Embarrassing prices really

What happened to less this year?

Note 9 cost £900 odd? Makes their pricing look better

The Xr is the biggest choker I can see. To think people were actually referring to it as the ‘budget iPhone’ up until now. £749!!

I must admit I thought the XS would be £899 starting but hey. I think £1.5k for the Max with top storage is an absolute joke though. I’ve got a feeling the iPhone 7 and 8 will be outselling these newer models in Britain again this year.

I agree. My phone I connect it and dump it in the center console. Get home, put it on the countertop and never look at it again until it's time for bed. Then again I dont have any type of Social Media. Those who use Social Media every minute get the most benefit out of these type of phones.

Yes these devices really are social media devices. When I got rid of my social media accounts earlier this year I also realized I don't need my phone much, and downgraded to an SE. It's proven to be a great decision for me personally, but I'm left without an upgrade path with Apple. I hope they maintain the SE for some time to come.

I’m not on social media either but my job is closely related to technology plus I like the ability to be able to do almost everything required for my job from the phone.

And I generally love the iPhone camera.

I agree that more will rent, but it is almost splitting hairs at this point for those still looking to upgrade annually. You can pay the $1,550 after tax and then try and sell for, say, $900 a year later for a $650 loss or you could pay $775 by the end of 12 months, trade it in, and be out that $775. Either way, if you upgrade annually, this will cost you like nothing ever before.

If you are already on the Next plan you don't notice much of any change. I have an S8+ now and a couple weeks ago I looked at trading it in for the Note 9 after having it one year. Practically the same bill if you are paying month to month on the phone in addition to data plan.

Actually for my usage the phone has eliminated the need to carry a computer, a camera and a phone with me. It's nice to have all of those in 1 device. Plus I have access to my banking wherever I am. So for me it's a win.

Good for you. You don't have to justify your decision to me. It's your money.

Well im out! Really wanted the Max. It’s only a £100 more than I was willing to pay but at this point it’s principle. A £1,000 was hard to swallow and even harder to justify. Thanks Apple.

This is kind of how I’m feeling.

I was fully prepared to pay $999 for the Max. I don’t know about it now. Maybe I will, maybe not.

People are going to say, “it’s only $100 more” but that’s just the thing. It’s always “only $100 more”. The first plus model came out at $749, now we’re looking at $1,099. That’s nearly a 50% increase in just four years. Where’s the ceiling? Are we going to be paying $1500 for the 2020 Max version?

was all but sold on the Max, but $1100 is kind of insane.... the Xr is a MUCH better value at $350 less. All it's lacking is the OLED screen and the second camera (and obviously, 0.4 inches of diagonal screen space).

I wasn't even considering the Xr, but it seems like this year's winner.

Blame the 0% 24+ month financing terms from the carriers. They make the price of the phone invisible to most consumers. It's all about how much down and how much a month.

$50 a month for an Xs is only $20 more a month than the iPhone 7 they had, so it's okay for folks who make payments on their phone.

The car companies figured this out decades ago. They can raise prices all the time as long as they provide a long enough financing term. Eventually it won't be uncommon to finance a cell phone for 3 or 4 years, unless there is a correction in the marketplace.

I hope that these prices bite Apple so hard they are forced to release a new lower cost model early next year. I'm sure that won't happen though.

There never was going to be a price cut. Put simply, Apple raises iPhone prices, they don’t cut them

You’re 100% correct. I was so pleased to see two year contracts die, but my heart sank when the EIP Plans showed up. We went from zero price transparency to just a tad of transparency, but still not enough for the average smartphone purchaser to notice or even care that prices are skyrocketing out of control. It sucks for those of us who pay cash. :(

The death of contracts didn't help anyone but the carriers. We all pay the same or more as we did before, but now we have less flexibility. Carriers don't care how much the phones cost anymore because they aren't paying for the phones anymore. The carriers before were the customers, they had a ton of buying power with Apple and could force major downward pressure on price.

How strange that once contracts died, iPhones suddenly jumped in price from $499 all the way up to $750 in just a few generations for the base model, and up from there. Samsung users have experienced the same skyrocketing pricing as well.

The prices are brutal but at least Iphones resell well. I was hoping for $1100 for the 256 IPhone Xs Max(still worst name).

My 7 will do another year

im considering the same thing, or maybe "upgrade" to a surplus stock iPhone 10 via Verizon. with these new prices, Apple can GTFO.

I just had a prostate biopsy done for the cost of a Xs Max 512 GB. lol

I think I would rather have a prostate biopsy than pay these prices.
