I went on Craigslist, to see how much my computer (or equivalent to) was selling for. I saw some 2.1Ghz Core2Duo, 150GB IDE hard drive, 2GB RAM, and 1x DVD burner, in a standard case go for about 500.

After that- Me trying to convince my parents to let me sell my 2.2Ghz, 160GB(SATA), 256mb Graphics card, 2x DVD Burner at 22x, 4GB RAM for close to 550$, and then build a Quad-Core. This is what I got so far-
Also, the prices are only on Newegg, This is just for parts, I know I can find better deals than these at MicroCenter or Frys or various other places.

Processor-(Quad Core 2.33Ghz)

Case-(RAIDMAX SAGITTA 2)

Power Supply-(OCZ ModxStream Power supply)

Motherboard-(GIGABYTE GA-P31-ES3G)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128356

RAM- You can get any 4GB RAM for around 30$

Hard Drive- There's a lot of good deals for less than 50$ for 500GB/600GB

Video Card-GIGABYTE GV-R465OC-1G1 Radeon 4650 (1GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125253

In total- Less than 500$. Will all of my parts work with each other?

EDIT: Forgot DVD burners
Which is better

Sounds pretty good (Case is fugly IMHO.... and not liking the Q8xxx series, but you don't OC) but there's no way you'll be able to sell it for that much.

Ask maybe $300, if that.

Yeah, that case isn't good. I'm hating it already.

Instead of that- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144102

And what's wrong with Q8 series?

How about this one? I bought it for someone's build and it's a very, very nice, well-built case.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137

The Q8 series are technically fine, it's just that I don't like them because they have way too little cache. 4MB is not enough for a quad. They don't overclock very well either.

If you're not going to be doing very many multithreaded things on the computer, I would go for this instead:

Higher clock speed will give you better performance on MOST software.

I don't think so. The CM690 has sooo many places you can put fans -- two on the side, two on the top, one on the bottom, one on the back, and one on the front. You will not find a better case. :D

Niiiiiccceeee.... so what parts are you buying for your 1366 conversion? I need to plan mine out.

Pictures of my PC running Mac OS X 10.5.6, Windows Vista, Windows 7 beta, and Ubuntu 8.10. Has a removable HDD tray in the front where I swap in and out HDDs.

Well the board is the Bloodrage featured a page or so back and the ram is the Corsair Dominator GT stuff. Pricey but it fits to the red on black theme and is high performance. Videocard is rolling to the tune of a 4870X2, under water with a Heatkiller Rev3.0. I don't even have a working DVD drive lol, and my hdd is just a WD(I think) 500Gb. I am considering an Intel X-25M during the summer, funds permitting.

I do not understand why I can get a quad core with 4 GB RAM and 1 TB HD for $600 when Apple wants $600 for a dual core with a 120 GB HD and 1 GB RAM

well... that's the apple tax for ya

Anyways, here's my PC I built in September 2008:

Motherboard: ASUS Rampage Formula II X48
CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 @ 4.0 GHz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 4870X2
Memory: 4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 @ 1200
HDDs: WD Raptor X 150GB + Seagate 7200.11 1TB + Seagate 7200.10 500GB
Case: Cooler Master Stacker 830SE
PSU: Corsair 1000HX 1000W PSU

I also water cooled it so here are the two loops I made:

Loop One (Green): Swiftech MicroRes -> Laing DDC 3.2 Pump w/ XSPC Acrylic Top -> Swiftech MCR-220QP Radiator -> D-Tek FuZion v2 CPU block

Loop Two (Blue): Laing DDC 3.2 Pump w/ XSPC Reservoir Top -> Thermochill PA120.3 Radiator -> EK NB S-Max Acetal Northbridge Block -> EK Full Cover 4870X2 Copper Block

All of this with a Dell 3007WFP-HC 30" monitor w/ a Dell 2007FP 20" in portrait mode next to it... 3760 x 1600 glory!

What's the difference with a mATX and a ATX motherboard? (Other than size).

Like, is there a reason that mATX is so much cheaper?

Also, Nice computer there chewietobbacca!!

The primary difference is size (fewer expansion slots usually, fewer sata slots, etc.) and chipset (some chipsets are meant for ATX only, though it can change around). That and mATX is usually geared towards being more budget oriented

Honestly though, 90% of users could use mATX and wouldn't see a bit of difference though

Oh and thanks!
