highest that SpeedFan detects)

EDIT: SpeedFan right now says 48 for Temp1, -2 for Temp2, 58 for Temp3, 63 for Temp4, 65 for Temp5.

Those are all in Celcius. Right now, I'm downloading like 10 things off Torrents, iTunes, and Firefox. 10Minutes ago, I was doing all that and watching Transporter with WMP. (Yes iTunes was open, it just was paused)

Check to see how well mounted your HSF is. Is it wobbly? If so, take it off and reseat it. If not, buy a new one, because the stock Intel heatsinks are notorious for not performing well.

I don't know. I put a little more than normal, and then used a Q-Tip to spread it, so I guess it was fine since some went onto the Q-Tip.
It covered the whole processor, so yeah.

Q-tip can introduce material into the paste and generally the best method for applying paste is to place a single droplet just a bit smaller than a pea then place the heatsink on firmly and straight down. Once it's down just hold it steady for a few seconds then start clipping it in. This helps make sure there is no air/etc in the paste. Netted me an OCed Q6600 running at ~35C on a Scythe Infinity, which is a far cry from an OCZ Vendetta.

Grr, I want my parts! But for anyone interested, once they get here I am going to be putting up a build log on XS.

I'll go check that out fo sho, but I hate the people on XS. HATE THEM. They are, with a few exceptions, complete jerks.

I have put everything into a smaller case and added *gasp* cold cathodes onto my MONITOR.

Observe.

I plan to go i7 soon.
