I dont know why anybody is surprised about the cost. People put too much stock in the "rumors" of the past couple of weeks. Had there been no rumors, then nobody would have been surprised that the XS cost the same as the X and the XS Max cost $100 more, just like the Plus has always cost $100 more than the standard.

They should have went $100 higher on each model. People will pay it no matter what so I don't blame Apple for maximizing profit on each model.
Yeah, there are some die hard fans that will buy no matter what, but I've seen plenty that are not due to these prices. I can afford to buy, and was looking forward to upgrading. I'm even on the upgrade plan, but with the non existent spec bumps and the increase in price, I'm not upgrading this year and I'm sure there's a lot of people who were going to upgrade but changed their mind.

LOL...

Say what you willl.... there has never been a misstep from Apple when it comes to pricing...

I skipped the X due to it being a bit small for me. I have been using Plus version for years. I have the 8 Plus and to-date consider it the best iPhone ever made.

WTS, based on the leaks I was certain when the larger X was available I would walk into Apple and pony up. I was going to try and wait until January so I didn’t have to pre-pay my Apple Upgrade plan.

FF to today and the XS Max pricing.
DAYUM.

I don’t need 512GB.. but after tax the 256 XSM will be over $1,300. My wife and I make very good $. We don’t have a lot of debt. Even with being able to afford such things as this (my wife got the X as soon as it was launched), I cannot get my head around dropping over $1,300 on a phone.

I know it’a a computer. I use it for everything including photo editing with Lightroom and other apps. I use the $#&@ out of it. Even so, this is a price point that may be beyond what I can justify as reasonable.

I know.. priorities. I just can’t imagine if someone like myself (not trying to be an ass here) with our financial position... thinks this is too expensive.. who is the XSM for?

We can afford it. I may end up getting it.. but as of today my 8+ is looking better than it did yesterday.

The new camera system alone is worth it.

I'm upgrading for sure.

The 8 Plus has a dual camera system already. And I’ll be honest, I mostly don’t use portrait mode.

The screen looks beautiful and the cameras look great but these prices are through the roof.

I wonder if the price increases are Apple's way of compensating for the fact that people upgrade less often as the hardware can last longer without slowing down.

I foresee the 256 GB iPhone Xs Max as still viable and able to run the latest iOS even four years from now. It will be missing a 120Hz display and 5G by that time, though.

65GB is too big for a starting phone -- ha ha I'll bet I'm the only one who feels that way.

The prices are fine and going to get higher as tariffs increase.

I'm keeping my X. I'm disappointed Apple didn't release 3 new phones - Premium, Mid-tier, and budget (I know Apple and budget shouldn't be used in the same sentence. LOL). I was really expecting Apple to keep the X and upgraded it. But Apple decided against it. :(

The strategic uptick in Apple’s pricing happened last year.

By releasing 8/8+ and X all at once, Apple was able to stealthily price the X much higher ($300) than a normal yearly upgrade. Now a year later the XS with its higher price carries on as the new base model and XR which takes over the base price is now regarded as the “budget” model.

Base model price of each new iPhone (excluding 5c, SE):
  • iPhone (4GB): $499
  • iPhone 3G (8GB): $599
  • iPhone 3GS (16GB): $599
  • iPhone 4 (16GB): $599
  • iPhone 4S (16GB): $649
  • iPhone 5 (16GB): $649
  • iPhone 5s (16GB): $649
  • iPhone 6 (16GB): $649
  • iPhone 6 Plus (16GB): $749
  • iPhone 6s (16GB): $649
  • iPhone 6s Plus (16GB): $749
  • iPhone 7 (32GB): $649
  • iPhone 7 Plus (32GB): $769
  • iPhone 8 (64GB): $699
  • iPhone 8 Plus (64GB): $799
  • iPhone X (64GB): $999
  • iPhone XR (64GB): $749
  • iPhone XS (64GB): $1,099
  • iPhone XS Max (64GB): $1,349

Flagship price of each new model:
  • iPhone (8GB): $599
  • iPhone 3G (16GB): $699

Ridiculous high prices!! I was hoping the XR would be at least $200-$300 cheaper than that. It's CDN$1090 for the 256GB model here in Canada!

Apple is really taking advantage of their customers on these new models, considering they only have incremental upgrades from the X. I mean, they already have the molds and they're still charging for them!

It's time we spoke with our wallets (or without for that matter).

Just paid off my X. Will sell my X these prices are awful plain and simple. To the ones rationalizing and playing tic tac as in trying to convince themselves it’s a good dealgood luck. Trying to say it’s the norm comparing to Samsung who gives you expanded memory on a 128gb ($999)which you don’t mention

The death of contracts didn't help anyone but the carriers. We all pay the same or more as we did before, but now we have less flexibility. Carriers don't care how much the phones cost anymore because they aren't paying for the phones anymore. The carriers before were the customers, they had a ton of buying power with Apple and could force major downward pressure on price.

How strange that once contracts died, iPhones suddenly jumped in price from $499 all the way up to $750 in just a few generations for the base model, and up from there. Samsung users have experienced the same skyrocketing pricing as well.
I think the carriers had zero buying power when it came to Apple. Supply and demand. Apple will have offered them their small % off and that would be that.

Xr is a great value. $50 less than an 8 Plus. Anybody complaining about pricing should just buy that.

I think it’s better for Apple’s bottom line that they stuck with the $999 pricing for the iPhone X since apparently it was selling well. Lowering the price of the flagship model might have indicated to the market that it wasn’t doing as well as expected.

$999 is the new normal for a flagship iPhone.

Nvidia also destroyed my wallet this year with their RTX 2080 Ti pricing because of no competition from AMD. Apple is doing the same.

I think you’re right. Apple brag about record profits but the fact of the matter is they are noticing the drop in demand like anybody else. The whole market is noticing a drop in upgrades and it’s due to phones being good enough to last longer than the average contract length. People are simply keeping their phones longer.

This pricing is insane. On the IUP I currently pay $45 per month for a 256 GB 8 Plus. If I wanted a 256 GB Xs Max, I’m looking at over $60 per month! Even the 64 GB is $54 per month. I’m going to have to mull this one over. I’m not sure it’s worth the upgrade.

In that case upgrade to a Xr.

I don't really see that happening sadly. People already voted that the X was not too expensive.
